I prefer the converted scouts - much lighter armour which suits their purpose, rather than, as you said, space marines with a cape. I really like the scheme you used for the test model too, would definitely look cool as a Kill Team.

I did something similar for my Raven Guard. I used a few of the torsos, capes, arms, and rifles on some MKIV legs, and some spare Grey Knights Strike Squad heads, and they came out pretty decently- I kitbashed a Vigilator that way originally, and he’s very similar to the Forge World model. Just getting round to checking this out. Loving the cinematic stuff Zorpazorp is putting out now, very cool indeed! I think the kit bash marines look great man, although I don't know too much about Warhammer and definitely not a purest about anything hobby related. BUT if I was I'd happily be making up armies that weren't originals. Then again, I'm a bit different when it comes to LOTR stuff. The GW LOTR sculpts are just too good... I'll stick with those

Love the concept of the recon-marines. Always found it odd that astartes would stop infiltration work once they graduated from being scouts. I made mine out of MkIII bodies, bare heads and 40K scout arms, then added a greenstuff cloak.

Not the delicious exposure i was hoping for WINK WINK. But i'll settle for this.

Phobos Armor should be considered Scout Armor. It looks Space Marine, but sleeker. More apt for quicker and more quiet movement while sacrificing protection.

these guys as Alpha legion headhunter kill team would be wicked using a mix of the cloaks and conversion kit from forge world would look epic as a kill team

In Heresy 2.0 these are two different squads. The Power armoured guys are Legion Reconnaissance Squads and the carapace armoured guys are Legion Scout Squads. Also strictly speaking Heresy era sniper rifles are Nemesis bolters rather than the laser rifles the 40K scouts have. The conversions are very cool though.

1 small issue for the deathwatch helmets for me is they're from the wrong era (important for purists such as myself) but a bit of greenstuff "grills" over the mouth and they could be a variant of mk3

They look great, but I think the kitbashed scouts may look better with ad-mech backpacks and 4th ed Space Marine should pads as well.

I'd give "Starship Wash" from Ammo of Mig a try for a grime wash as well.

Horus heresy seems to be a bunch of rivet counters so not sure how down with this they will be.

Looks great bud :-) One thing I like about HH and have for nearly 3 years is the painting styles many people use, also the games people play are about having fun while trying to be as "histoically" correct as they can be :-) as they treat it like a historical game but in space and the future lol rule of cool always comes first and the people are pretty great :-) I wanted to get into it but it was so expensive plus most of the black books were out of print. I am saving up a bit of money slowly to get this box set plus I have my 3d printer with some amazing models that are very much inspired by HH :-) myself and the gf are saving up for a home so we are really saving every little thing we can to get there as fast as we can, its more important than games ha but still 😛

Better to do rule of cool than listen to someone online telling you what to do. It’s you’re hobby let alone you’re money do what you like pick out models you think are cool and have fun.

I'd just put capes on Beakies and add a barrel extension and suppressor from some plastic tube and rod , sod buying those £££ FW ones ...yours look decent at a fraction of the cost.

The citbash will always be better. Maybe next time try making cloaks out of green stuff.

Well, it is a Recon squad they asked for, not a Scout squad. 2 dif units, 1 in power armour the other in scout armour. So the FW marines fit the bill for Recon, but your conversion is more inline with the Scouts (being Scouts).

those scouts were killing me😂😂 get a 3d printer bra loved the recons i just finished a squad of mk 6 recon marines with a little help from my 3d printer i found all the bits for the recon marines printed them up and now getting ready to paint them in the good ol alpha legion colors

Pretty much what I was planning on, but just to be "that guy" - one thing that'll probs not sit well with the Heresy crowd is the heads are off MK VII marines (actually I think that Deathwatch kit is modified MK VIII). MK VII was only used like right at the end of the Seige of Terra, in fairly limited numbers and only by a few chapters (Blood Angels, White Scars and Imperial Fists IIRC). So I'd maybe try and swap em out for some older styles or find some cool bare heads. There's actually a few nice spares in the MKVI sets that come with the Heresy starter box would work for Scouts/Recon.

Your Scouts look nice, but sadly wouldn't work as Recons in Horus Heresy, exactly of the reason you didn't really like the FW models: the armour. Scouts wear (who would have though) Scout Armour, while Recons wear Power Armour. Both units exist in Horus Heresy and can have nearly the same equipment, so the armour is the only distinguishing feature. But your models would still work as Scouts. Although I've never seen Scout Armour with helmets, neither in 40k nor Horus Heresy, but this doesn't mean it didn't exist. Only the type of helmet looks wrong for HH, the helmets are for MkVII and MkVIII, which weren't in use during the Heresy. Other than in 40k, were nearly everything goes, HH is seen more as an "historical" setting (although for the history of the futuristic 40k universe), were the existing equipment and types of armoury and weaponry is much stricter defined. Your paintjob is great and in a friendly game I would have no problems with your choice of models, but at a Heresy event or campaign, where often the narrative aspects are in focus, I don't think those models would be welcome.
