I miss the Zack and Clarence chronicles man. Someone commented on an old video that they're the "Bert and Ernie of weightlifting" and it's something I've thought about often since.

I trained with Clarence in UL gym in Limerick, Ireland. The professional Munster Rugby players used to stop and stare when Clarence was squatting, the environment was incredible, top Irish weightlifters have come out of that gym including Cathal Byrd and Eoin Murphy as well as plenty of great amateur lifters and CSCS coaches. The environment and the community was everything.

Right now is on pause due to my Master's degree, which is pretty demanding, but your beginner cycle (lol) helped me get strong as f***. I was even impressed with myself and I just got started. great video as always Zach. for some constructive criticism, when showing videos in the way you've done here you may want to consider a different setup, since here the lifts were shown with a reduced framerate. but zyzz in the back had perfect framerate so the vid is still 10/10

@6:20 with Tian Tao and Meso. Meso hit 224 and Tian missed 225, so meso started going up to 228, Tian raised to 229, Meso raised again to 230 and Tian raised to 231. Meso then took 230 and missed and Tian went down to 230.

What the IWF did to Ilya was truly a disgrace. He brought countless people, including myself, into the sport. He was clutch 100% of the time under pressure, he brought so much character to the sport, yet he always exemplified grace in sportsmanship. Never an underdog, you still couldn't help but cheer for him. In person, he was always incredibly positive, energetic, and incredibly friendly. When they took his titles away, they also took away his passion for the sport. Watching him struggle in recent years was like watching Muhammad Ali box with Parkinson's Disease, heartbreaking.

You mean how they took it all away because he was cheating with PEDs?
@mrmolasses53663 жыл бұрын
@@jdh7144 he didnt cheat lmao they all use peds
@suprempuk3 жыл бұрын
@@mrmolasses5366 Yeah... That's not how the regulations regarding use of PEDs in sport works. Doesn't matter how many others cheat. He got caught and got what he deserved for it, same the Torokhty.
@chrism453 жыл бұрын
@@suprempuk well I guess they didn't pay the IWF to ignore like the others did. The corruption is the problem, they all use peds
@jdh71443 жыл бұрын
@@mrmolasses5366 "They" don't "all use PEDs" and any use of PEDs *IS* cheating. Sorry. Start a new federation that doesn't test, let it be the wild, wild west of olympic lifting (ironically enough this PED stuff is about to get weightlifting kicked from the olympics) and then fair is fair. I'd watch it. But you can't have some clean and some on PEDs and try and pretend it's fair and some aren't cheating. None of this denies the hard work put in by a guy like Ilyin, but you don't get to walk around with trophies and records if you're getting with an unfair advantage. It would be like allowing some sprinters to start 10 meters ahead of the rest and when they win act like it was the same race.
@dmolinaro3 жыл бұрын
Love the fact you decided to put Ilya's comp 242 instead of the 246. As much as the 246 was an absurdly technically good (and probably overall better) lift, that 242 (given the home context, how the cnj session was going) is the most absurd competition lift I've ever seen.

He doesn't compete anymore he used to as junior and going to euros and then stopped "some" people say he uses💉
@chrism453 жыл бұрын
@@isaiahmaghie5555 The comment you responded too is satire. Clarence's main issue is that some countries get away with it (or used to by the looks of things now) and people from the "western world" get popped. They all are on PEDs at some point in their training but only some people can get away with it.
@isaiahmaghie55553 жыл бұрын
@@chrism45 yeah I agree, I'm from and live in Ireland and my coach is apart of the irish weightlifting federation and was around the time of clearance lifting he was 100% a talented lifter, in my opinion he should have stayed clean and continued to complete he would have gone very far for Ireland
