The 852/16 was the last pre-WWII TLR made by Zeiss Ikon. This TLR carries with it the vestiges of pre-WWII design aesthetics, a style shattered by the mechanized warfare that left its DNA in post-war design aesthetics. This last hold-out of pre-streamline moderne design ideals carries with it a reserved aristocracy. It looks and feels like camera blue-blood lineage.
And it is. This is a Zeiss. The glass is clearly Zeiss glass. The mechanics are over-engineered in the most high-Prussian manner possible. This camera is as German as spankerfel and equally complex. So the next time you roast a young pig on a spit, grab your Ikoflex II, take some photos, and celebrate German over-engineering at its finest.
