In this video we are doing a deep dive on hair texture and you won't look at your hair the same after this! I'm going to be teaching you the difference between different hair textures using pasta. You would be amazed to learn what your hair has in common with pasta, and hopefully after this video, caring for your hair will be a bit easier to understand.
This is especially the case as you cannot treat fine hair in the same manner or with the same products as you can coarse hair.
Please be sure to check out some of my other videos for more in depth information on hair, and haircare.
Until next time GlamFam, take care, God bless, and stay Glam!

Thank you Linwood....... This WAS a real teaching moment! I am NOT a fan of the flat iron OR silk pressing. I've seen a new stick like product that is applied to clean dry hair then followed by heat. This reminds me of grease and straightening combs. Dense is a good thing! There’s truth to the adage that “there’s strength in numbers!” Because of increased density, you can often get away with heavier products than someone with fine hair and less density can, which should be more helpful for those high porosity strands!

I'm suppose to be recovering from my surgery today, but here I go clicking on this video. I loved it! You were so clear in your explanations that I stopped the video several times to take notes. I'm "Angel Hair pasta". Something that I discovered in the early 90's, but she did not elaborate or give me any additional information on how to care for my hair. At the time I was perming and rinsing color with her. She knew that I was also heat styling my hair. This information could have really helped me maintain my hair health. Now, that you've cleared up so many of my misconceptions about how I am suppose to handle my hair, I think that I can now have, healthier and stronger hair. I might even be able to increase its retention too, though genetics will play a part. So my high porosity colored is thin and fine and I will take my chances with coloring it because I'm not willing to go gray. But, if I can reduce the split ends it will help me in retention. These issues magnify on wash day in the matting of my hair. So, what do you suggest for my wash day preparation to prevent tangles? And is it okay to use a sealant with petroleum on the hair shaft and not the scalp? For fighting split ends? The reason that I'm asking is because I ran across an article suggesting that use of it will assist in detangling hair. It did work, and the suggestion was to keep the sealant in the hair to keep it free of split ends. I still use the SeaButter line that you used in your video for high porosity so I was wondering. Sorry to write a script let's blame it on a side effect of the anesthesia. Thanks Linwood again for sharing your expertise with us. I also wish that I could pay for a consultation. You and Alison would be a dream to work my hair.

Hi Mr. Linwood(I hope I spelled your name correctly). I love your videos. As a 51yo black woman, I'm having to start growing my hair back. Up until a couple of years ago I had thick hair that reached a couple of inches below my shoulders. Even though I had a relaxer since I was 18 and had my hair dyed blond with platinum streaks and wore up dos most of that time, my hair was holding up well. I was diagnosed with an Autoimmune disease and in the beginning my hair did not seem stressed. Two years ago it all came apart. The hair on the left side of the back of my head broke. It was about and 1 long. The rest of my hair started thinning. I had it cut, went natural and just couldn't handle the upkeep. I have no energy at all. So, when it got thicker, I re-relaxed and colored it. My stylist and I split ways after 20 years. So, I've found a new stylist who is going to help my with the natural hair. She does a lot of protective styling. I don't like the way that leave-in conditioners my my hair feel gummie, especially when I'm giving my hair a break from braids. To comb through my hair, what would you suggest. I keep my scalp oiled, but I don't get my hair washed weekly. Sorry so long, but I am thoroughly lost. I've got to relearn how to french braid, but even when she does a braid down, she adds in a little extra hair.

Angel hair pasta gang, gang! Lol 🤭 Being 4b/4c, high porosity, fine haired and low-medium density, I've learned to slow down and be extra gentle with my hair. Even when styling, I would hear snaps. My biggest challenge is moisture/protein balance. I'm always going into hydral fatigue. So now I'm working on trying to figure out the frequency in which I should incorporate protein. I've gone into protein overload a few times before and dont want to do that again so I'm starting slow. Things penetrate my hair so fast. I've heard fine hair doesnt like to be in protective styles. Is this true? Because I keep my natural hair in plaits, then put them into cornrows, then plop a wig on. Loose at the root of course. Btw, you recommended the Keracare hydrating detangling shampoo in one of your videos for high porosity or fine hair. (Cant remember) My hair loves it. Been looking for a new shampoo and I've found it! It's very hydrating, so thank you!

I have 3a-4c and all the textures in between on my head . When I was relaxed (I've been natural about 6 years) I would leave the relaxer longer to treat my course hair ,my fine hair would end up damaged. Or I'll do a shorter time and there be no effect on the stronger hair. So I went natural and discovered a whole new set of problems...🤷‍♀️ Keeping multitextured hair moisturized is one issue what works for the fine doesn't work for the course, and my over hair is very dry 😱😱🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

The struggle is real! I have the same issue. My nape hair is straight and fine. My crown thicker and course. The front and sides look like Linwood's 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ Mixed chick problems 🤣🤣 I wonder if I'm supposed to treat each section differently...ain't nobody got time for that!! 🤣🤣

Haha the way you said pasghetti is how my son use to say it when he was little. Had to watch that part a few times to reminisce.

this was GREAT!! I have "angel hair pasta" Hair. I mean some strands I can barely see. 😔 My hair was damaged last year from a stylist (Dominican salon) that used 450 degrees the day after Thanksgiving. Now I haven't been to a salon in years and have been natural for 15 years, I had the worst experience ever. So now almost a year later I have been transitioning from heat damage. I cut my bbn hair into a bob to rid some of my straight hair but majority of the front is still straight. Its healthy because I care for it. But baybee my husband was more furious than I was. I absolutely loved your explained pasta theory. Yesssss!!!

you could smell my burnt hair for weeks even after several washes. And she swore up and down they didn't chemically treat my hair. Lawd it smelled like a relaxer 🤨

Oh yeah Dominican style salons use A LOT of heat. Usually they are rollersetting, blow drying, and then pressing on high! That’s a lot to put hair through in one sitting. Coarse strands do better with that abuse, but the average head does not.

Thank you so much for this video, I got so much out of it. I have coily hair that is on the finer side and most stylists treat my hair like corose hair because it's coily. I'm now natural I haven't used heat in 3 years However, I still have lots of breakage, no growth.
