that stand is a really nice item in its own right, it does remind me a little of the frog skybase stands, as it seems to have a hole so it can be screwed to a wall, as well as being free standing.

I was on vacation down to Carlsbad Caverns last week and while doing a Fun Run at the local Wally World, I found an AMT kit of a Chevelle Funny Car (with new tooling ) in the Bargain rack. Someone had slit the plastic under the boxes edge. Kit was unopened otherwise. I haven't built a car model in over 40 yrs, ( I'm a Tank guy ) but this will bring back memories. Now if I can only find some lacquer paint for the body. Thank you for the video, Sir.

Hey, you're welcome! 😀 I was all military as a youngster, and concentrated on that when I picked up the hobby again in 2023. Now I'm expanding into cars and trucks, and these new toolings make it really fun. For this kit, I chose the Tamiya spray-can TS-54 Light Metallic Blue, and I'll use a silver Sharpie for the chromed panel lines. Thanks Zin! I thought I replied before now, but YT seems to be dropping some of my comments 🤔. You know how offensive I can be... 😐 Anyway: Yes, I think I'll use that angle for the after-builds, but continue with the overhead on the unboxings. Likewise with the builds... Although I've lobbied fiercely for it, the studio won't pay for a Zipline 360° Wraparound camera with 1000x magnification, so I'll have to make the best of what I've got... 😝 For what it is, the kit turned out really well, and more could be done with it if one so desired. It was fun. I'm looking forward to a Summer of simpler vintage builds, so there'll be lots coming down the pipe...

Yes, Steve, Canada Post rates are very high. I can ship a package from Ontario via UPS to Florida and Oregon cheaper than thru CP. In fact cheaper than sending the same size package to Alberta. One has to wonder why. And CP adds a "Fuel Surcharge" to every package, and that charge is update weekly. And get this, at present the charge is 16% to the USA/Foreign, and 26% for domestic packages (Canada). Almost double surcharge for Canada than the USA. It boggles the mind, but they say gas is cheaper in the USA. And of course they just hand it off to the USPS. . I have ordered from Rarewaves (aka Rarewaves-CA on Amazon Canada). I order DVDs/Blurays. Shipping is $ 3.49 for up o 2 discs. They have excellent service and the package has always arrived earlier than expected. I guess they are a full retail store of some kind. , Ray Cross art work is awesome. Nice kit. Those early Tamiya kits are a good bang for the buck. Nice that Tamiya re-issues them every so often.
@stevesmodelbuilds547319 күн бұрын
Hi Garfield! Thanks for watching 😀. Well, the US doesn't have a carbon tax... Most of those vintage Tamiya kits never went out of production -- that's how good they are. One exciting thing that's happening is that Round 2 is re-releasing a lot of the classic AMT and MPC kits with fresh toolings. I've got a real honey on the way now, and I think I'll do a live chat with the unboxing and review, so stay tuned!
@garfieldsmith33218 күн бұрын
@@stevesmodelbuilds5473 Yep. The CP fuel surcharge has been going on for a long time now. Just another cash grab. Tamiya does keep their molds and they clean them up and re-pop the kits. unlike a lot of manufacyrers. Last year I go their first 5 Military Miniatures, MM35001 to MM35005. Made in Philippines instead of Japan. They are releasing three older kits of their US Half-Tracks. Should be available soon. I have a mission to get all of the MM series. I have a couple that are originals and use a different numbering system. . Round 2 is doing a great job of re-releasing those kits. I have many of their "Polar Lights" Sci-fi kits. Mostly now discontinued. Only MPC car kits I have of theirs in the 1932 Imperial Gangbusters kit. Built the original kit in the 60s so I had to get that one. Hope they re-pop the entire series. Round 2 and Atlantis are great for re-popping old kits that I remember building.

A chrome ink works well. Brands like, Molotow or AK Super Chrome. I have an example of the Molotow used on a 1/32 Spitfire and the AK on a 1/24, P-47 Razorback on my channel. It is tricky to do large areas for an even reflective finish but in the case of a high polished aluminum appearance on bare metal aircraft I like the modulation as a fully chrome surface would look toy like.

A-10 is cool. They were designed with triple redundant systems to keep it flying when damaged. Had my hand on the barrel of one at a 1982 Hamilton Airshow and later watched it do a slow flight demonstration. Reedoak resin figures has a A-10 seated pilot #480313. I have used Reedoak for many 1/32 builds. For an informative, humorous historical two part video; 'LazerPig' on the A10 on YT. He also covers a lot of tank related topics. Revell is the best in 1/48.

Hi Seamy! Yes, I've seen LazerPig's stuff, one vid just today 👍. They're tough birds, and if Razorbacks can fly, why not Warthogs? 😅 On the same animal theme, Revell has some real dogs out there, especially the older kits and the 'Revell of Germany' garbage. I use mostly an artist oil set with odourless thinner for grime. I did however try Vallejo 78.121 Desert Dust on a 1/35 Ryefield Model Easy Eight Sherman with interior to give it more interest than just an olive drab finish. Along with airbrushing a similar tan paint colour the Desert Dust helped to mimic the look of a tank driven in a dusty dry environment. The art of scale modelling has a full spectrum of approaches and needs that can be justified and or accepted as individualism with each builder by others. Talent and ability is usually a short section of a learning curve for those that challenge themselves to improve on each project. We are all on different paths at any given time. Newer kits got me back into the hobby in 2018. For the 1/32 Tamiya kits; Spitfires, Corsair, Zero, Mustang and Mosquito were some of the first followed by older F-15,s F-4Es (big fan despite the issues all the F-4 kits have but helped to gain new abilities) F-16CJs. Currently working on some 1/24 aircraft that are more involved . The only newer kit so far that I would not build again despite achieving a good outcome because of the problems it has is the Revell Germany 1/48 SR-71. Monogram was my favourite manufacturer in the 70s still have the 1/48 B-17G bought back then, completed 2020.
@stevesmodelbuilds5473Ай бұрын
Thanks for watching, and for your words of encouragement! 😀 One of the wonderful things about our hobby is there's something for all skill levels and interests, and plenty of opportunities to learn and grow. Yeah, I've heard the kits branded Revell of Germany are not very good, and as a teen wouldn't touch Revell with a ten-foot pole. The newer stuff is better, and it's nice they re-box some of the old Matchbox diorama kits. Your 1/48 Blackbird must be huge 😮. I built the Revell 1/72 version -- originally a Monogram kit not long ago -- and was very pleased with it. Thanks again! 😀

The SR-71 was done in 2022 and the latest post is of a 1/24 P-47 Razorback in flight. Working on two of four 1/24 Airfix Mk.IXc Spitfires. As good as the kit is out of the box, there are lots of mods that can be done. They will be posted soon, in flight with pilot figures as Johnnie E. Johnson aircraft 398 and George Beurling MA585. Johnson had acknowledged they flew together once or twice whilst in the RCAF, 403 Squadron. Learning more about video editing.
