"I'm sure he's fine, soft grass." So crazy story, a general was ran over by a tank but survived because the grounds was muddy and he was pushed into it, he got up, dusted himself off and limped to the medic. That wasn't his first brush with death nor the last, dude's life story is amazing. I wish I could remember his name.

A drunk friend accidentally ran my leg over with his dad's '79 Camaro at a party, back around 1992. Fortunately the ground was quite soft and my own drunkenness made me pretty limber and quick to get down flat on the ground so nothing snapped. It didn't hurt too much either, although that may also have been partially due to the liquor. I recall the people I was talking to beforehand were gasping and yelling as he slow rolled over my lower leg more than anything. Had some purple vericose-looking veins showing on part of my ankle ever since, though. 🙃

Very true. THIS is a Stephen King story and concept that is ripe for the remake treatment. Machines and technology are only more integrated into our lives. It is truly terrifying to think about machines turning against us today. This movie is fun and despite Stephen King admitting it was a coke fueled misfire, it has some impressive elements and scenes. The opening on the drawbridge is fantastic. It was also brilliant giving the main truck Green Goblin's face to personify the evil force, and the montage of fueling the trucks is striking since machines are using humans as tools. The weakest element to me is the annoying and over the top characters, which interestingly, would be very effective and lively as characters in a book, but don't work in live action. Guess that was one of King's weaknesses as a director.

Interesting facts about Maximum Overdrive (1986) (1) Stephen King, being a former cocaine addict, later admitted that he was "coked out of my mind" the entire time he was making this picture and often didn't know what he was doing. He remarked that he'd like to try directing again someday, this time sober. (2) An accident occurred on July 31, 1985, during a shooting in a suburb of Wilmington, North Carolina where a radio-controlled lawnmower used in a scene went out of control and struck a block of wood used as a camera support, shooting out wood splinters which injured the director of photography Armando Nannuzzi; as a result, he lost his right eye. Nannuzzi sued Stephen King on February 18, 1987, for $18 million in damages. The suit was settled out of court. (3) The title of the film is referenced in The Simpsons: Maximum Homerdrive (1999), in which Homer Simpson takes over a truck driver's delivery and finds out that his truck is controlled by an onboard computer. Yeardley Smith, who plays Connie in the film, is the voice of Lisa Simpson in the show. (4) In the film, the Earth passes through the comet's tail on June 19, 1987. On June 19, 1999, King would be hit, and nearly killed by a distracted truck driver. The number 19 has been prominent in his writing for most of his career.

The movie "Trucks" was made 11 years after "Maximum Overdrive." They are both based on King's short story "Trucks." At the end of the short story, as the protagonist is basically a slave refueling an endless line of trucks, he sees a plane flying overhead and he wonders if there's anyone piloting it. That's what is referenced in both movies.

Also, there is a man that owns a replica truck complete with the face and trailer, and it is powered by a 2 stroke V8 Detroit Diesel just like the original Western Star truck in the film was. 💪🇺🇸 Much love from Toppenish, WA State! 🤘❤️🇺🇸 P.S.- How bitchin' was that White 9000 wrecker with the air starter at the gas station that attacked Curt & Connie! 🤩

King was always highly critical of the job he did with this movie, even saying he was doing drugs while making it. I've never considered it to be a very good movie but it's not horrible either. Certainly a credible effort for someone who had never directed a film project before. If I was a teacher I wouldn't award King a gold star but I wouldn't give him a failing grade either.

I had nightmares about that steamroller scene for years after my first time watching this movie at my friend's house in 1987 I was 11 , I will never look at a truck a same way again, and every time I see a steamroller, I think about that kid, but I got over my fears by listen to acdc albums , that how I got introduced to heavy rock music at when I was 15, I listened to metallica iron maiden anthrax etc, I watched the movie again when i was much older, I felt a little scared, I watched this video,, I think I got over it,, I did had ideas for a remake, this time it involved with cool highway trucks vs import cars scenes, jets with missiles, tanks, military soldiers action in the city

Definitely a low budget drive-in favorite, which I believe is where I first saw it. And to answer a question that was raised, yes, for the most part the "no driver" bit was done with little tricks like reflective film on the windows and picking camera angles to hide the drivers. But where that was not possible, they really were rigged as giant RC trucks. The principle is exactly the same, the servos just need to be a lot bigger.

This was one of my fav movies as a kid. It has terrible acting and a bad plot/story but still was fun to watch. The truck with the goblin face just seemed so cool as a kid for some reason lol.

Giancarlo Esposito aka "Gustavo Fring" from Breaking Bad was the videoplayer that got electrocuted in the arcade. I never knew that until just today while I was watching this reaction, stopped and said "Wait, is that Los Pollos Hermanos?", looked it up on IMDB and sure enough it was. Ive been watching Maximum Overdrive since I was a child in the 80's. I've watched the entire Breaking Bad series at least 3 times. I never put 2 and 2 together until just now. Thank you "You, Me & The Movies"!!

Stephen King was coked out of his mind and said that he didn't know what the hell he was doing or what he was thinking when he made this movie. The cinematographer lost an eye after shrapnel from the exploding truck stop hit him in the face and sued De Laurentiis Films for safety negligence and $13 million dollars, which was the same amount as the films budget

Frankly, I think King was a little too hard on himself. Yeah, it’s bad, but it’s not like it’s an actual car wreck. He had some good ideas, just wasn’t coherent enough to really make it dazzle.

I heard that he was hit by a rock from the lawnmower blade. King wanted it shot with it on because it looked "more realistic". But I don't know if the source was reliable.

@@tinastar1972 the cinematographer asked for the blades to be removed from the mower, but was refused, he lost his eye, after the mower went over a piece of wood used to hold the camera off the ground. A large splinter hit his eye, he ended up finishing the project, then sued for $18m

It's funny how many famous faces are in this movie before they were famous. Notably, the wife of the newlyweds is Yeardley Smith, the voice of Lisa Simpson, one of the truckers is played by Frankie Faison, who plays Police Commissioner Burrell in The Wire, and the guy fried by the video game is Giancarlo Esposito who plays the menacing Gus Fringe in Breaking Bad.

Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive is one of my favorite movies of all time. You shook me all night long is originally on the Back in Black album which was a tribute Album to AC/DC's singer from the 70's R.I.P. Bon Scott who was known for singing sexually explicit songs like Squealer, Little Lover, The Jack, Love at first feel, Go Down, Whole Lotta Rosie, a rare bootleg of AC/DC called Crapsody in Blue about treating VD and other STD's. Girls got rythum, Walk All over you, Touch too much and Shot down in Flames, Get it Hot. And Night Prowler, love hungry man as well. Overdose. Hell ain't a bad place to be, not to mention Soul Stripper, Can I sit next to you girl, You need to explore the AC/DC of the 70's too. Not just the Brian Johnson era of AC/DC of the 80's-present day? Bon Scott contributed alot to AC/DC and in a way Bon Scott himself referred Brian Johnson to AC/DC before he died. Cuz they toured together in the past as to their previous bands did in the 60's in the U.K. Brian Johnson was in a band called Geordie, and Bon Scott was in a group called Fraternity. AC/DC originally formed in 1973. Over 50 years now if you can believe that.

Whenever you decide you want a new(not new in general, but new to you, unless I’m wrong) miniseries to watch, might I suggest NOS4A2 based on a novel by Stephen King’s son Joe Hill.I suppose the reason I thought of this was,not only the connection to Stephen King, but the fact that this two involves a vehicle.Actually two:The car driven by the main baddie, and the motorcycle the protagonist uses. Thanks a lot.

7:58 - 8:21 😂😂😂 Saw this at a dollar theater where the owners had the volume all the way up. It was awesome hearing the ACDC soundtrack that loud, with great bass. By the way, I think the wedding couple's car was a good car, since it was happy for it's owner. My opinion. Also, maybe the boats weren't infected since the were on water? Again that's my opinion, since that's how my kid brain saw it. And I'm sticking with those thoughts.
