I knew a young lady in high school that had a joint account with her sole parent, her step-father. About a month after she turned 18 their house burned down while they were visiting family in the nearest metro area; With their dogs of course. (I happened to know that their nearest family was half way across the country so that struck me as odd.) A couple of years later I learned that they had rented a storage unit about a month before the fire. That was shortly after I learned that her step-dad no longer referred to her as his daughter but rather ... his wife.

I didn't get the full details but he retained custody of her because her mother relinquished custody because her Mom blamed her for the divorce. He was a very strange person & in retrospect I think something was going on between them LONG before she turned 18. She went on a date to meet a guy's family & was given 2 hours to get in, eat dinner & then leave. When she was 10 mins late leaving the house he apparently showed up at the door almost in tears & before the guy could invite him in her step-dad said that he was sick & for her to just come home in the morning. He did come back & picked her up like 10 mins later though. I personally saw him put his hand on her thigh & squeeze it while he was giving us a ride to a neighboring town to do a project with a classmate. She quickly shoved his hand away & glared at him before turning to look back at me. I pretended to be deeply enthralled with the barren, snow covered fields, on the passenger side of the car. It was too dang weird to get involved! It was so gross, the dude probably weighed a quarter ton, he was an ex cop & if I remember right he only had one lung. He was in his early 50s I think? There used to be jokes told about Chester the Mol-ster, there were tons of them back in the day. Although he was called something different it was actually his middle name. His first name? Yup, Chester! Some of us that were friends with her tried to get her to talk & maybe get her out of the situation, if there was one. (You know, before their place burned down & he later married her?) She got real upset with those who intruded, broke off some friendships, etc. All I can think of is that she was groomed from that young age or she'd been trapped in the scenario for long enough to have Stockholm syndrome or some such crap.

i used to work in a grocery store. there are both, cartons and boxes. usually the generic brands come in boxes with the perforated tab to open and the lid flips up, but is attached in the back. name brand ice cream comes in a container that has a top that can be completely removed.

I trained as a nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London in the very early 80s. This was before university-based nurse training so we were working (hard!) on the wards from almost day 1. We had a cap that had to be ironed, starched and folded correctly and the ward sister checked at the start of every single shift that our cap was on correctly, our nails were short and immaculately clean and our faces were clean of make up. If I watch a hospital tv drama or reality show, I have the flash-back dream, cap, nails and all. Bl**dy terrifying!!!!

Well, I always thought it was a little messed up. These "creatures" they are usually killing in massive numbers through the story were actually people in the street, they could be your family. And how do we know what is actually going on in a zombies mind? Are we sure they are actually mindless, don't feel pain? Are they actually dead? You wouldn't desecrate a corpse, but for some reason they have no problem dispatching zombies with complete casualness or even humor, torment them sometimes. What if they aren't even dead, but just sick? What if you killed 5,000 zombies, then later someone discovered there was a super cheap and effective antidote that will reverse the disease. Then you basically just murdered 5,000 people. Never seen any film address any of this stuff. Then again I never watched most of that trash, even in 2010 when people were obsessed with zombie films.

When I learned I’d have to go for cancer treatments, I went on MapQuest and found routes from all the places I’m assigned to work. The longest one was 32 minutes. Thanks to all the highways and major roads having random bits closed for construction, I had to allow 55-60 minutes for alternate routes.
