I have the pistol grip version of this one. Same happened to me after not having used it for a very long time. I left it for my apprentice to use and aparantly he was a little embarrassed to use what I call the noisy cricket. So it was left unused. I took it back and found the battery flat and “would not charge”. I opened it up and checked and the cell was discharged. I put it back together tho as I know most BMS / charging chips have a feature for low voltage cells. They bring them up extremely slow to avoid damaging the cell. I put it on the charger and it looked dead, went out on a visit to a customer and when I got back to the office it was doing the normal charge. :) So I bet yours would have done the same if you left it plugged in for a couple of hours! :) Just a tip for the next one you come across.

Are you salvaging your lithium batteries, or buying them new ? I've converted a couple of small electric screwdrivers to lion from salvaged batteries, but find they don't have the same tork/power as the original NiCd batteries. Another good job, i do enjoy watching your videos, you deserve more views.
@DaftOldMan23 сағат бұрын
At the beginning I was salvaging 18650 cells from electric bike batteries. Now I am using new 18650 but they are expensive and hard to source in UK. If you use genuine LG or Samsung cells you don't have any problem with power. I wish I had more views to help cover the cost of the videos but some channels just don't get high views.

Try changing your KZfaq moniker to something specifically related to the type of videos you're uploading. Maybe something like "fixing stuff" added at the end of your title/moniker may help other fix it fans find your channel. Just a thought.

Did you consider not using the type C USB connector on your Lipo charging board, and instead, solder the wires from the barrel jack charging port to the Lipo charging board directly? This way, you can use the same AC adaptor to charge the battery.

@@DaftOldMan for me it was interesting to see the original battery having such low voltage. In case the charger/bms circuit works correctly, it should not discharge the battery lower than 2.7-2.5v. This should be the minimum alowed for a li-ion type of battery. In case you go lower, you can damage permanently the battery or significantly reduce it's lifetime. I did a repair on this model not so long ago, it was swine to put back together, no space wasted, so compact. The problem on mine (actually my brothers) was the chuck, it wouldn't turn, turned out that a ballbearing had slipped out of place and was preventing the chuck from turning. Needless to say I'd completely stripped it down to the bare bones before I found the problem. Works fine now.

What was the load? Voltage alone doesn't mean very much. If you can pull 100 amps at 5v then that's 500w. Which is better than 12v at only 40a. But I can just about tell you what the problem is. It is your rotor disks being steel, unlaminated, and in no way optimized for use in an alternator. And well, the magnets could have been bigger and stronger, yeah. Okay so maybe not particularly practical or even cost effective, but that's cool, you did something instead of just talking about it and dreaming big dreams.
@DaftOldMan22 күн бұрын
Thanks for commenting. I am still building small PMA's but none of them give any real power once a load is applied.
@growleym50422 күн бұрын
Why not just pull one of the pole pieces off and put a single big ring magnet right where the old rotor coil was? You would have essentially the same device as before, except instead of producing the field with a single electromagnet, you produce the field with a single permanent magnet. You might have to stack multiple ring magnets, and maybe make a bushing if the shaft is too small, no biggie. Of course then you would also have a pretty cool DIY PMAC motor, if you provide a controller and a means of commutation such as hall effect sensors.

No no no, never solder any Lipo batteries of any shape or size, as you well probably already know, the heat of a soldering iron, makes them very susceptible to fail, or even burn your house down, if it’s only for one battery, I recommend you purchase a spot welding machine/kit, you will have a lot more times to use it, it will pay for itself in no time, and not burn your house down, longevity of the tool will be greater, just saying old mate.. 🤙🏼 On another note, your using pz bits instead of ph bits, that’s why they keep chewing out the bits or the screw head..
