Something that’s also crazy is that Hamilton never says the words helpless until “say no to this” All the times that Eliza has been singing that word he never says it back until he cheats which I feel like it symbolizes that he knows what he’s doing is wrong and he’s married but he doesn’t really care for the moment.
@MindScape063 күн бұрын
It was also foreshadowed earlier in the beginning that he was going to cheat with the winters ball with the line “LADIES, they delighted and distracted him” and in Helpless when he says “My love for you is never in doubt” but his love is truly called into question in say no to this and after too.
@MindScape063 күн бұрын
I also noticed that Hamilton quotes Laurens’ twice which shows how much he missed his friend when he died

It's about intention and referential, one is there for ascending and the other one for descending. Also taken alone (without other notes arround) each underlies a role just by the name itself!

Nice video. I've read somewhere that an Ionian mode is characterized by the perfect 4th and major 7th dissonance, while major voicing is associated with major and minor triads. I am thinking that beyond a point, it's just hair-splitting. What is the difference shut/close, Japna/Nippon, India/Bharat, etc. It's referring to the thing, but perhaps depending on the context one may use it interchangeably.

Great explanation. I came here after seeing your aug 6 chord explanation vdo. And ya, it makes sense to have them both. As their function is to resolve to a different degree.

A very good short introduction to why we have equal temperament. I'm a tuning and temperament freak, and I think, as did Mao Tse-Tung (or at least he said so), that a thousand flowers should bloom Equal temperament is an amazing compromise, that makes all kinds of music, from Chopin to Conlon Nancarrow, possible in the first place. On the other hand, those thirds are really dreadful, and well nigh impossible to sing. The problem is, of course, mathematics: no power of two is also a power of three, or five. Even God can't change this, if She's logical. cheers from sunny Vienna, Scott

Mission impossible: If two songs---one with 4/4 and one with 5/4---are played together, every 20 beats should work well together. Is there a 20-beat jazz motif that can merge 4/4 and 5/4?

I don't know of such a piece off the top of my head, but you could definitely craft a composition that would do exactly that. I'm intrigued!

I don't care how often I hear it, I still love Take Five on so many levels. On the sensory level, it's so great as a piece of music. Just moves so well, Paul Desmond is his usual playful, superbly skilled self, and Joe Morello's drumming is iconic on it (although Paul Desmond wrote the tune, Joe Morello was a significant driving force in its creation, too). As a beginner musician and music student, this song helps me to understand time signatures so much, including how they affect the music and my experience of it. And finally, slowly and surely, I'm working on this song as a guitarist. I have the chords and rhythm side down pretty well, so my energy goes more towards Paul Desmond's beautiful alto sax playing. I hope soon to be competent enough at it to record it and share it with friends.

Why is the F#7 in the key of (D) on my chord chart ? Shouldn't F be a minor ? Is this F#7 a subdominant function ? I thought the (Fm) or iii was a ( Tonic) replacement ??
@twominutemusictheory2 ай бұрын
Without being able to see your chord chart, I’d guess it is saying that F# is the dominant chord in B minor (harmonic minor, with a raised leading tone), which shares a key signature with D major. You are correct in saying that F# would be the iii and minor in the key of D major, but I’m guessing your chart is referring to B harmonic minor.
