Fell in to flying by accident back in 2017, I was 48, started in a Hughes269 ( an amazing little helicopter and an amazing instructor) moved up yo a R44 and then to an EC120b just last week the whole journey has been unbelievable, next ATPL just for fun. WHO KNOWS WHAT WILL HAPPEN?????

NETWORKING in general is my personal best tip to new pilots. but i guess it applies to lots of other profession too. All the jobs I ever gotten in aviation industry is trough knowing someone that I never would have expected to turn out as a reference.

It is surprising how many contacts you can make that can lead to a job further down the line! I too have used and recommended many contacts to help move to a new job. I think this may have to be a video! Great comment Nefron!!

@@PilotTeacher Yep I completely agree, even from having the will to just talk to other pilots, share experience and such. For example, who knows maybe you will help me get a next job flying firefighting from a youtube comment! 😂. Jokes apart that`s the point tho, positive attitude and don`t be afraid to meet pilot and mechanics. Cheers!

PT- Out of all the helicopter channels I browse you're by far the best when it comes to outlining the, perhaps, less sexy part of becoming a professional pilot. Always appreciate the advice and encouragement on how to get into the industry. Thanks for taking the time to pass on your experience. Cheers. I'm a totally newbie in the Heli world but I do have a thought for those folks interested in Law Enforcement. I'm not sure if it's true of most of the U.S. but here in Nevada it seems that the police almost exclusively recruit pilots from within the department. So unless you're an established police officer it's unlikely that you'll be able to get into the police pilot program. At least that's what I've been told by a couple of officers that are training at the same school where I'm based.

Thanks for your kind words. Every police force is different. Some hire civilian pilots and some will only hire from within its ranks. Its a case of search out the civilian seats and go from there.

I got accepted to flight school and even got a flight spot, but then the money part fizzled out... I was going to cosign with my dad for a loan but he got cold feet and backed out, so I had to drop the flight lab. I was considering joining the military to qualify for the gi bill, but I feel like that's joining the military for the wrong reason. I have enough money to finish my bachelor's degree and from there, hopefully I can save up for a few years until I can pay for it all. I already got my medical in advance so I know I'm medically qualified.... It's just figuring out the funds. My school (southern utah university) is definitely on the more expensive side, but includes nvg training, long line training, turbine engine time, and is the highest collegiate flight school in the US. On top of that it comes with a degree to make you more marketable, but yeah it's just so expensive! I'm not giving up and I appreciate these videos, they're really motivational
@PilotTeacher
@PilotTeacher 3 жыл бұрын
Oh No!!! Don't worry about paying for the NVG and Longline skills, they will come with the job. Turbine time is handy to get though! Keeps taking those steps!

Hey, great video as usual! As a flight student, I really appreciate that you do these kind of videos. I am originally from Germany and currently doing my training in the US. The helicopter Job market in Germany sadly is very limited. Is it possible for me to get hired by an American company and how exactly would that work? Do I need to have a Visa before I even apply or will the company help me obtain one, once they think I fit their position? Is it even realistic for me to be able to work im the US Long term? I have an F-1 Visa but that expires in 3 years.
@PilotTeacher
@PilotTeacher 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind words!! Answer is No. Unless you marry an American or win the Green Card Lottery you will not be able to stay. I was just like you but knew there was no way of staying. US companies will not be able to get visas for allowing a foreign pilot to fly for them as there are enough US pilots. Get making plans for your next country Im afraid.

Great Video! I took my first flight a week ago and it was absolutely awesome! Quick question... where do you find your b-roll clips of helicopters? Did you shoot them all yourself or do you find them somewhere else?
@PilotTeacher

Hi Nathan, thanks for the kind words. Most of the B-roll is shot by myself however if there is a certain clip i don’t have then i use KZfaq’s fair use policy to pull a few seconds from other channels clips.

It all depends on what the helicopter is used for. IFR, definitely. VFR it depends. Some owners and companies want them and some don’t. They are an expensive instrument to replace so most owners will just leave them in to save having a hole in the dash and just not use them.

Are helicopter cockpits louder than aeroplane cockpits.I have heard helicopter pilots gets hearing loss at after some flying hours becaz of loud noise inside the heli cockpit..

They are loud, especially when its powered by a gas turbine. Hearing protection is paramount to prevent long term damage.

A good quality headset or helmet is the best we can do right now in the industry. In my helmet I have a set of Westone custom moulded earplugs that I use to help reduce the noise levels even further.

What I want to understand is why the engine starts to turn but the rotor doesn't? for turbine engine. And why the engine starts and hir rpm fast and totor starts slowly and his rpm not same as engine? For helicopter that use normal engine? Can someone explain to me or give me some reference to learn from? Thanks.
