I own and have field tested the 50-400 for my landscape work. The lens is a keeper for its macro like capability and the amazing focal range. The only drawback is a little softness in the corners at 400mm. It gets better as you stop down but not to the level of my f2.8 lenses.
@EasyTigerCreativeКүн бұрын
That’s awesome to hear! Having macro capabilities is always a plus!
@bizpixvegas7651Күн бұрын
Your side-by-side image comparisons are fantastic and very telling. It seems to me the 50-400 has better contrast and perhaps color. I don't know if this is because of color grading in post or that is a real difference. It seems to me the sharpness is a wash. Perhaps a little pixel peeping on still images might reveal the differences. I had the 70-300 and sold it in favor of the 50-400. Although it is a heavier lens, I enjoy the longer reach and the macro capability throughout the range. I really liked the lightweight 70-300. I think the 50-300 is a better lens for its additional range and all the other goodies the 70-300 did not have.
@EasyTigerCreativeКүн бұрын
It might’ve been honestly from putting my variable ND filter at times since I also wanted photos in the moment and video so just kept it on to go back and forth! But honestly they’re both pretty sharp otherwise and consistent!

No comparison. 50-400 all the way. I use the 50-400 on my Sony A6700 so it’s a 75-600 and I’ve gotten some of the sharpest images I’ve ever taken on it. It’s also not heavy at all. I’ve carried it in my hand at the zoo several times for 7-8 hours at a time with no issues. I own a dozen lenses for my a6700 and the 50-400 is my favorite of the bunch.

@@rpizzo68 I carried it on two all day Zion National Park shoots as well. I did a lot of handheld shots including a bunch of macro shots. It is heavy but compared to the 150-500, it is light!! I have tried to carry both. The 50-400 is tolerable but you feel the weights of the 150-500 after a short while. To be fair both are relatively light compared to a 400 f2.8 or a 600 f4 lens. In the UK this lens is currently priced at £820.. For the same money you can get the Sigma 100-400, which would be my option if I had to choose one. My thinking being that I want a telephoto for the extra reach not for a wider focal length. However, at the US price (£630 converted) I'd agree this is a very interesting lens considering it's portability!
@EasyTigerCreative4 күн бұрын
Isn’t the sigma a massive and heavy lens though? I just know sigma lenses are super big haha and plus you get more range with the Tamron at 50-300. It really is what works best with everyone’s budget and their needs but yea I get it too haha I wouldn’t mind a 150-600 from either brand honestly.
@pietro-viecelli4 күн бұрын
@@EasyTigerCreative Yes, both Sigma 100-400 and Tamron 50-400 are heavy lenses! haha I guess I just accept they're beasts and there's no getting around from that.. In my personal case, as I have the Tamron 28-200 I feel like 200-300 is not enough of an extra reach for me to want to swap lenses (yes, I'm that lazy 😂) and crop mode on the A7R3 gets me to 300mm for free, albeit with a drop in resolution. I used to own the Tamron 150-600 back when I had a Canon 6D but since changing to mirrorless I haven't got myself a tele lens yet.
@EasyTigerCreative4 күн бұрын
@@pietro-viecelli that makes sense haha the reason I like the 50-300 is it’s so light and has vibration compensation so makes it nice haha the 50-400 is a bit bigger sadly haha But yea jf you have a 28-200 then you wouldn’t. We’d the 300 range much specially with the extra crop capabilities from higher megapixels of the a7r cameras haha

I sold my Tamron 70-300 (which I loved) in favor of the 50-400. I think the new 50-300 is a better lens optically. However, with the 50-400, I gained more range, stabilization and macro capability. Not to mention keeping the same filter size! Yes the 50-400 is heavier but paired with my 17-28, are the only two lenses I brought to a day of landscape shooting at Zion NP. I got a variety of images and the results and the range (17-400mm!) were fantastic. I knew what the 17-28 could do but was blown away by the images the 50-400 produced.

It seems like you have yourself covered very well with those focal ranges to be honest so definitely can understand why you’re happy with it all! I got rid of 50-400mm lens, it's unacceptable for me at 400mm. My older Sigma 100-400mm was a lot better. I hoped this 50-300mm would be better optically, but looks like it's not.
@bizpixvegas76512 күн бұрын
@@USGrant21st I agree that it is not as good as say at 300mm but I find it more than acceptable when stopped down to f8 or f11. Wow, what an interesting take. I want to agree with you, I really do, but I also feel like unless you have the platform to create for brands, you're most likely to never get that opportunity. I think a lot of photographer and videographers are choosing the brands that are in their image very carefully, especially the ones that actually care about their art and aren't just doing it to do it. Sorry I'm overexplaining I think. The point I'm trying to make is that maybe some photographers really wanna shoot nike wearing models, and if the photo comes out good, they want the recognition from the brand, more so than any type of payment. Let me know what you think, I like the way you explained your thought process, and enjoyed the video very much.
@EasyTigerCreative7 күн бұрын
There’s nothing wrong with tagging the brand you want to maybe get attention from. But from a realistic standpoint, how many people are tagging these brands to really get any traction for them to see your things though? Most of these brands just want to get free content from users rather than just higher out good content creators so that people can actually make a living. It’s a love-hate relationship with it all there’s a lot of pros and cons like I’ve said, but for me personally I prefer tagging the brands that genuinely have wanted to support me when it comes down to photography and videography. Getting recognition from the brand is great, but that doesn’t pay the bills into today society. From my touring as a musician experience exposure doesn’t pay the bills. But that’s just me. I appreciate you watching and your comment! Thank you for being here 😁❤️

Interesting topic. I always think about this subject when I am in a store and see an expensive t-shirt with a big logo on it. So they want me to pay $30 for a t-shirt that should cost no more than $10 and I advertise their brand for them for free while paying triple for the item. Tagging is the same thing just the electronic version. I almost never wear any logo items unless I really believe in the brand and want to give them free PR which is rare!! I get a lot of promo t-shits (Nikon, Sony, etc.) I wear those around the house. The only exception is Tamron. I wear their stuff when I am out all the time!!

I totally agree! I’m very against logos on my clothing to be honest unless is something that I kind of have to wear. I have a sponsorship with a brand from my Tennis Academy since a sponsor the Academy and myself so that’s the only time that it makes sense for me because it’s a mutual agreement and we both benefit from it. But other than that, I rarely like to get things with big logos. I’ve been blacking out my cameras, logos whenever I’m out and about cause I don’t want to see what cam it is for safety reasons as well. So when it comes to posting on social media.
