One of my favorite NPCs is a Yuan-Ti with a snake tail. She operates a tea house in the main city and that's it. No evil plots, just the creepyish woman who runs the tea house.

In my setting, the Naga (original ones from Indian myth, basically the Yuan-ti) were created by the dragons as a servant race, along with Gargoyles, Troglodytes, and Kappa. They run the temples that worship the elder dragons as gods. They're not evil, and in fact are trying to make peace with the humans, but the humans are terrified by their appearance, and refuse to let them approach.

Joshua Richardson since the alignment system is written from point of view of the "good" human civilisations, following a code or mythology the humans don't agree with makes them by definition evil.

Both good advice to keep in mind around human-snake hybrids and life in general. Seriously, you don't want be be the one who has to clean up after the orgy. Pay to have that taken care of! I like that Yuan-Ti are a good level 4-8 enemy that feels threatening to the wider world while also being easy to justify attacking. And you can easily put them in most campaign settings, unlike Drow and Githyanki, which occupy the same kind of level area and general threat area.

William Aitken yeah They fought a ancient red dragon last level and won. (Just goes to show how broken the CR system is) now I'm facing them off against high level undead, like lich's and vampires with swarms of lower power ones. The next adventure is going to be focused around Slaad. The best way I have found to actually challenge players, (because a 1 vs party will always end up with a player victory) is to use a bunch of mid- low level monsters and a high level monster (preferably with casting to spice it up).

I used a Mind Whisperer once as a recurring villain. Introduced him while the party was low enough level to be able to almost beat him, but he still wrecked the party and then left them for dead. He would then show up "randomly" throughout the player's quest for these artifacts and just annoy the hell out of them, like strand them on an island of Kuo-Toa, a group I played like the Ewoks from Return of the Jedi, and the Kuo-Toa almost sacrificed the entire party as a gift to Bilpdoolpoop. My players don't trust me now...

If magic can create a castle with just a snap of fingers, protect from dragon fire and fiends, heal curses, fatal wounds, why wouldn't they prevent pregnancy, fix erectile disfunction, STD's (with paladins laying their hands on everything would ensure that) i mean there is the spell cure poison and disease. Spells to spice up bedroom fun, let's be real even non-sexual spells can be used sexually. Just think about how many potions and scrolls of polymorph or shapeshift are sold by people who have... aquired taste. The limit is only your own imagination. Sex while levitating? Animate object on adult toys? And with the dream spell you are literally only limited by your imagination.

A friend of mine runs a campaign that I play a Yuan Ti in. It's set in a universe where there were no monsters until recently when they appeared en masse and destroyed most of the player race civilizations. The player characters were tasked with collecting the remnants of player race society and forming a new country and they managed to get a city state together that had a massive illusion barrier that protected it. Working for the God of Chaos, I infiltrated their base and made myself completely essential to the management of the city, while in the background letting in other Yuan Ti into the city. The humans eventually began to develop guns, which drastically altered their interaction against the monsters giving them a huge advantage, so after stealing the plans for the guns I ended up having my Yuan Ti soldiers cause havoc, lock one of the player characters in a cave and dip from the city creating huge weaknesses in the barrier. From there we gave the guns to the God of Chaos, who taught the orcs how to use and make them, creating an equal footing in power but we still massively outnumbered them. The only thing that stopped the monsters was a really lucky battle between the God of Chaos who was challenged to a 1 on 1 duel by the leader of the city. He got a ton of crits during their fight and ended up beating him, banishing him from our realm. But now I have some of his power, and the Dream warlock spell, which I use to infiltrate the dreams of other citizens in the city and lay down suggestions for them to alter the course of their actions behind the scenes.

Great video as always! I have been debating when and where to place these against my players, may be another campaign. I'd love to see a video on Duergar!

I just subbed yesterday, and have to say I love your content. (I can niether confirm or deny about binging on your videos). Anyway, I would love to see your opinions on uncommon/weird races for the classes. I sometimes run a Barbarian Gnome named Boris. One of the best charaters I've made.

I used the "battle over the breeding pits, and corruption of the youth" ideas for my Yuan ti quest. My party thought it was brilliantly depraved.

Great stuff! I love the Conan references. You should do a playlist of Adult Theme campaign ideas.

Here's the thing, purists do like Cobra-La, they like the concept of it... they just don't like the execution of the film itself... Falcon isn't a good protagonist to follow around and the retcon of Cobra Commander being one of them kind of requires you to ignore all those times he wore a hood with eyeholes. But Cobra-La itself, the fans do like. They were pleased when Nemesis Enforcer got a new figure in 2008, they were hyped up when Pythona finally got a figure, and they keep asking for a new Golobulus. I did love how they were used in the GI Joe Vs. The Transformers: Black Horizon... Which involved them teaming up with a skeletal samurai Decepticon and a life-draining monster Decepticon combiner. I strongly recommend people read it. Also, I always loved snake men and I would love to design up some 5E stat blocks for snake men based on the features of snake men seen in Conan and Masters of the Universe and yes, even GI Joe.

In my campaign, I use the yuan-ti kind of in their standard form as humans who turned to high magic, but they corrupted dragon eggs (kind of dragon lancey...) to create three humanoid slave races: lizardfolk as a priestly servant class, dragonkin as warrior class and kobolds as craft class. They eventually overthrew their yuan-ti masters and have inherited their culture, but made it their own, essentially in the service of good. However, their former masters are working in secret to rebuild their empire, so my lizardfolk avenger is one of those agents seeking their former masters out and trying to learn about their plans and subvert them. This has been helpful in fleshing out how the yuan-ti are operating in the present day.

My players just finished a yuan-ti adventure a few weeks ago. At the behest of a local village powerhouse, they were sent to a submerged temple to try and clean the place out and perhaps bring back a gift for his grandchildren who were about to be born. The submerged...nay SUNKEN temple was not none other than a complete map of old-school Temple of Al'Hakkar from WoW. A few purebloods turned into a bunch (6) nightmare speakers and more pureblood attendants. That turned them into a room with a malison guarding some humanoids about to become broodguards. Rather than the troll ritual from the WoW dungeon, the yuan-ti were working on assisting raising their abomination into an anthema. It was INTENDED to show my murder hobos that they ain't always gonna win...and they had to escape and run for their lives. The anthema was killed.....maybe. It definitely completed the ritual, but they're not sure if it escaped. They're on the way to a big city now. Who knows what's in those sewers?

I think another direction to take Yuan-Ti is to look at classic Greco-Roman stories, stuff like The Iliad and The Odyssey. Half animals were very common there, oftentimes as minor gods or demigods. They often make demands of nearby cityfolk, such as demanding women for wives or they would enter into skill competitions in a human disguise in order to easily win the prize. A chivalry themed campaign based on the Mediterranean could very easily incorporate Yuan-Ti

we have a very slippery Goblin named Yeemik in my current campaign. I used my basic and off hand attack, dropped one to prevent him from taking a hit on the Barbarian that was down, and the other on Yeemik. That little cur gimped off with only 1 HP left. Still hunting for that one.

The upcoming Tomb of Annihilation campaign will feature Yuan-Ti at some point, although the undead will be the main enemies. For those looking for more jungle-snake goodness, the DMGuild has a user-uploaded four part adventure called Serpent Isle.

I think the scenario you described with the bridges over the pit, would be a place a monk could really shine: Fast movement, Step of the Wind The knock back effect from the Open Hand Technique Alternatively the Shadow Step ability of the Way of Shadow, as the place is likely poorly lit as Yuan-Ti would likely want those without dark vision at a disadvantage.
