I think he was a reluctant villain. He did many things that were quite heinous even for his time: a) he could have not taken Eliza knowing that it would cause her this much grief. b) he knew Soloman was educated and likely he was telling the truth about being a free man but he didn't want to hear it c) He sold Soloman to Epps knowing what kind of slaveowner Epps was

But really, all that moving and acting it out was great to hear the result of all that work! I wouldnt think Smaugs voice came from him.

The slave master was a good man in a bad time. Ideology was different. But he was a slave to the principles a white man should live by. The devil is cunning but God always prevails.

looking at behind the scenes stuff like this makes me really wonder why was the original voice of Kratos Terrence Carson from the god of war games really fired? saying he was too short for the role makes less sense when you see actors like this bring a dragon to life

Sometimes I wonder is people like Ford were forced into it in a way. You cannot be the only plantation without slaves and only employed workers. Not only would you be marginalised by the locals, but there is no way you'd be able to compete commercially with those with lower labour costs and you'd loose the plantation to another slave owner anyway.

It was a matter of being competitive. Not all slave owners were sadistic and cruel, some even paid their slaves others even educated them, sadly it was a way of life and life is grey never black and white

Nah, ford was very much in the business of slavery and didn’t apologize for it, but he wasn’t a sadistic psychopath like Epps. He treated his slaves like how we would treat a house pet. That doesn’t make his part in the business any better. At the end of the day, they’re all still slave masters, and they chose money in exchange for human suffering.

I keep thinking about where he is looking while moving around like a lizard. It must be awkward but he has to be in the zone and focus on tbe process.

Ironic Paul Giamatti played a slave trader in both this movie and Planet of the Apes. He does an excellent job making you instantly hate him for his callous disregard for human life in both films.

The idea that they wanted the conversation between Bilbo and Smaug to be telepathic (presumably so they didn't have to animate reptile lips) is so appalling that it made me shudder) and I'm so glad they dropped it. Would they give a reason? Hobbits aren't telepathic, it's not hinted at anywhere else that Bilbo might be able to read minds... or would it be one of those things the filmmakers just drop in and expect the audience to accept? Thank goodness they didn't go with that idea. I would have liked Smaug to be a little more book-accurate though, in that his underside is not scaled and he covers it with jewels to protect it in what Bilbo describes as a diamond waistcoat. Bard is able to aim for the spot Smaug accidentally left uncovered.

Yeah, He should not do that accent ever again. Sounds like some yahoo from the streets making fun of somebody from that part of the country. He should stick to his British self or that generic American sound he uses for Doctor Strange.
