Many drivers don't care how fast you're going. You're a cyclist, that means you're slow, that means they must overtake. Just for the heck of it.
@OnYourLeft5 жыл бұрын
Yup. I was overtaken by two cars right before a corner while I was going 38mph in a 25mph zone, and both of the cars almost crashed in the corner. I was overtaken while doing 46mph in a 30mph zone, just because I was on a bike. But they do the same thing when I drive my big vehicles, too. Usually, they cut me off when I'm driving my 7200 pound truck, which would crush their car like a tin can. But "truck=slow" same as "bike=slow." Some drivers are dumb.

@@OnYourLeft I fitted a Bafang Mid Drive motor to my bike and tested this out I was doing 31 in a 30 (In town) on a narrow two way road and still overtaken by a van. By the time you get to 36 mph as everyone likes to fudge the speed limit (I'm no better but it's usually on wide roads or late) it's usually enough except for those big executive saloons that like to cruise through town at 45. The problem with being on a small bike whipping along at 36 is drivers pull out in front of you, so you can't win. Probably 25 is a good speed - sort of annoying but you are less likely to get cut up. I normally catch up with everyone in town, the average speed on most of these roads is only about 25. Perhaps the logic is "he'll run out of puff soon and I don't want to get stuck behind him on the hill"

On a daily basis I am confronted with the same problems in and around Zurich. It seems almost as if car drivers believe that they are the undisputed kings of the road and that the lives of others are worth nothing. The most dangerous thing that regularly happens to me are car drivers who overtake me to make a turn in front of me, forcing me to brake in order to not crash. As if after passing me I magically vanish into thin air.

Best way to stop them overtaking you to closely especially when there are no cycle lanes available or it's just to dangerous to use them is to always occupy the traffic lane and stay right in the dead centre of the middle of the lane this then prevents them for overtaking you as easily and also to close for comfort or risk hitting you as easily as well also even if there is a cycle lane available in a roundabout avoid using them if possible alright and use the traffic lane due to Vechices entering and exiting the roundabouts at speed and may not see you properly and could risk possibly maybe potentially accidentally hitting you by accident

The problem is this gets the driver's angry because their tiny heads don't understand it's dangerous and a lot of people are too scared to do this.. -_-

Holy shit... the busdriver i would send a message to the Dienststelle... number and time of the bus, together with link to this video. And as I said before: when it gets narrow, close the lane and cycle in the middle. Don't let them overtake you. That is how I do it. But I also use a mirror... You're cycling too much to the right and invite them to overtake you when there is no space. And when I do the speed limit, I cycle in the middle of the lane when there is no cycle lane. Especially in 30-km-streets. No need to overtake me there.

if you want them to stay behind you, then take the lane. Don't move over to the right so far like that. If you can't keep up, sure, move to the right. Personally, I way people on to pass me, which is if there is room to pass me and there is no incoming traffic and i'm moving slower than traffic, then i'll way people behind me to pass while still holding position of the lane (passing me in the oncoming lane) If there isn't room to pass me (oncoming traffic) and i'm not moving flow of traffic, I will stay to the lane and only allow them to pass (again, wave them on) once i see there is an opening. You can't trust cagers and their instincts.

If you were driving a car that could not keep up with traffic on the flats and uphill, you would naturally put your hazard lights on and stay to the right.. Similarly, if you were driving a car that did not have the breaking ability to stop safely in normal driving conditions, like sharing the road with other drivers and pedestrians, you would not push your car to the speed limit, instead you would probably get your breaks fixed before taking your car on the road. This bicyclist doesn’t stay to the right while not keeping up with other traffic, and similarly reaches unsafe speeds on downhills where he cannot possibly break in time for normal traffic behavior in front of him. Combine that with insisting on speeding in congested conditions, and aggressively biking in times of poor visibility, at night and in weather conditions, means that he will soon have a serious accident. -That’s really the story here, unfortunately, and not “who’s at fault”.
