As a DIYer, what if you don't size according to code? In your example, say you connected 3/4" pipe from your water meter instead of the 1" that you're "supposed" to use? Or you use 1/2" pipe when code says 3/4". Are there actual safety concerns with this, or just a reduction in flow? I ask because I am finishing my basement and want to add a bathroom. I can easily tee off an existing 1/2" pex pipe that is currently going to a hose bib at the back of the house, however code says that I should tee off of 3/4" pipe closer to the water meter since I "can't" supply the entire bathroom with a single 1/2" pipe. This would involve >30' of 3/4" pipe installation vs 10' of 1/2" pipe. If it's a safety concern I will bite the bullet and do it by the book, however I want to minimize complexity if I can.

I want to add fireplace log set which is 65,000 at about 60ft. There is currently a 1/2" pipe feeding a basement fireplace and my stovetop. If is not possible for me to get into the ceiling and change out the pipe to 3/4" . If I don't plan to cook and have the basement fireplace on when using the log set, would I be ok to install it?

After doing some test on my own, I replaced the hot water lines to my sinks with 3/8 pex.(they were 1/2 copper) That made a world of difference, the hot water gets to the sink much faster, and I save a lot of hot water. 2 sinks are about 15 ft from the water heater, one is about 40 ft, and no problems with flow. I even had a master plumber say it would not work, but it works great. I did run an individual line back to the water heater for each as I know trying to run 2 sinks off of a 3/8 line could be a problem. Sometime you have to think outside the box to make things better, I did, and now I save money and time every time I need hot water at the sink.

What if the vacuum breaker won't budge?? I can see the gasket looking like it's prolapsed 😅 so I know that's the problem, but it will NOT back out of the spigot.

How do you get the pex-b crimp ring to fit over the thicker walled pex-a tubing? Are there pex-a specific crimp rings available, HD doesn't seem to have them. Or, can you crimp a pex-b barbed insert, and on the "b side" a crimp ring, and on the "a side" an expansion ring?

Question; when repiping a small house, can I use a small water manifold,say 5 outlets off the main line and use one 1/2” line to an entire bathroom (example), then add another manifold to supply all water faucets to that specific bathroom? Essentially one main manifold and x number of sub manifolds in each required room. Should I use 3/4” or 1/2” for the run to each room? Thanks.

I'm 17 years old about to be put into plumbing, and this video helps a lot and helps keep important things in mind, and I can go on the job site a lot more confident now. Ill be starting next week hopefully, I was gonna be an electrician but there is too many cool trades to choose from, and plumbing is just one of them.

So whomever put in the hose bibs, didn't include any water shut-off valves since they connect to PEX on the opposite end. So now I have to turn off the water to the house in order to fix the 2 bibs on the house. Such a pain.

Ive been in the plumbing industry for 20 years no started almost out of high school. I tried concrete work, nope those guys yell too much for no reason and they are lazy up until the concrete shows up. Then I tried commercial roofing, advanced farily quick became co-foreman at the age of 19. But I looked around at the old timerz and man their bodies and minds were destroyed. So be luck I got a call about digging some holes inside a building, and the only thing they told me was dig until i see pipe. I had no idea what i was doing but the time i was done I had hand dug a 10x8 hole in the ground in the same size of room. The job was done got paid cash that day with a phone call from the owner asking me to come on full time. The rest is history. My point is that plumbing is a choice for some of them and for the good ones its a way of life. This guy talked about alot of good points that the new generation really need to pay attention to that you dont get a medal for just showing up. Work hard and earn it feels hell of alot better than donations. The best advice I got was "Jonny you cant plumb a whole house is one day take your time and make it right, the speed will come later." My advice is my moto PLUMB THE WORLD!!!!

I'm 28 and looking into a trade. Plumbing seems interesting to me. I want to pass on my knowledge to my sons, give them something they'll be able to use for when they're older. I Want change. I want stability. I want a life for my kids so they don't have to struggle. I brought them in this world. Thank you for this video. The only thing I think I'll have issues with. Is math. IT'S NEVER been my strong suit. That and I barely touched tools in my life. I'll have to learn every tool from the ground up. I pray that I can find an apprenticeship, and they're patient with me. One thing I can say about me with confidence, is that I'm humble and can accept humility like no other. No ego, and I'm a sponge. Please pray for me brothers and sisters.

That grease cleaning head is about useless, while it helps a tiny bit, it is very poor performance. If it didn't spin so fast, it would do a better job.

In our old house it has 3/4 inch line. The line from meter in house to about 25 ft is 3/4 and changes to 1 inch. The line is in basement and feeds one floor. Off the 1 inch line it changes to 1/2 inch. Only one full bath and a kitchen. This makes no sense to me. Shouldn’t it be 1 inch if any to 3/4 to half inch. Why in middle of run did thry start from meter with 3/4 than switch to one inch and then go to half inch?

Very good video with the pros and cons, but you didn't address the elephant in the room. Anyone who is familiar with Aldyl A (the plastic pipe used in hundreds of thousands of miles of natural gas pipeline) or Polybutylene (the grey plastic pipe commonly installed in houses between late 70's and mid 90's) would rightly be concerned with the longevity of any plastic pipe. Both products failed catastrophically with enormous costs to the customer. So my question is - does either type of PEX come with a warranty that is at least as good as copper?
