"Slipping in and out of communities, and that's brave" .. No it's not, it's selfish to just do what you want. Not to commit to something once you've chosen it. I see this so much with this generation (which is also my own), expectation to be able to come and get what they want and be treated exactly as they want without any commitment or any reciprocation. Learning, respect, skills, they come with time, effort, and commitment.

I'm a Canadian who was born in 1998. So for the most part i've been raised in a world where youth subcultures barely even exist. But every time I learn about the different subcultures from the past, especially during the 50's to 70's in the UK, it actually feels more diverse and a part of me feels sad that this kind of stuff is no longer present among the young generations of today. I'm not saying that social media is entirely bad, I met really dope friends in social media and it's easier for me to share my opinions and creativity across the web. But at the same time, I feel like most people of this young generation are misusing social media which leads them to live in a virtual world of competition where all they do is get as many likes and followers as they can. In other words, they try to idolize themselves. Now if you compare that to the young people of the past (especially from the 50's to 70's), they had a sense of community which led them to form subcultures where they can naturally connect with each other and have a lit time.

I think that a part of our generation is rediscovering ancient identities idealising them etc... And the rest are just following the flow

I think because of social media young people want to be liked to much where as skinheads punks and other youth cultures took great delight in people not liking them

I love beeing part of this generation and all the facts that come with this circumstance. But there is one thing I think we should be aware of. The technology and their possibilities undeniable drive our special couleur. For us it means diversity. For others it means salary. We sop up the media. And they fill it. We feel connected. When they connect us. You don't need a nose ring to be individual. But you can have it.

Hmmmm I mean subculture is not a bad thing. I myself like many different things and take things from different scenes etc to be the person I am. An individual but sometimes I think that doing so kinda makes it hard to connect with others whereas with the subcultures we had in the past there is a sense of community and people are able to connect with each other and make new friends etc

Basically it says brits young generation wants to be cool ,different no matter what and accepted by peers, get a like ) oh my God ,no wonder that Uk's economy is getting so bad

There was a youth scene in Britain from the 1930's to 2000, but 2010 onwards it is dead. Modern youth have achieved nothing, no single minded original explosion of creativity. Youth culture is dead. You killed by being cowed, by your own fears, worried by offence, complaining about everything and standing for nothing. Cause without a rebel. You suck. You will reap your own ineptitude.
