Admittedly, Ian, I'm not as familiar with these units. But that's not an excuse. I make these same goofs with ones I service all the time. Some days my head isn't screwed on straight, I guess.

That is the difference in a professional, he pulls it back apart and does it right, no matter what it takes. We all do this from time to time in the repair field, anyone who says different is lying! Keep up the great content!

I sure can, Stewart. Do you have the part number? I can look to see if parts are available if something needs to be replaced before you commit to spending any money. Sometimes these older units aren't serviceable for lack of parts.

That's a bid sonofagun You were smart to replace that plate, I would think if the tool torqued itself enough to snap the bolts, it could have damaged the threads or the hole itself. Considering how much a new one of those may cost (I really don't want to know!!) and the tight tolerances it was a good move to just replace the affected parts. I'll bet you using heat and cold is how they install the bearings and splines at the factory. Don't feel back, I've forgotten a few parts in my day too. It happens.

I haven't priced new ones, either, but this repair was SO MUCH LESS than buying a replacement. The final bill on this was like $130 or something. I'm glad these units rebuild as reliably as they do. For short money, you'll get a whole new life out of it.

@@CoyleTools $130? That's a helluva deal. I just priced one. $1020 for a brand new Matco 3/4" impact. This one is the MT2434 But it looks nearly identical. Definitely worth rebuilding. Edit: it is $1020.45 I forgot the 45¢

@@jamescaron6465 Yikes, that's a lot of money for an impact. You can buy Ingersoll 1" impacts for less than that.

@@CoyleTools Yes you can, standard duty, probably about half. I never got buying air tools from a tool truck. Between IR and Chicago Pneumatic, you have access to the best for half the price.
