You are on the earth but not of earth. Why spend so much time justifying the Genesis story when Jesus thought is wasn't important because it's temporary and not our true identity. "Judge not by appearance but judge by righteous judgment." You are right that death is not who we are so it's not important. Jesus showed that he is eternal and he is in us. God is here in our mind, not on the earth. We connect through prayer, not telescopes or microscopes.

@@geneticsmatter3834 Sorry bud, you're racist. There is no such thing as "race," which is why the Bible doesn't acknowledge it. There's individual, family, tribe, tongue and nation. You see that the last two are not genetically linked, but culturally. Ethnic associations are only indirect, as a result, because people can become members of the tongue or nation despite not originating from it. The only ethnic connections which are hard and fast are those of the family and superfamily, viz. the tribe, which includes all the descendants of a given individual or recently deceased individual which maintain a sense of family identity. You seem to be looking for answers to worldly problems from the world, instead of going to the Bible. You should watch this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z9eKl6ykyqnPipc.html

I've always looked at the creation account as God could have made the Earth and all its creatures anyway he saw fit. Whether it was a literary or literal interpretation I always felt like I could see both sides of the argument. What Pastor Doug brings to light about Death Coming out of Adam, is very compelling towards the literal creation account! If death did not come out of Adam all the other doctrinal truths we hold onto are void. Thank you for sharing this!!

Evolution doesn't change anything about death coming from the Fall. It just means that it was the evolutionary transition at which humans "eyes were opened" to death. It's the evolutionary transition where humans started wearing clothes, and farming, and all these other things. Eve has great pain in childbirth because we evolved large heads and hips to walk upright, and then with self awareness coming from knowledge of good and evil, she is stuck asking why it must hurt so bad. Evolution just helps us understand what Genesis 3 is about, it doesn't change it or weaken it in any way whatsoever. You cannot decide if evolution is true by reading the Bible. You cannot determine the age of the earth by reading the Bible. You can, however, learn a whole lot about God and how we relate to God by reading the Bible. Read the scientific literature to properly learn about the age of the earth and evolution if you are interested in them.

We know this happened, because we see the remnants of the collision at night in the form of the moon. Moreover, if all the asteroid craters we see on Earth happened 6000 years ago, we would all be dead. Just one wiped out the dinosaurs, we have 5 bigger ones than the dino killer, and hundreds bigger than the biggest nuke we ever made. Can you define death? If Adam steps on an insect will he smash it? Or would it have defied the laws of physic, and behave like it was made of solid steel? Does the death of microorganisms count? Because without the death of billions of microorganisms, no human life or other megafauna could possibly survive. What about all the rabbits that would have reproduced along with other small animals rapidly and then eaten up all the vegetation after a few thousand years? Without predation I guess the rabbits and other small mammals would have just taken birth control pills right? The amounts of non-logical Hoops that this belief has to jump through becomes absurd after awhile. If each animal was supposed to reproduce after its kind, and there was no predation, after only a few years the entire ecosystem of collapsed. But then, all you have to do is do some hand waving, deny logic and say, "well God made it to defy the laws of physics." Isn't that convenient?

@@garyholland7888 That's absurd! Look at how fantasy based Young earth creationism is. You can pretend to be a literalist all you want, but the plain straight forward reading of Eden in Genesis 2 is not of some sort of magical fantasy fairy land, but it actually has a specific geographic location. I can point to it on a map, because I take the Bible more literally than young earthers. But you have to abuse the flood story to do away with the extraordinary amount of evidence for an old earth and this of course requires that you pretend like all of the earth's sedimentary layers were eroded away and redeposited during the flood. So this requires that you ignore the clear geographical information about where Eden is. The Bible doesn't teach that Noah's flood completely redid all of the earth's sediments, but the Bible DOES teach where Eden is. When will young earthers start respecting what the Bible actually says and stop spewing their dishonest unbiblical rhetoric?

@Prey R How so? It's the evolutionists who have a starlight problem, with the uniformity of the CMBR. There's at least 2-3 different physically valid ways that light can get to earth in a short period of time. The one that makes the most sense to me is Russel Humphreys' Graviational Time Dilation model, which allows light to travel at light speed from the distant galaxies so that it takes however many billions of years to get to earth, but shows you what the galaxies looked like from the moment they were created until 6000 years later or so, depending on when you're looking at them. It does this by theorizing that the 'stretching out of the heavens' was a literal stretching of the fabric of space, putting earth into an event horizon, essentially freezing time as the creative act moved outwards from earth, before the tension being relaxed as mentioned above, to allow matter to appear out of the event horizon and experience time again at light speed traveling from the outside in. With the effect that from one moment to the next, on Day 4, all of the stars in the cosmos would've blinked into existence, if you're looking up from earth.

You've made great arguments here. I have been a gap theorist in the past. I've believed that in the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth, then there was this long gap where angelic beings took the stage until the fall of Lucifer. My thinking was, sin had to exist before Adam, Eve had to have gotten temptation from somewhere, right? I did believe in a literal six day "recreation" after the fall. (I sort of compared the six day creation to the Christian being a new creation in 2 Corinthians 5:17. It wasn't that the Christian was immediately spoken into existence at the point of Salvation, but God took what was cursed and created a new being, so in that same way the six day creation was a "re-creation." But now I think that's quite a stretch. But what changed my mind is death in creation had to come from Adam, not Satan. 1 Corinthians 15:21 and 22 says "For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive." It doesn't say death came by the fall of Lucifer. This video brought that to mind. I think I've had lingering considerations toward gap creationism, but this video sort of is the nail in the coffin for me. Thank you!

@Bane_questionmark
@Bane_questionmark 2 жыл бұрын
Compared to the standards of mainstream secular science I am YEC, but a few distinctive differences. Ultimately I believe that the Bible is God's inerrant revelation, I honestly believe the text of Scripture allows for these things but I am open to correction: Not totally convinced that the 6 days are literally six periods of 24 hours. For one, I honestly read in the text that the first day starts at verse 3, meaning that verses 1 and 2 saying God created the Heavens and the Earth which was barren and desolate happened previous to the first day. This makes sense as on the first day it describes God as instituting the orderly cycle of night and day, the first day was when God ordained a "day" as a unit of time. Also 7 is a highly symbolic number referring to totality or completeness, and there are other places in Scripture where it says 7 when we can confirm for a fact that is not the literally accurate number to use. For example, there is a place in Proverbs where the text says that if you steal from someone you will have to repay seven times the value of what you stole. In the Law it is clearly stated you only need to repay a maximum of five times the value, but the meaning of saying seven times is not literal it's saying you need to repay in full or completely. I could go on but my only point is that I'm not convinced the text requires you to view the six days of creation as literally 6 x 24 hrs. Of course it is possible, and I certainly don't think the creation was stretched out over vast amounts of time. I don't buy the secular figures for the age of the Earth or universe, but I also don't find the reasons for accepting a figure of around 6000 years. Maybe it is 6000 I don't know, but like I said earlier there's too many symbolic numbers, rounded or idealized dates, genealogy compression etc. for me to accept this one part of the Bible has right on the dot totally literal genealogies and time figures. If I had to guess the age, I'd give a max range of 6000 on the lowest end and maybe a few million on the extreme high end, more narrowly 15-200 thousand years. That's old compared to typical YEC but pocket change compared to the ages the secular world gives. Either way man and all the other animals have been on the Earth since the beginning, Darwinian evolution is nonsense. I believe in co-Adamism, the idea that other humans were independently that did not directly descend from Adam and Eve. Mostly due to several things in Genesis 4, such as Cain being worried people will kill him for which God places the mark on him. Who exactly is he afraid of? Without co-Adamism, the only people in existence at this point are Cain, Adam, Eve, and maybe some of their daughters (my reading is that Cain and Abel were the only two sons born yet, even if that isn't true it only adds some unnamed sons as Seth definitely was born after Cain's departure). If he feared his father or brothers, it's a very strange way to refer to them. Seems to me as though there were other people. Additionally it says Cain built a city, who exactly lives in this city? A small settlement for your own family is not a city. The biggest piece of evidence is the question of who the sons and daughters of Adam were marrying. Most common answer I've heard is that they married their own siblings. 1, it's very frustrating when fundamentalists accuse me of "adding to the Bible" and then give explanations for things that are also not in the Bible, and nowhere in Scripture is it stated or implied Adam's children married each other. 2, incest is a sin, for this to be true it would need to have been God's appointed plan for mankind that they accomplish his command to be fruitful and multiply by sinning sexually. Yes it's true that incest was prohibited explicitly in the Mosaic covenant, however we know that at least some things in the Mosaic covenant (like the ten commandments) apply not just to national Israel under the old covenant but all mankind. Paul in 1 Corinthians calls for church discipline on a man who had sexual relations with his father's wife, this is specified as a sin in the Mosaic covenant yet Paul of all people still holds gentiles to it. Sexual sins still very much apply outside of the Mosaic covenant, and God does not change his mind, sibling incest was as much a sin in Adam's day as it was in Moses' or Paul's or ours. And this can't be attributed to the Fall. If God created Adam and Eve only, He knew the only possible way to fulfill His command to be fruitful and multiply would necessitate sibling incest, a sin. And it seems like even before the Fall sexual reproduction was part of His appointed design, He made us sexually dimorphic creatures and instituted marriage. I won't say I refuse to believe the contrary, but I would need to hear an airtight case as to why what I'm saying is not an issue. This isn't like the above two where I'm just not convinced of one specific answer, I really think the position of no people specially created besides Adam and Eve has this glaring problem and so stand with reasonable confidence in the necessary alternative.

Honest thought. I just don't know about the idea of no death before Adam. God told Adam he could eat plants. Plants are alive. Thus Adam killed things when he ate them. Then does it mean no sentient death before Adam? There's absolutely no indication of that either. Even in Psalms it says that the lion cries out for prey and he delivers it. So God sees this as still good. Also, God said that on the day they eat from the tree of knowledge they will surely die. They ate it and didn't immediately die. But they may have suffered spiritual death. I do believe this is a secondary issue. I love listening to debates on it and hearing all of the sides. Plants are not alive. The Bible only recognizes spiritual life and nephesh life, which it is unclear if it is spiritual, but refers to any creature with 'breath' and likely excludes insects. When fish are in question, we see elsewhere that "the life of the flesh is in the blood," so sea creatures which bleed may be considered alive in some sense. Plants don't have blood nor do they breathe, and they certainly don't have the ability to commune with God in the spirit, so they are not alive. It's not a secondary issue at all. It is not a 'salvation essential,' because someone can be deceived on this point and still believe in Christ for salvation. But it is a primary issue. It is fundamental to all those other doctrines, and consistently denying it will entail denying those other doctrines, while faithfully believing the Word will entail believing in YEC

Here are some thoughts to add to your thoughts: 1) The scripture doesn't refer to plants as "living" in the same way that it refers to Adam and animals. Remember, we cannot equate our modern idea of "living organisms" with what the Bible describes as "life". The scripture does say that death came into the world through Adam (Romans 5:12) and that Death is the last enemy of Christ and man by extension (1 Cor 15:25). Likewise, scripture never gives any indication that death was ever among the things God called good during creation. 2) As for lions, why shouldn't they have eaten plants before the Fall as God commanded them (Genesis 1:30)? Did you know that even sharks eat kelp now, sometimes choosing it instead of eating other fish? 3) Adam and Eve did immediately begin to die. They were instantly separated from God and their bodies began the process of death (though total physical death took several centuries). This is in line with the Hebrew meaning of Genesis 2:11 and Christ's definition of life in John 17:3.

The psalms were written well after the curse had taken effect, and therefore have no bearing on how it was before. The plants were given as food to all the creatures on the earth. They may be considered alive, but they aren't _alive._ They are simply biological machines that are hard-coded to do one thing: grow. "If you gamble, you will surely lose all your money." Does the average gambler lose all his money as soon as he gambles? Rather, a clearer wording for English translations of the text is "it will be sure that you will die". I'll post a link to what I learned in apologetics in school in another reply (in case the link gets deleted, this comment won't). English and Hebrew are very different languages.

The Hebrew word for day is Yom. Yom has more than one meaning, it doesn’t just mean a 24hr day. It can also mean the daylight hours in a day or an unspecified period of time. So translating genesis to 6 literal days is only one interpretation. Yom could be referring to 6 periods of time. Our English word Day has multiple meanings. “He was a good fighter in his day” in this example Day refers to a long period of time. Hebrew is a rather limited language so when Moses wrote genesis he didn’t have many words to pick from to describe these 6 time periods. Plus he had to write it in a way that would be readable and understandable for the thousands of years up until now. In most of history most people weren’t educated or could even read so he had to write it simply so the story could be understood and easily told. The Bible is not meant to be a science boook so don’t ask a shark to climb a tree. Bible is meant to tell man’s relationship with God, man’s fall and redemption through Jesus. Bible isn’t meant to explain everything else in great detail.

But Jesus gives us a genealogy that is in harmony with Genesis, the Apostles give us death, not before the fall but after, which is in harmony with Scripture. I think the 'educated' angle is bias. These people had music, song, technology, agriculture, organisation and a place in time to fulfil Gods purposes in Christ (God is diverse in that sense, not looking down on the age but choosing to show mercy in that age etc ). Maybe science isn't meant to explain everything in great detail, especially as 'educated' people get their assumptions and experiments very wrong. Idk if the universe and everything in it was created in 6 literal days or 6 long periods of time, you can look at the original Hebrew yourself and see the translation and definition and see the word Yom had both definitions. If I say “I came here before you” that could mean that I arrived here earlier than you arrived, or if could also mean I came into your presence in front of you. I’m saying that God creating in 6 unspecified periods of time is just as plausible based on the definition of the word. And we have people today who cant read and many of the ones that can read are too lazy to read at all and many of them are too lazy to read the Bible and often those of us who do read the Bible have trouble understanding it and interpreting it…us arguing about this proves that point. They didn't have to see all whales on top of mountains and whale graveyards you CAN SEE today. And so on. Hey you should see, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/btl8ZZSSuL2ofY0.html

@Stephanos77 - Couldn't agree more. I think the biggest issue is it seems to really distort the way most people look at Genesis - turns it into a text addressing the mechanistic causation of the Universe and the only purpose is for Christians to affirm a propositional statement.

@@joshbartl276 - I only tend to have an issue when others are dogmatic about it. I’ll defend either side if they are viewing it with the correct importance.

I love Doug's style and personality. It's a shame YEC is completely wrong, but I like the uncompromising boldness of the honest people that believe it for the right reasons.

@@trainwrecka Yes, who can forget when Jesus told the disciples directly that the earth was 6000 years old, and that the creation account in Genesis was 100% scientifically accurate according to the Western, post enlightenment standards Americans would have 2000 in the future.
