My oldest is not a natural speller and I feel you, it's a struggle. We started all about spelling last year and it has made improvements for sure but he still forgets the h in sh words and sometimes ch trips him up. I'm not sure why maybe he has some dyslexia or something I haven't discovered yet. He was a slower reader also but once he turned 8 and got midway through AAR2 he took off, so I am grateful for that but I feel like we are always trudging along slowly trying to nail down some of the basics with my two boys. Middle kiddo and math are not the best of friends haha and he is 8 and still working on reading fluently, but we are making progress. I never thought to try right brained stuff because it never made sense to me lol, that possum game looks fun.

Thanks for sharing about the right brain curriculum. We use Dianne Craft's Right Brain curriculum and its a gift from God! It has help my child with her "learning glitches". I am excited to hear your review on the spelling.

I am such a book junkie also, I don't feel guilty buying books, my whole family loves them. We read By the Great Horn Spoon this past year and loved it!

I know this is a year old but I’m wondering how your son liked HBL G?? 🩵
@rollingwiththerouses39188 күн бұрын
It was okay, but he is more of an audiobook kid, so I ended up letting him listen to the books i could find on audio. He got through half of it. Some of the books he liked and some he didn't care for and we listened to Story of the World Vol 1 in the car together as a family. It is a lot of reading! I would recommend this for a kid that loves reading and history.

@@rollingwiththerouses3918 thanks for sharing! We’ve done Bookshark levels D and we’re almost done with E now so we’re definitely used to lots of reading. By the time my oldest reaches this level, he’ll be doing it all in his own so I’m just trying to gauge in my head if he’ll like it! We’re taking this next school year off and doing strictly MBTP so he’ll be in 9th grade once we hit this level.

Lol that's a whole video in itself! But I am using Moving Beyond the Page Reading curriculum with my middle son. It comes with regular sight word cards but he was having a hard time remembering. As soon as I got these he looked at the card 2-3 times and remembered the word!!!

@@rollingwiththerouses3918 Oh Wow! TY for your reply. 😍🤗 Please consider making a vid on all of that. That sounds so interesting.

Super interesting!! Do you feel like the knowledge of the words transfers over to reading those words in books? My middle son is dyslexic and whoa, what a ride indeed!! Seriously shook my confidence in being a homeschool teacher!! He’s been using LOE and it’s finally clicking at almost 8yo! Are you guys still using LOE? I do feel so thankful for it because my dyslexic son really uses the rules and phonograms he learned- they are so helpful to him!! Most sight words are actually phonetic and can be sounded out! But I think whatever program dyslexic kids use, they do just need WAY more practice than average kids! Thanks for sharing these cards- I will definitely look into more!!

How fascinating are these cards. I also have a child who is almost 10 who has dyslexia. And whoa what a ride it’s been for us as well. I would LOVE to see the MBTP reading program if you ever have the chance or time to record one. I can’t find a single video on YT on it. We’re using MBTP next school year as well for my upcoming 7th, 4th and Kindergartner. It really is so hands on and fun.

Spelling connections is amazing for learning to spell with “the science of reading”. The teachers manuals are super expensive and you can generally use it without one..
