Apparently behind the scenes the kid who played Henry Bowers was really apologetic and really sweet to the kids and did not like having to say slurs. I just think that’s nice to know this child actor even understood this was wrong.

First time I ever watched this was by complete accident. Was staying the night at my dad's house for the first time and they went to bed but left the TV on for me to keep watching. At like 1 AM this came on. Now, I loved horror movies as a child. I watched everything horror you can imagine and loved stuff like Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Poltergeist, Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark. This movie absolutely terrified me. I did not sleep for like three days after watching this. I even spazzed out on the third day because I thought my reflection in a window winked at me. I tried reading the book to get over it, that did not help lol. This movie traumatized me as a kid lol. Did the same to my cousin. She used to collect clown dolls and my aunt had to get rid of all of her clown toys after she watched this because it terrified her too. I firmly believe this movie is solely responsible for the near universal hatred/fear of clowns in the world today. That it traumatized an entire generation lol.

This remains my favorite film version of It, saw it at the age of 10 when it first premiered and had nightmares for weeks afterward. The newer one is too reliant on startle scares for my liking and doesn’t really flesh out the characters as well, not to mention that nobody can top Tim Curry’s comedic charisma, but it had its charms. The book is the way to go if you truly want to grasp the story, as both versions don’t quite explain what the creature actually is. Suffice it to say, Pennywise is an avatar, a false manifestation like the werewolf, the actual creature is a metaphysical being comprised of light (hence the UFO look in the sewer), and it sustains itself through fear, though it also feeds on people physically. The reason why Stanley ended up killing himself is because of his skeptical nature, his mind didn’t create a fictional fear like the other 6, he instead saw it’s true form and it traumatized him far beyond what the others experienced. In essence, belief is power, and Stanley was never able to truly believe. P.S. - There was a popular fixation with nightmares and dream infiltration during the mid-80s, and there were other films that dealt with the same basic concept, so I wouldn’t say that Steven King stole from Wes Craven or vice verse, but they both drew from the same popular fascination of that time.

Tim Curry was the better Pennywise without a doubt. In my opinion, the remake relied to much on special effects and jump scares. The only redeeming part of the remake is the did go more into the backstory of Pennywise. And the actress you were trying to remember was Olivia Hussy, probably most remembered for playing Juliet in the 1968 Franco Zefferelli version of Romeo and Juliet (she was 15/16 when the movie was made). She went on to make quite a few movies, TV shows in her native UK. She made a few movies in the US as well. One of my favorites of her movies was the 1980 Virus (not to be confused with the 1999 Jamie Lee Curtis movie with the same name, but a completely different plot). It was highly underrated when it came out, a sci-fi thriller that critics thought was a little far fetched. However, in light of the last few years, its a lot more plausible (and a lot more scary) now than it was then. If you can track it down . . .

I believe the people are evil because Pennywise has always been there. They are all part of IT, the town, the people. The book is so intricate, so detailed. The one bad boy believes no one is real but him. I love the book. I've read it several times. The old movie was a great disappointment. The casting was awful. But I watched about 5 minutes of the new one and turned it off. The feel was all wrong.

Tim Curry is just perfect as Pennywise, since I watched this when I was a kid, I prefer this version even though I’m traumatized! 😂 the new version didn’t scare me at all! Btw, if you ever read the book, it’s so dark and a lot of stuff was left out because not everyone can handle it but it’s a masterpiece!

True Story: I saw this at my grandmother's when I was like 9 and as I was walking from her apartment to the cab to go home that night a guy in full clown costume and makeup skipped gleefully passed me honking his nose and laughing. I was terrified as we crossed paths but I walked calmly and the second I passed him I booked it to the cab. Later I found out he was my grandmother's neighbor coming home from a gig.

This was the thing that made me a King fan. Saw it my freshman year of high school and looked for the book my next trip to the store. They didn't have a copy, so I settled for the first book in the Dark Tower series, The Gunslinger. And that was it, I've been hooked ever since. Read most of the man's written and actually met him at a signing a few years ago.

Same, I was glad Adrian got his story told in Chapter 2. Wish they would have shown the Black Spot, but maybe it will be told on the upcoming HBO series. I think it's a bit of a generation gap. Like me, seeing Jaws at 4, people who saw this on TV when they were young love this version. I graduated high school (and had already read the book) in 1990, so I was basically just watching to see how well it was adapted.

For me, I'd have to say my favorite Losers Club member is either Beverly or Richie. As far as my childhood fears, my two biggest ones were my closet and under my bed because those are dark areas and I always thought that because of that, they were the perfect places for monsters to be hiding and that always freaked me out. I'm excited you're watching both the old and the new versions, I was hoping you'd do it that way.

Just noisy? That's very dismissive. The 2017 one is on the VERY short list of good horror remakes and in my opinion easily surpasses the original, even though it also has its fair share of issues. Considering that I don't like most horror movies made since the mid-90s, that's a hell of an accomplishment in my book. Tim Curry and Harry Anderson are about the only reason I still remember or care about the original at all, but it's not enough to make me slog through it ever again, and I've tried many times...I'll give it this, though - It's a masterpiece compared to The Shining miniseries.

@Mr. Vincent Vega It's okay to say you're completely biased to the original TV miniseries. You don't have to cover that by saying the theatrical films were "just noisy." Have the balls to say what you really mean. I liked both versions. The series is a classic and will always hold a place in my heart, but the remake at least did it's homework and made two okay horror movies.

@@reebasrants2636 I didn't connect to the kids in the remake vol 1 at all. A cardinal sin.. Plus they minimized Mike? Why? Brandis is great as Bill and actually memorable. For me, IT (1990) > IT (2017), no contest and most of that has to do with Tim Curry's performance. His clown design was simple which lent to how disarming he was, and that in turn made it that much more terrifying. His performance as Pennywise stays with you. I'm not sure the same can be said for Bill Skarsgard's portrayal. Sure, the filter of nostalgia influences my decision somewhat, but I felt the original just had amazing performances from the entire cast, young and old, and didn't need special effects to carry it's scares.

I don’t think it’s aged as well as it could have tbh. I think it’s important to recognise the new ones are not a remake of this miniseries, but a new adaptation of King’s book.
