He's singing through a time delay effect, either a flanger or a chorus. Both delay the original signal (his voice) a small amount and then mix it back with the original. You'll hear it a lot on Billy's voice. Roger Troutman (from the Zapp Band) used a talk box, which is a tube connected to a speaker. It allows an instrument to "talk" when the player puts the tube in his or her mouth. Joe Walsh also used one on his song "Rocky Mountain Way". Hey, you could do a reaction to that one! Also I wanted to say thank you for doing all these reaction videos. It's like hearing these songs I've known most of my life for the first time. Your perspective is always on point and your excitement for the music is infectious! Thanks for doing what you do. It makes us smile, and right now we all need that more than ever.

ZZ Top has been my favorite band since 1978. However, after all that time the music gets "familiar" and while you still like it it doesn't always hit you like it used to. Watching your appreciation of this song (especially the guitar) and seeing your joy from it dragged me back to my youth and what this music did to me and has re-energized my love of this music. I hear it with a "new" ear if you will. My thanks for that! It's great seeing a youngster like yourself loving this music made so long ago. :o)

The bass line in the last part of the song is one of my all-time favorites. Frank Beard is awesome in his own right. I have loved them since I first heard 'Francine' at my first high school dance. Some live band covered it back in 1970. Then, I bought Rio Grande Mud a few years later to discover it on that album. When Tres Hombres came out, we all had that 8-track and played the heck out of it.

I'm so glad you like ZZ Top. My father always played them when I was riding around in his plow truck in the middle of the night and mother was at the hospital working the night shift as a nurse. They get a bad rap from first impressions. Most people think they are the hillbilly southern band, but in reality are the farthest thing from that. It took me a while to convince my girlfriend that they were not until she saw the documentary and realized that they were just three cool dudes trying to do something different.

@@bucknaked31 my... I aren't we impressed with ourself... Yes, minimal phasing is used, but you being a "recording engineer" you must understand the principles of audio compression and what it can do to the signal. Are you saying that no compression whatsoever during the recording process? I use a compressor all the time for both guitar and vocals live and in the studio, but go ahead and enlighten me with your knowledge.
@_Common_Logic_4 жыл бұрын
@@bucknaked31 - Recording engineer? I'm calling "bullshit". You are wrong... And again, you are wrong... First of all, many of us who recorded on analog consoles admittedly might have assumed that the vocals were the result of Tape Flanging or Phasing, but the possibilities are endless when you have a master tech tweaking analog effects and pasting them to 2" tape. Terry Manning (The engineer that recorded the vocals) was asked about Flange or Phase effects on Nationwide's Vox. His response was NO... "I have been asked that many times, but it is one secret that still has not been divulged." Also, the entire vocal track was HEAVILY compressed and I'm not sure how you could possibly miss that. It seems that YOU "don't know what compression is" and we do. We also know what an arrogant pr**k is. Figure it out.

Thanks man! So bluesy and funky. The bass and drums take off on this too. Great times listening to this back in the day. They kick ass when they want to.

You are the King of Reaction! I been listening to Rock since i was about 11, nearly 50 years. Led Zep, Cream, Black sabbath, Jimmy Hendrix... Later on ZZ Top, Pink Floyd, Rush..... Amazing bands and love to see how you really get the music, you have soul! Take a look at Volbeat, Lonesome Rider, great lyrics, great song, great band. Don't waste no more time, jump right to it!!
