It was an evening sermon broadcast on am radio in Chicago. Because of a phenomenon called "AM skip" the broadcast could be picked up on stations in Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana. So, it was as if "Jesus" had "left" Chicago, and as Jesus does, worked some miracles all the way to New Orleans. Including inspiring The Reverend Billy Gibbons to write this great song.

There's a really good documentary on ZZ Top that just came onto Netflix. They have officially the longest running band line-up ever. It's been those same three dudes for about 40 years now. The only other band I can think of that would come close is U2.

@@JaDem148 Also to that list is Muse. Same three guys since day one and they've been around for over 25 years. Rush at least had another drummer early on before Neil joined. But perhaps the most impressive is Rammstein. That band has SIX members and never had a line-up change since they formed in 1994. In fact, they've stated that if one of them left then the whole band would break up and be no more.

That's my boys glad to see them still kickin ass. let me tell you the story of of the muddy waters turned to wine. They would stop to see my dad that was a famous drummer and my grandpa made moonshine from the water from the muddy Mississippi water they loved it and they would leave my dad some pine top pot from California that's where that came from i was just a kid then billy was so cool I play they same guitar style he plays. Dont have a beard though I tried but never could grow one like them..

A nice version but for the best performance you’ll have to listen to the studio version on the cd “” Tres Hombres. Which you have to listen to “ Waiting For The Bus” which then segues into “Jesus Just Left Chicago “. Both tunes must be played together . Thanks to an recording error they immediately go into the next tune with no break. Also the tunes are more upbeat and high energy.

The heart of Rock and Roll is, The Blues. Period! If you do even a bit of research, just a very little bit, you will discover that ALL Rock and Roll's foundation was the Blues. Every Rocker will tell you this. Rockers just took the Blues Foundation to another level. They just took it over the top. But, the sound and lyrics is unmistakable. And, even just a bit of listening to rock from the late 50's to the 80's confirms this. Personally, I love it all. So does my wife. Give us Blues Rock and we're in our sweet spot. The world is shut out and we're in heaven on earth. Then, in the 60's there was a deviation. A band that literally changed EVERYTHING. A new band. A new sound. It eventually became known as Heavy Metal. That Band, that sound, originated in a group from the ghetto of England called Black Sabbath. A group of guys from the lower working class of England that changed everything. In my opinion, no other group had such a profound influence of Rock as Black Sabbath. This Group was groundbreaking and earth-shattering and they didn't have a clue that what they were doing would change everything about rock. They are the God Fathers of Heavy Metal rock. Nothing like that sound existed before them.

I know most reactors hate to see comments suggesting better videos however to truly understand the funk and fun this band used to have you really really need to watch the clips from live 1980. I wish there were clips before 1980 yet the concert filmed in 1980 is incredible. The energy and funkiness is much higher.

You should check out Fleetwood Mac's Black Magic Woman. It was written by Peter Green, John McVie, and Mick Fleetwood, Santana did a cover of it, different timing, but his version was better received. Peter Greens guitar work is great.

ZZ proves you don't have to play a thousand miles an hour, and that the Blues, can most certainly be "HEAVY." One of the very first bands I can remember of my almost fifty-five years on this Earth. (Diggin on the hair Sugar-Britches...you wear it well) No offense with the "name." It's a compliment...a West Virginia thing.
