Haven't tried Reprapper PLA, but I do like Overture as well. Elegoo seems decent for the price, honestly, I think it might have been the cheapest filament I ever bought (since it was on sale), so for that, I was quite impressed. Thanks for watching!

Just picked up some black Elegoo PLA from Amazon and the winding looks perfectly uniform, much better than the roll you received for some reason. Going to try it out on my Ender 3 V3 SE tomorrow!

Nice! Yeah, I looked at a few other rolls, not all of them were as poorly wound, but it printed great for me on the Bambu X1 Carbon. Thanks for watching!
@henkheijmen6 күн бұрын
So far I tried Bambu, esun, tm3d, 3DJake and mostly elegoo. I have never tangling issues with either one of them, but the winding of Elegoo is by far the best of all of them. The brim separation issue is because the pla from Elegoo is inherently more flexible/less brittle, which in my opinion is a pro rather than a con. The damage from shipping is the only consistent con in my eyes, yet when I complained about it I got free spools as compensation so there is that.

@UreallydontknowАй бұрын
You probably need to dial in retraction, cooling, pressure advance, and nozzle temp on all of these. The holes are from variation in filament diameter as you print. The big problem with a lot of these cheap filaments is that the formula and diameter is not consistent from batch to batch so there is no way to know how you will get screwed over time.

Then swapped over to Cura from PrusaSlicer and the stringing was almost gone! Seems to be a slicer issue. Then swapped to an old reel of PLA from 2017 and there's no stringing at all! Are you having trouble with accurate tolerances? I have noticed a little variation here and there, but for the most part, I've found it pretty reliable. Or just laugh about it when I look at him. 😂

Haha, that's funny. Actually, the eyes actually have that dot to be printed in a separate color like a catchlight. If you look at the renders: xykit.com/collections/talondryls-journal-of-everyday-dragons-3d-printable-poseable-dragons/products/grass-hopper-wyvern-3d-printable-files it's a "white" dot, representing light. If you load the head .3MF file in a slicer like bambu studio, or prusa slicer, you can actually delete that dot if you like.

3MF can definitely be a bit finicky. That is one reason we made the video. The nice thing about them is that they allow you to keep a multi-object part as one piece for easy coloring in slicers, and also typically have a smaller file size than a corresponding STL. Thanks for watching.

Great video. Can I still use the printer's sd card to print? I would only like to use the Beagle cam for timelapse and monitoring.
@xykit4 ай бұрын
You actually put the SD card in the Beagle Cam, then plug the beagle cam into your printer via USB and the camera adds the necessary gcode to complete the timelapse. OR you can connect to the camera with your computer over WIFI by inputting the camera IP address into your web browser. You can locate the IP address through the phone app under "settings", then "camera information". The user name and password are both "admin". From the web "dashboard" tab you can upload your gcode files (after slicing) and start the print directly from your computer without the need to remove the memory card. You can also monitor the printer, and download the finished time-lapse video(s) directly on to your computer. Thank you for watching.

Personally, I prefer painted models over colored filament. You've basically got two options, expensive multi-toolhead printers like the Prusa XL or purge towers/purge dumps, like you have in the Bambu. I'd also recommend using a filler primer to help reduce layer lines. As it is, the more detailed the model, the harder they are to sand out the layer lines. Filler primer does a decent job without killing too much detail.
@xykit5 ай бұрын
Yeah I'm in agreement. I have done a bit of color printing now with the Bambu Labs printer, and the results are surprisingly good. The waste just almost doesn't make it worth it for me though, along with the added time. I think if you really want to achieve that "toy quality" color-printed is a good option, I just like the depth that painting adds.
@gaanong32195 ай бұрын
@@xykit I forgot, there’s one more option…and arguably the most difficult. Splitting the model into discrete pieces where each can be printed separately (or bulk print all parts of the same color) and then the whole thing is assembled later.
@xykit5 ай бұрын
True, you are right. That is probably one of the better options at the moment when concerning waste and print time, and correct, one of the more difficult options. We've done a few internal projects playing with this method. Splitting the model this way takes a decent amount of extra design time, as well as it becomes more difficult to make all the pieces print support-free. The more complicated the model, the more difficult the process of splitting becomes. It also adds assembly time for the end user, which some may not mind. I am curious though, what the waste amount looks like in color resin printing, like in the process Hero Forge uses? Although, that technology is still very expensive.
@gaanong32195 ай бұрын
@@xykit eventually we’ll get to the same level as standard color printers, but that’s a ways off yet. I’m not even aware of a commercial version of color resin printers.
