Scott went on to write The Great American Novel The Great Gatsby, though this novel was in part inspired by Fitzgerald's real life. Things... don't end quite happily, and they didn't for Zelda either. She put in a mental institution (and her husband had a lot to do with it), where she died in fire in 1948.

When I was 14 (and mostly stupid but maybe not) I crossed out F. Scott's name and wrote Zelda Fitzgerald on my library copy of The Great Gatsby. Then wrote "Support the right Fitzgerald" underneath it. Got fined for it, no regrets.

Reminds me slightly of this excerpt from Sophia Tolstoy’s diaries. I would love a video on them! Their relationship was so messy and Tolstoy was awful to his wife who did so much labour for his writing. “I have served a genius for almost forty years. I just read Save Me the Waltz and you're right. It is definitely not narratively strong but the incidents were very interesting. Knowing that it was written based on her life and her relationship with Scott or her affairs, made it a bit more intriguing to me.
