Hi Ben, do you think that is hassle? Imagine if you park your car just 2 days in a L.A. All 4 tires, engine, catalytic converter, all car seats, battery all will be gone, car windows will be smashed. You would be very lucky if the car is drivable. You are lucky to be able to live in China.

I am at least thankful the car was not stolen or smashed. If one thing China is, it is very safe with little crime.

Find an agent/agency, they can help you go through all these processes immediately.

Sounds like more of the problems were caused by your friend rather than the government.

This is true. The big complicating factor was the fact my friend was not present in China at the time.

Thanks for documenting this process. It reminds me of the difficult bureaucratic maze I had to go through regarding real estate back 10 years ago.

Wowza brotha! I certainly think that due to the unique circumstances ;p of this case (Where the owner isn't in China, and is a foreigner) you had these unusual difficulties and added steps. I've both bought, and a few years later sold, cars here and it was mostly simple. We had inspections and 2 rounds with the local authorities, and the deal was done. But I'm guessing that additional issues are based on location as well. On a side note, I only took the computer drivers test 1 time. I had some good help, but also used a fantastic app called "Laowai Drive Chinese Test" (Not sure if it's still going or not as that was many years ago.). You should look where you park... haha Glad you got it all dealt with.

Thanks for watching, Adam! Glad your experience was a bit easier than mine. We were certainly in some pretty unusual, rare circumstances and that added a lot to the difficulty of the task.

Did you use any websites when selling the car? Was it difficult?
@davepsk7334

It's not really that hard considering in our country it's virtually impossible to sell the car if the owner is not in the country. No chance at all.

Yeah. Thankful that China is much more standardized than some other countries in Asia.

It is finally a release that the traffic warden is not that stricted. In China, policeman or traffic police are easy people, if reasoning with them, some minor problems can be solved.

I've lived and worked in 7 countries including China, I've imported a personal car as well and I have to tell you that my experience of getting a license ten years ago was a breeze, passed it first time with a 92. Granted it was the toughest driving test I had ever taken due to the time constraint but it was fair. I smilarly passed the drivers test in the USA and Canada on the first try. If you don't understand the system you will always find it difficult, the one country where I never attempted to write the exam was France, they have an absolutely crazy system designed to extract a lot of cabbage from your wallet and to support the over abundance of driver training schools. Going back to passing the drivers tests in multiple countries on my first try had very little to do with being smart, but more about my fathers being a driver training instructor during his military service. Whenever we went on the road he would narrate and teach the kids about why he drove the way he did and point to the errors of other drivers and the negative outcomes of these errors. When I turned 16 I went out with my oldest brother for 1/2 hour to practice driving and I went out for 1 hour with a driver instructor. I passed the driving test and the written test with a total of 1 1/2 hours of practice and a half hour of study thanks to the many years of my fathers teaching us at every opportunity.

I passed with 93 from the first try as well, haha. How did you import a car to China though? I'm very interested. Was it super difficult?

My friend is not so bad as it was he was just locked out of China for 3 years due to Covid restrictions. So we had to manage the car without him :)

I didn't see any problem, u have to clean all the tickets so u can renew the register, normally people wouldn't got that many tickets. And remember it's not his car, but still he can go through all the process without a lawyer or a delar.
