Hi Turner, I'm still wondering how you can get the mandrel out of the pressure vessel once the filament winding is done. Any tips on how the mandrel gets removed? Also any thoughts on the liner buckling due to the applied winding load in case you do have a liner in your design. Thank you

Amazing illustration of filament winding. How did you get the mandrel out of the pressure vessel? Have you considered a thin liner in your tank design? Thanks very much.

Hello Turner. Thank you for your video! I am posting my team and I own one of these winders are having trouble setting up the code. We are having issues with the head diving in to soon on the ends and with the head retracing in a non-curved path. Would it be possible for you to share the sets and pattern g-code for this run? This is a dry winding process. Could you please show winding with epoxy? It will look different.

I have found you want the least amount of tension possible. You dont want it too tight.

This time is manufacturer is not demolded the mandrel is part of the structure. I think this mandrel is used only for example.

I still don't understand linear acceleration. I tried to experiment with it using G1 command, but there wasn't visible acceleration. Please, can you describe it more? Thank you

uwofracture I would avoid polyester resin. You want Epoxy based resin only.

Can I change wind angle at a certain spot on the mandrel and then go back to the original wind angle? Stan Peters

Each filament layer has a constant winding angle. To change winding angles, you need to start a new layer. For example, you can wind 3 layers of with layer 1= 75 deg winding angle, layer 2= 55 deg winding angle, layer 3 = 35 deg winding angle, and so forth

This is a great benefit indeed. It helps lower the resin content and thus gives you a lighter product.

***** Hi Nicholas - The trace button/function will move the carriage and delivery head at slow speed to the beginning Z value (right hand side) of the mandrel, then pause and wait for a button press, then move to the last Z value (left hand side) of the mandrel at slow speed - and thats it. Its basically to see how well your measurements and the actual mandrel are aligned - there is no winding or mandrel rotation taking place in the trace mode - only carriage movement.

Hi Alex: You can buy the 4-axis X-winder filament winder model 4X-23 in March 2015. You can also buy the 2-axis 2X-23, then later buy the upgrade kit to the 4-axis 4X-23

Super cheap but accurate tension measurement. Fish scale. Found a digital for $10 through google but even a digital may be too much sugar for a cent.
