I remember a great quote from your squat jerk video: "Weightlifting isn't a game that you'll ever win; but you'll lose, and you'll lose it fast if you refuse to adapt and be objective" Fits very well here: dude may have learned to frog clean and hit his PR with it but the reality is that he needs to adapt if he hopes to be competitive because he's likely capable of more using a conventional stance. But it's often hard to try to move away from that which brought you initial success.
@aidanivesdavis
@aidanivesdavis Жыл бұрын
That’s funny, I feel like the quote makes the opposite argument: when youre shown a new technique that works and YOU refuse to adapt by refusing to consider it as legit…. youre only harming yourself.

I used to like froggy style as well.. then I just fixed my ankle flexibility and no more froggy style or doing a cat back bend like Konstantin. The weird part is that elements of me were sooo mobile like my hips that it allowed me to lift a lot of weight with non optimal form without getting majorly injured - it just held me back. It takes a LOT for my ankles to have the mobility to lift the way you do after just a 15 minutes it seems. But they can get there.

Man, i tried that in my room a few months ago without knowing that someone else had tried it before, it's so easy to lift the bar but the extension is shorter, also, ending up with your arms in such a narrow position adds more complexity, but i felt capable of cleaning more weight like that.

I feel like this is more of an attempt to stand out rather than choosing what's most effective. I can't think of any sort of proportion or specific weakness which would suit this style of lifting.

Not sure if this counts, but I seen a video of a one-arm person clean and jerk 225 lb. Having only one-arm meant that the sumo style was realistically the only style they could use.
@Wayf4rer

I don't really think so. Might just be more comfortable for the guy to use a sumo clean and a narrow grip in the front rack.
@signs80
@signs80 Жыл бұрын
I have hip structure so that I have to stand relatively narrow but with my feet turned out a good bit, so a sumo clean like his actually feels most natural and intuitive even if I just clean normally with a bit of an odd North Korean style semi-frog clean stance
@carlwessels2671
@carlwessels2671 Жыл бұрын
@@kenjisasuke7705 I saw that video also. I thought it was a great lift. Going back Gary Deal (if I remember right) had one very withered arm (polio),and he used to press around 450 pounds (205 kilos) with am asymmetric grip. The good arm was closer to center,with the bad arm farther out. I thought that was pretty impressive.

There's a lot of credence to be given to just submitting and trying things a different way for an extended period, but if by the 20th time of 1000 you're straining tendons or injuring yourself it wasn't very helpful then. Each persons unique physiology still needs to be taken in to account.

This is pretty funny becuase in the search for optimizing. (I am talking about jumping but it applies to any movement really) Of course when you get away from something you have done forever and have been getting the most out of...even if you switch to a new position that you suck at the first 1000 times. The high end of that movement pattern maybe far beyond what you have put 20,000 reps into. But it will take you a few thousand to get past the thing you are comfortable with.
