Beautifully done video. Watching it brought back a flood of memories from when I was stationed there in 1978-1979. It was a vibrant community of people making the best of an inhospitable yet beautiful place. Learned to fly fish there and enjoyed some of the freshest fish in the world. Sad to see the condition of things now.

I lived on Adak while on deployment in the Navy in 1985. VP-9 AE2…not an AE2 when I was there though. AEAN ! Thank you for this video. So sad to see the condition of the buildings now. Beautiful video.❤

Beautiful work. But it made me so sad to see the remnants of the installations, slowly rotting away. It will always be otherwise in my memory, the vibrant places and people who lived and worked there when I did. The Rock.

If you don't mind, what would you say was the coldest night you experienced (including bivouacking)?
@ViktorPosnov9 күн бұрын
In Greenland? On another trip I was cold every night as my air mattress had a hole, so I had to sleep on the ground. I was able to sleep only on my arms to stay warm.

@@ViktorPosnov I was wondering if -10C comfort bag is warm enough, it should be plenty I think... I am going in this area in about a month and half and staying until early-mid september, maybe some summit camping for photos. Polar bears seem to be an issue this year due to extended ice floes season, I am a bit worried.

July 2, 2024 The Umnak islands are adminisistered by Izembek National Wildlife Refuge, Cold Bay, Alaska. Snowline is at 1200 feet elevation in summer. There are two very active volcanoes and an Inupiat native peoples village at Nikolski on Umnak Island. Wildlife is strictly protected.

it is also the views are very different from a drone. I have been to Areopolis, for example, but I had never seen it from the air via drone. Big difference.

I was born in Crete but have no house there and have not been there since 1997. On the contrary, the Peloponnese is so close to Athens and the roads are so excellent and fast these days, it is very easy to visit. I have so many times, but this video still shows many excellent sights I have never seen

This blows my mind! My 1st memory's as a child are from when my family lived on Umnak. Great work on this documentary! Love seeing where I grew up in such high quality video. Thank you! My family I think was given a licence from the government to slaughter and sell the cows on the island they also rounded up the reindeer with helicopter and would harvest the antlers to sell to the Koreans. Hope to go back someday.
