Exploring an Italian Built pre WW2 Underground Fortress/ Bunker named "Fratelli Croce" named after the Croce Brothers from WW1. Built as part of a series of fortifications along the former border outside of Zadar, Croatia. This one being unique in its near pristine condition and having an entrance between 2 graves. it actually goes under the old German POW gravesite which has since been exhumed.

Those things in the hallways are for easy passing eachother I think. In the old underground tunnels, dating back from the 16/17th century, here in Maastricht they are called 'amorce' and they were used to easily break through the gallery wall and create a new parallel hall to get close to the enemy. But I doubt they served the same function in a WW2 fortress.

Thanks bro, makes alot of sense. And they started building these in the 30s and there's hundreds of these bunkers so maybe you are right about both. They might have still had that static war fare mindset.
@IonOtter

Yup! You see those in train tunnels, too. In train tunnels, they're called "escape alcoves", so you can be safe as the train passes. I don't think they would have stored weapons in those, because there are no bolt holes for the racks. Weapon racks would be bolted to the walls to hold the rifles, so they don't fall over during shelling. Also, if there's an attack where the occupants have to go to their stations, then all traffic will be going in a specific direction. Anyone opposing that traffic is expected to duck into the alcove and wait for everyone to pass.

Also can be used for cover if an enemy got in the tunnels they could lay down fire and kill anyone coming down the hallway. Gives anyone caught in the hall some cover, even from shrapnel from a grenade etc. Definitely can be used to allow passing as well so also that.

I worked in an old WW2 Nazi Barracks that had been converted. We asked about the indents in the walls in the hallways. They said it's where they stored their guns outside the sleeping quarters. There was a stand on the ground and they were kept out of the way. I'm not sure if that's the case here, but the 'indent' in the wall looks similar. But like some of the other's said about the one in that hallway, it looks like a passing space since it's so narrow.

not 100% but pretty sure those indents in the wall would be for passing others in the hall, storage, or a point for cover if enemies entered the bunker, so the enemies couldnt wipe out everyone in the hall by shooting in straight line

I'm thinking, those small and big places/preformed cutouts in the walls, are for quickly putting what small items one is carrying in them, or kerosene lanterns when the power goes out, or place a item in for someone to pick up later on their way through, the bigger ones, for stepping into, to get out of the way of others passing in the opposite direction. Being that those tunnels are so tight to maneuver in.

As I was watching you walk through the tunnels, UNDER THE BODIES I wondered if you have ever experienced anything, supernatural, paranormal, etc. I would think you would at some point as the areas you explore are where soldiers were killed or wounded. The good thing about this exploration is you didn't mention anything about perhaps stepping on live ordinance. In my book that is always a good thing !!! Also being given a map of a bunker has its advantages as well. Personally speaking, I would have never have gone in there. I used to play at a cemetery with my sister and a couple of friends that was on our property. Nothing bad just playing tag and hiding behind tombstones...you know the usual run-of-the-mill stuff all kids do. Well, I wouldn't say all !!! Now I avoid them at all costs. Off to watch another video, yes, one of yours of course !! Stay Safe & Well !!!
