Ok, so this video's intro spoke to me. I play the London and the Caro, and I have a huge scar forever over my eye from the baseball bat when I was 7. I have no idea what you were trying to say in that intro, but at least I know why I suck at chess and where these cravings for dog poop are coming from. Thank you, Alex.

Lately I’ve only been playing the jobava as white and caro-kann as black. Crazy how well it works and easily the two transpose into other positions. even in the 1500-2000 range in blitz.

Two openings I studied the most that got me up to 2000 was the English and Sicilian. Strangely lots of people from 1300-2000 misplay against the flank pawn openings. Great video nonetheless!
@AlexBanzea
@AlexBanzea 9 ай бұрын
Interesting!
@MCoTEDDY
@MCoTEDDY 9 ай бұрын
Yeah simply because they are so uncommon. On the lichens database you can see that the English is played less than 3% in the rating range you specified. E4 and D4 openings have well over a billion games played combined, the english only 54mil. So when people start out and learn Theorie they will skip over it as they will only face it about 2-3 times as black in 100 games played. Meaning you'd go days and sometimes over a week with regular play without having to face the English. Therefore when you play it you always have the Theorie advantage on your side.
@perkalov
@perkalov 6 ай бұрын
@@MCoTEDDY He is also refering to Sicilian, which likely is the most common opening. The reason why people missplay them is because they are out "theoretizised". Ppl who play Sicilian tend to know their particular brand/line extreemly well while white would need to know 4-5 times as much theory, as black you just need to know your specific lines. If you are a Dragon player, all you need to learn is the Dragon. If you play The Sveshnikov, all you need to learn is The Sveshnikov etc, etc while white needs to learn all of them. The solution for white is to play moves that don't let black define what line of Sicilian we are playing. Second move c3, b4 or similar works and the amount of times black misshandles it is far higher then misshandling his pet theoretical lines. I have played the flank gambit quite a bit against Sicilian, but its unknown for good reasons. I am willing to play a bad opening to avoid players pet lines. There are other lines against Sicilian where white don't need to learn 5 times the amount of theory black does Various versions of The Closed Scilian is less shit then the flank gambit. There are some opening/lines that are harder to play against simply because your oponent is so much more read up on the theory. Against e4 Sicilian and French Defence is two typical openings where this is true. However, with French Defence the exhange variant is fairly simple and also French Players tend to hate it. With black answering e4 with e5, white pretty much dictates the opening unless black plays some obscure sideline. Problem with obscure sidelines are that they are obscure for a reason.

I have made the experience, that in the Tartakower the bishop sac on h3 works most of the time, about 9 out of 10 times. If not a mating attack, then at least in an endgame with 4 vs 1 pawns on the Kingside, even with a piece down Black has good chances of confusion the opponent. But I must admit I am talking about Club Level. On highest level it might not work, I don't know.
