So, in short, Zack Snyder is getting 200 million dollars and an all-star cast to make his Star Wars fanfiction into a reality. Living the dream.

@@Chef_PC Yes it is, that Zack was inspired in a certain part by Star Wars and the Seven Samurai does not mean that Rebel Moon is not an original story, also remember that all original art is always inspired by something previously done (for example, Star Wars is inspired by Dune and the Seven Samurai, plus Star Wars is also based on many other classic works, and some of those are Ben Hur or Joseph Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces, so arguably Star Wars isn't that original after all).

Snyder is my favorite filmmaker working today. He's not afraid to put his vision to the screen, regardless of the objective storytelling flaws his films have. His style of visual arts is unmatched, in my opinion. He's at his best when he brings his creative ideas to life. As opposed to Hollywood hacks, who are given carbon copy ideas. This is exciting!
@mrrictus
@mrrictus Жыл бұрын
I read and can agree with your perspective. His art comes across better without being shackled by studio heads looking to make a profit. Maybe he should go the John Carpenter route and go independent while he still has his youth. And before he becomes jaded and bitter with Hollywood in his senior years. Army of the dead is a good film to watch. But I do admit that his Snyder cut of the Justice League was a tad too long. In my younger days a film of that length would have a legit intermission for the audience lol

Snyder is a hack. While his films have some visually appealing parts to them, overall they are usually a dumpster fire.
@massaccelorator
@massaccelorator Жыл бұрын
@@mrrictus that would be cool if he went that route. At the vary least I hope his work is creatively consistent. I know people give his films like Suckpunch and BvS a hard time but I personally find them very refreshing in the politicized and formulaic superhero genre. Though BvS is probably the one film where he had the most checkmarks to fill. The ultimate cut is far better. I know what you mean about ZS: Justice League and I sympathize. I will say that it is intentionally cut into 4 parts to be more digestible and I think works better as a miniseries rather than a film. But I also tend to enjoy more lengthy extended cuts of film as they are generally more authentic to the writers and directors and less corporate.
@massaccelorator

@@anonymousrex5207 I feel like the term "hack" the why you intend is entirely the opposite of how Zack Snyder works. His storytelling is unconventional but effective. And his visual storytelling is very masterful and hardly qualifies as trash being set on fire.

The original Star Wars Episode IV was also very heavily influenced by the first Dune novel. So much so that Frank Herbert considered suing Lucas for plagiarism. But then on the other hand Dune was heavily influenced by the story of Lawrence of Arabia and a book called The Sabres of Paradise to the point where whole passages from the Sabres book can be found in Dune.

Not everyone is a fan of Zach Snyders' directorial offerings. But from my personal perspective they are entertaining upon first viewing. ZSnyrs':300 was a nice watch upon first and consecutive viewings(even with fantastical use of artistic license). So I am very interested to see what his next offering will bring. I am appreciative of this upcoming film being something different in scope. Guess it shares(on the surface) a plot narrative we have all scene in other movies of bygone years, currently and eventually in the future. As long as its not a remake,reboot, or reinvention of current fictional film or character I.P.'s, I will view this movie upon release with an open mind. I consider myself as not being a fan of any media I consider as entertaining,its creator/s and performers. I can admit to appreciating the craft that goes into creating these movies we enjoy watching(some times). End of line...

Snyder is a real enigma. He could direct some amazing action and top tier visual moments. I liked his Watchmen take even if he missed some of the nuance and intended tone of the comic. 300 was good cheese. He was involved in writing the first WW movie and excluding the final mediocre act it was great. Liked Man of Steel even if it had minor issues which are easy to handwave. Then again we had BvS which had major issues that weren't easy to handwave at all. His JL cut was certainly unique and interesting and at least not like the bland formulaic Marvel drivel. The guy overall really needs someone to reign in his bullshit and only let him direct so he can handle the visuals and action without inserting characters like Jesse Eisenberg's Luthor Jr or piss jars. Sure hope this is good, but there's no telling what the script would be with him.

I'm also not the biggest Snyder fan, but i do love his JL movie, i really like that he got to have cut in the end after the tragedy that befell him and his family. I'll admit the synopsis does'nt sound the most original, but i'm onboard for this movie, i just hope Snyder doesn't get carried away on too much sugar and goes all hyperactive, making his main character do loads of ott flips and stuff all over the place. Basically i hope this movie doesn't end up frenetic and crazy like Sucker Punch was. I hope Snyder to tone all that down and really make a awesome space adventure movie with some cool characters. As a big Starwars fan i do appreciate that he originally wanted to make Starwars movie with this story and I wish him all the best.

High skeptical of Snyder's ability to understand the underlying themes that gave Star Wars it's long running cachet. It may be a perfectly serviceable (if dark and likely deconstructionist) sci-fi film, but I doubt people will compare this honestly with Star Wars in anything but the most utilitarian technical sense.

Snyder's best movies (300, Watchmen) were established works that he could basically follow along and film. When left to his own devices, his movies are all visual splendor, and not much else. I like Snyder and wish him all the best, but I'm not holding my breath for these new films. The fact that Rebel Moon has to be split into 2 movies already does not bode well. I hope it doesn't turn into a meandering mess.

This rings very reminiscent of Battle Beyond the Stars, which is perhaps not a bad thing, I remember greatly enjoying that movie as a kid. I'm also interested to see a new IP to be honest. The last few Star Wars series and movies have by and large been mediocre at best, and really bad in some cases (Andor does look like it could be *good* though), so a fresh new series that isn't bound up in existing lore and fan expectations and that can be its own thing is perhaps just what sci-fi needs.

I'm a big fan of Snyder's work and this is a very exciting project. I can understand why some people don't rate him that highly, his work certainly has flaws, but I think his visual flair & ability to get the best performances out of his actors makes him a perfect fit for starting off a new sci-fi universe. The story to this film seems fairly simplistic, which is fine for atmosphere & visuals driven sci-fi, and maybe helps cover up some of the cracks in his somewhat iffy story telling abilities.

Aside from Rogue One and the original trilogy all other Star Wars movies have been a joke to the excess I don't even call myself a fan anymore. Hearing about the Star Wars brand is painful... like seeing photos of a lost beloved pet. Will say the shows like Mandalorian has its small moments it is just not consistent enough to be good. Won't even get start on that Boba Fett show as I couldn't even get through an episode the writing, acting and direction was so bad a raspberry award would be an insult to the raspberry award. I've got to say that I don't have much faith in Snyder as a director, producer or writer - army of the dead pretty much sucked and it took him 4 hours to tell the story he wanted in Justice League. Too, I understand that he took inspiration from Kurosawa but this sounds a lot like the 1980 movie Battle Beyond the Stars - same premise a young man has to leave his planet to find help to defend it from an invading force. BTW Battle Beyond the Stars is actually pretty good, a 'B' movie including the budget but really enjoyable. I'll check it out but can't say I'm enthused, but I'm also not down on it either ... just kind of skeptical that he can pull it off.

The only work of Snyder’s that I have seen is 300 which was pretty good even though I don’t agree with the political undertones. I will give his Sci-Fi a try.

Everyone wants to start the next MCU. How about just making a good movie that actually makes us want to see more?

Zack Snyder gets a lot crap -- whether some of it might be truly justified or not -- and yet he soldiers on, solely towards the horizons _he_ seeks and *definitely* to the rhythms of his own drums... I used to believe that [ Snyder ] really is far more a truly gifted cinematographer than a good director; and I was pretty vocal about it, too. [ [ _I feel mostly certain that at least once, I said as much on this channel..._ ] ] ...Now? Not-so-much... Science Fiction is a domain that's not only vast, but dynamic, and it's absolutely meant to be that. _...I genuinely want Snyder's 'Rebel Moon' to succeed..._
