You really are one of the realest youtubers that I've come across, you don't sugarcoat anything, no overexaggerated music in the background, no over the top editing . It's just you, your thoughts and the reality of your situation, and I just wanted you to know that I really appreciate that. As someone who is currently trying to find a way in life, this is something that a person like me needs to hear.

I grew up without electricity, drinking water from a creek and sometimes sleeping hungry. This year I "decided" to fullfil my dream of becoming a developer. Now that I am and understand what it takes to the things you really want, I have no doubt that I will break the circle and raise my son the best way I can. If you want change, be the change.

Create good habits using Pomodoro technique. When I first started to learn coding, I though I was gonna study for 8-12 hours every day.) Of course I couldn't do it - I didn't have the right habits. You don't rise to the level of your goals, but fall to the level of your habits. But I could do 3-5 pomodoros every day, 25 minutes each. Eventually I was able to increase my study time to 10 pomodoros a day, then 12-16. 12-16 pomodoros every day is more than enough to become a professional developer and get hired eventually, and you can build yourself up to this workload, you can build this habit. Once you have the right habits, progress is easy. Good luck!

New subscriber here, I'm 37, 2 kids, and came to the US with a working visa as a developer... I dread what I do, but I had no choice, born poor in Uruguay, a friend of mine taught me some HTML and CSS 14 years ago and that led me to where I'm now, but I didn't choose it. I was laid off 2 weeks ago (like thousands of people sadly) and now I have to return to my country with nothing... Start over again. I relate almost entirely with your history, I had it rough when I was a kid, bad company, and worked in harsh environments for years (bouncer on night clubs, construction, etc) but even though I kind of transformed my life around me, myself never really changed and that is affecting me now in my ability and mental toughness to go through this hard life reset of my family and mine. Thanks for these types of videos, they do help me around my impostor syndrome a bit a least, glad I found your channel, regards.

It makes it easier when you can think about yourself from the perspective of others. Am I a useful person in my community? How do I help others? Am I really as good as I imagine? Wealth is a state of mind, it is relative to the environment and expectations. Even if there are difficult people around, that's no reason to act the same way yourself. Trust yourself and moving to another place is always possible if it helps. However, in new situations, you should not do things the same way and expect a different result. Finally, many people are better than they imagine and can do good things if they want to. You can be satisfied if you decide to. Every day is new.

"Being poor is a mentality." That is HEAVILY dependent on WHERE you live. If you live in a land of opportunity and high economic freedom, like Texas and New Hampshire, then there is a lot you can do to escape poverty and find prosperity. But if you live in a place with very low economic freedom, like California, the rest of the Americas, almost all African countries, etc., then escaping poverty becomes heavily dependent on luck and pretty much impossible.
@Anata_No_Mirai

I live in an African country with an underdeveloped economy. Yes, there is always some degree of 'luck' (if we can call that) involved, even in developed countries, but it is not impossible. Luck is something out of our control. I decided it's not something I should worry too much about. What I decided to focus on, however, is is the things that I have some degree of control over, which are putting in some effort into turning my life around, taking care of both my physical and mental health, and cutting the outside noise (both the positive and negative).
@casioamplifier

America is no longer the land of opportunity. Here you get discriminated from a job because you aren’t white. I worked at a company and 90% were all white and the only non white 10% were because they had so many degrees and super smart. So average non white minorities have no chance in America. Also if you think this is BS, there are studies done where a black person used two resumes. The content of the resume were same except in resume 2, she changed the name to a white sounding name. Resume 1 had her original black name. You know which resume she got called for an interview? Resume 2 (the white name resume). There is bias and extreme discrimination in America. It is no longer the land of opportunity

I try to keep my head up, and it’s hard. I personally feel like I struggle with momentum or keeping a stride. Throughout my life I’ve been unfortunate, no father, single parent household, lived in shelters, hotels, abandoned homes, at friends and family houses ever since I was born.Do to this I never stayed at one school so I lost A LOT of basic learning young. And for some reason almost everything I’ve ever attempted to accomplish has always feel through. How can you ever get started when you can’t even find your footing to walk. Sigh, Giving up. Always seem the easiest and only thing I could possibly be good at doing. But I still foolishly try…try to be and do more.

Trauma bonding is a big problem and too common. It's how we connect while we're still in a trauma loop. It's why it's so important to work through it and only then can we break free and progress as a functional human being. I'm glad you got out. I'm working on it myself.
@Tenderofyggdrasil

What's a trauma bond? I need explanation
@JamieR
@JamieR Жыл бұрын
@@Tenderofyggdrasil In "short" it's when you have been abused, usually in developmental years. You find yourself in the same relationships later in life, because they feel familiar. And when you try to leave, it's incredibly difficult. Because there are usually cycles. Where things seem good, then they get worse and you want to flee. Manipulation and control. Shaming and blaming. And at the extreme, violence. Then they reconcile, you feel safe again and they bring you in closer. And it repeats. Slowly you are chipped away. Losing yourself, your identity, your voice, and your power. So by the end you don't know who you used to be, and many don't even think they can take care of themselves without the help of the perpetrator. Even though that is complete bs. You don't want to lose them because you feel as if they are the only person who will truly see you, support you, make you feel loved and special. You bond over the mistreatment from your past. Because it's so easy to believe that someone else who went through the same horrible things as you will understand you at a deeper level. I've lived it and it's rough. Didn't even know it until i was 32 and tried to break a relationship with someone who kept pulling me back in. She had all of my dad's characteristics, tucked on mind games and manipulation. Trying to control, blame and shame constantly. Example; I almost broke my neck in a biking accident, so we couldn't go to an amusement theme park for her birthday. She kept blaming me for biking. Making me feel guilty and bad for ruining her birthday. Everything was always my fault. I could never be good enough. Needed constant attention and reassurance. The worst part? I don't think she did it intentionally. It's just she didn't know anything else. It doesn't make it right, but I feel sorry for her. And I wish her all the best in a safe recovery. Just like I am doing myself. Here's a pretty good overview. www.healthline.com/health/mental-health/trauma-bonding

Currently a junior in high school and I’m trying to change the direction my life was previously headed. I’m not proud to admit it, but I too would surround myself with negative people and try my best to fit in. However, the whole pandemic/quarantining that occurred two years ago was truly a blessing in disguise. It gave me the opportunity to rethink the path that I wanted to take. In the beginning, I was not sure what exactly I wanted to do. It took about a year later before I finally became really interested in coding/programming. Yet again though, I was lost and did not know where to start. Fortunately earlier this year, I came across your youtube channel, which led me to “The Odin Project” and “Free Coding Camp”. They both are incredible resources that I would definitely not be able to find myself. I think you had the right intention posting this video, and I'm glad you overcame your depresison and anxiety, however not everyone who click on this video have. You emphasize on taking action and making change but many people are not in the right mindset and place to do those things, because depression and anxiety do cloud you judgement and make it very difficult to take positive action, what you end up with instead is rash and reckless decision making which is stemming from frustration and desperation. I myself am depressed and have been for many years, and been through those stages I described so trust me if I say the only way for someone to truly overcome their dipression is to be in a state of total acceptance and serenity, not in the sense of giving up or surrender but in the sense of trying to adapt I guess and not thinking that because you're special you shouldn't be feeling the way you feel (and you're special) I've been trying to reach that state of mind but it's not easy to maintain it. buit I know that only then I can be able to make any positive and consistant change in my life. Because honestly, saying to a dipressed and anxious person that they should take action is like saying you should go out more to a person who have social anxiety.

I took action, put all my cards on the table, and then the pandemic destroyed it all. I'm having a hard time picking myself back up after what happened in 2020.

You remind me of me when I was young. The kid that was up to no good. I was allways into trouble and doing sh** that didn't do me any good. An I kept doing the same thing until i turned 30 while. That's when i started to realise this is not the way to go. Now I'm of drugs, got rid of my panic attacks that I've been struggling sith for over 6 years, and also restless legs. I'm going to rehab and get my self a job and make music as a side hustle. But I still wake up depressed and I don't manage to get out of bed. Maybe I should try to change that first

Some people's life and destinies were meant to great, average, and bad. Why some people were given the destiny of the healthy, happy, and successful gene while others were not so fortunate, really bothers me.

I don't believe that at all. We all get to have a choice in how our lives turn out. Sure, things are out of our control most times, but you can choose to feel positive in those moments

@TheFitCosplayer That's shortsighted. Many things are out of our control such as genetics, charisma, talent, intelligence and drive which are fundamental components that give you an advantage in life. If you are missing many of them, you are screwed. Once screwed, how can people be happy or content when they'll be struggling just to survive?

I've given up. I'm not going to care anymore. I achieve anything i wanted. Everything i persuade i failed at. Or was taken away by unfortunate circumstances. I've been treated like shit. I'm going to go live on the streets with no responsibilities

Im mid 30s and in a hole. I work 40 hours a week but am struggling with bad spending habits and binge drinking. I lost my best friend unexpectedly and my relationship of 13 years came to and end. Im trying to break my bad habits and refocus and make more good days than bad but so many times i just feel in the same place or that im going backwards

So you are intelligent. That's why you could make your life better. You have a very valuable and marketable skill. Some of us whose life sucks don't have that. You just made very bad life choices in the beginning. Even though I never dropped out of high school (but did drop out of uni...) I never did well in school because I'm dumb. I did try my best but I'm just not an intelligent person. I don't have any marketable skills and I'm also not attractive so I basically have nothing to offer or leverage. I have no options. I'll always be low-income at best and poor and homeless at worst... Kudos to you for being able to turn your life around but it wasn't just your own doing. Your natural aptitude and skills also contributed to this which many people (me included) lack. So no hope for folks like me... We'll die poor.

This idea ignores and disrespects the millions of people struggling to get by through no fault of their own. Learn economics. There’s a lot of space on the bottom and little space on the top, and there’s room in the middle. Based on our economic model most people are on the bottom in service industry or retail jobs. It it mathematically impossible for that entire segment of our economy to “move up” because they “stopped making bad choices.” Yeah, drop out guy, get an education then talk.
