The worst part of being a poor player from a country on the periphery of capitalism is that in addition to struggling to pay the monthly fee and having to learn how to get around the problems of an unstable connection, we also have the language barrier. I started this with my Druid first fight, insane heart race, blown off the platform with first golem, then 2k gold In repairs later I got to phase two, died on stupid lines and adds and then had my dead corps blown off the platform, 3k gold in repairs later I’m now getting to phase two easier but, I’m seeing how much damage people put on varis so quick, and I don’t know what I’m not doing as I keep dots on varis all the time, and he takes for ever to go down, even if I bear him down, still takes for ever, so much going on in phase two… I walk out of the game room, wife asks, “ did you get your teddy bear thing?” Me: No…😢 I’m not worthy 😞 Wife: awww… Me: mmhmmm 😢

🤣🤣 I love this so much mate, this is pretty similar to things at my house in Legion when this was first around. Stick at it though mate, you will get it eventually and when you do, it'll be the best thing you've done in WoW. Stick at it!!! The more you do it, obviously the calmer you get in that phase 2, and that's the huge thing, being able to chill in those final parts.

Lots, 2 choices of hero talents between Deathbringer and San'layn, currently San'layn crazy gameplay altering into a degen feedback loop and OP, Deathbringer fantastic design, likely to be overlooked due to the haste stacks provided by San'layn.

I wasn't all that wowed at first glance when I first saw Deathbringer. Maybe it wasn't hitting the "class fantasy" vibes too well for me. However seeing it laid out like this, AND seeing the visuals. I do like it. I love the Argus-esque big sweeping scythe that seems to cover 70% of the pack when triggered. Now, the Elephant in the room. San'layn vs. Deathbringer. In its current state Deathbringer is gonna struggle to find its place. Honestly, I think there needs to be more "outward facing" discussion on a topic such as this. Feels better to have open discussion and get DK's views, ideas with merit to them. Because, direct feedback is one thing, but feels way too quiet. Especially after the "fuss" started with the initial incarnation of Oracle Priest, though I guess they knew going in that tree would be divisive. Anyway, back on topic. I can see why it's attached to VB, not LB or IBF. Thematically, it makes sense.. Vampires, Vampiric Blood is the Logical path. I'm even fine with Hero Talents pushing you to take certain talents, HOWEVER I'm against it when it's this rigid. Push me to take certain things, fine.. but allow some flexibility. You mentioned tying it to Lichborne, thematically that's totally illogical. However, could be fixed with one easy trick. Essence of the Blood Queen (Replaces Lichborne) <Lichborne perks> <New EotBQ perks> Some of the hero tree could still have flavorful ties within VB, but turbo-loading it with everything just feels unhealthy for the spec. In a similar vein, you mentioned Bonestorm. I'd love to see it get some use again. I do wonder if it'd find more use if it were moved up the tree, or just straight up baseline. Because, for as much as I love the ability it is functionally a dead talent. Its so rarely if ever taken. Thematically it'd be the perfect fit for Deathbringer if the tree had some kind of interaction. Bones and death are pretty intrinsically linked. Heck, I'm pretty sure Marrowgar itself has a big ol' Death Scythe Similarly, make Blooddrinker baseline.. give us a short-ish range ability that lets us heal when we can't touch the boss. (Thinking Painsmith in SL, Nymue even, in recent memory) Our whole shtick is taking damage and healing it back, we're heavily punished for being away from something we can't Death Strike. Not to mention being out of D&D. Blooddrinker, even Consumption with a little retooling for Vampiric animation and maybe mechanics are perfect tie-ins for San'layn. Much like Tombstone and by extension Shattering Bone, alongside Bonestorm are for Deathbringer. I don't think they really need to reinvent the wheel where adjustments for San'layn are concerned, but outside of my previously stated favour for San'layn class fantasy.. As it stands I don't see myself playing much Deathbringer, as fun as it seems it could be. I just REALLY hope their solution isn't to just take a giant sledgehammer to it.

Yeh I get the thematic disconnect with linking it to Lichborne or IBF but if they won't touch essence stacks, then it's the only way it would slow down the cycle and allow some form of talent flex, which was why I suggested it. They could very well create a new San'layn ability to press to be honest to work in with the tree, much the same way they did with Deathbringer, which would be yet another option if they aren't opening to altering the essence stacks. Agreed with Bonestorm =( Deathbringer with the 2nd scythe that rolls out on the free marrowrend looks amazing, I actually love how they nailed the theme for this tbh I'm not sure if you mentioned it on the San'layn video, but think Blooddrinker baseline with that would fit so very well. I don't think they need to scrap and reinvent San'layn either, honestly just either adjust the amount of stacks on it would be the best way of going about keeping it in check, the issue for me still remains it's kinda boring playstyle and misses the thematic mark of I'm a super vampire but at least it wouldn't be OP. Time will tell, I'd love as you said to hear a little more thought and communication from the devs around it though.

And, like you said there's nothing stopping them from just making another button like Reaper's Mark..just San'layn-ified. Yeah, if they're not going to touch Essence stacks, then tying it to a cooldown that isn't so hard driven by CDR is THE step to take to keep it in check. I feel they've nailed some aspects in San'layn with the life leech-y aspects and a vampiric theme, but there's a lot missing that makes it complete. Gameplay being one such thing. I had hoped they'd give some kind of gameplay "impact" in the tree, but outside of the degen gameplay loop it looks to be more of the same, which is rather disappointing really. Coupled with munching your own plagues outside of the Gift of the San'layn window. On a lighter note, I think you're right with the thematics of Deathbringer, heck..a free Marrowrend with big scythe is always welcome. I can't remember if I mentioned it on the San'layn video but I'm in agreement about Blooddrinker being baseline.

Just around San'layn and the how to possibly fix it conversation, to expand I will likely do a video about this if we see no action. Switching it off VB to LB or IBF will help if they aren't willing to change anything around essence behaviour. Speaking with Mandl around this, at the moment he thinks the best thing we could see regarding balance would to be reducing essence stacks, think how they change the tier set in shadowlands from 75 to 40 stacks etc so hopefully we see something like this, Deathbringer is so good to play with, really want to see it have just more than a "chance" to maybe be seen in a raid environment.

Here's hoping Blizz gives us a reason to be able to choose Deathbringer over San'layn in at least some circumstances - seeing some of the animations in this video as well, Deathbringer also just looks so visually pleasing but, like you said, you can't really say no to functionally permalust. Hopefully whenever Blizz gets to these DK revamps we see some movement happening here.

They've honestly done such a tremendous job on this hero talent system for Deathbringer I'm very much hoping the same thing. I think San'layn still has a long way to go in giving the same level of thematic impact too, spawning some huge vampire wings or something like that I feel would go along way from that pov, and hopefully they do something with either the ability link or essence stacks so we can see these 2 fall a little closer in line with one another for choice.

I'd love to see an ability where we attack using some of our health as well. Like some old school hemomancy stuff where maybe there is an ability that costs 10-20% hp to do some damage and have an extra effect. Could even scale with being lower on health creating a cool risk/reward type of spell. You know, something to freak the healers out even more 😂

Actually in this context, it's the Vampiric Strike icon which changes from Heart Strike during Vampiric Blood and with Procs from Sanguine Scent.

@Darkmech well ok then. But it's literally the visual icon for the original death knight blood strike icon. So what I said is still technically accurate , it would be a case of reusing old icons. In MoP patch 5.0.4 it was made into unholy spec. Blood strike icon was removed in WoD patch 6.0.2 according to wowwiki or wowhead if I'm not mistaken.

I like having to place it. I personally think blood dk is supposed to be intentional in where you hold your ground so to speak. It would be way more cringe if we did not get grips to fix where mobs are standing. I do hear the compliant tho, I just think it takes away choice to have it attached to you. Man, I've always had this headcanon since Legion of my BDK being this San'layn Vampire Tank. So, thematically I'm on board. As much as I'm not sold on "Blood Beasts" they just seem like re-flavoured juicier blood worms. Gameplay loop though, not so much. It sounds like such a gross way to play. I'm not to against defensives used offensively, for instance the Lichborne radiating Death Coils.. that Torghast talent, while BDK has little to no synergy within the tree for Death Coil (something that could be remedied via talent options perhaps), said Coils could self target as you're treated as undead so you have free healing and a touch of damage. HOWEVER. We already have DRW filling that "offensive defensive" role, we don't need to turn VB offensive just for the hell of it. The degeneracy is driven harder by the fact we have stuff to reduce VB's cooldown faster, in Red Thirst. (To be clear I'm not advocating removal of Red Thirst) But it's hard to argue that isn't a big contributor to the degen loop. Furthermore, isn't the season two set bonus basically a "San'layn lite" experience, iirc it has VB as a key part of the tier bonus. If it has to be gameplay and not purely cosmetic, surely there's a better way of reaching the same goals from a Hero Talent class fantasy PoV. Look at Lana'thel, Kelseth and so on. If Rider of the Apocalypse can hit that mark, they can do better than this. Without going to overboard, give blood as a default class more vampirism feel than just "blood and gore/bones" feel, and you'll have a better starting of point. Blooddrinker baseline fits the vampirism theme, heck a talent that turns Death's Caress into blood drinker would be.. different, without adding extra buttons. (I miss using it, and having PvE Dark Simulacrum spell stealing ;_; ) Blooddrinker seems to never get any use anymore. Consumption feels similarly dead as a talent. To cap off this wall of text (sorry), I really wish they'd fecking do one with all this root in one place compounding effects inside D&D. I've made peace with the slow inevitable end, coming to face you that is the BDK fantasy as they'd have it, but the root in one place D&D is a far from pleasant experience. Movement, M+ guess I'm out of D&D now till I can drop a fresh charge. Forced I have to be away from the boss, I can't smash it in the face movement, Raid. Just give us the old auras back, if you can give warriors Stances and Paladins their auras. You can grant them to DK's. Or just retool the Necrotic Aura, Decomposing Aura, <insert Frost one> to be PvE auras, have whatever spec thematics they desire, allowing switching if you talent into alt paths. But they all have D&D effects around the player in a given area. Okay, I'll stop now, I just love BDK, I'm so sorry for this. 😂

I feel like even if they change up the BDK baseline I don't have great hopes for this. I don't mind the spinning plates I have right now, I actually enjoy managing the resources we have. What I don't want is them to dumb down that stuff so they feel it is acceptable to make San'layn more plates to spin when the problem really is that it's just not fun. I really like the class fantasy so I'm hoping they end up doing some major reworking on it. Tired of this proc a buff now spam heartstrike to keep it going gameplay.

@@Darkmech I was sort of hoping more supportive play or thematic like VB giving an aura to your team like WC3 dreadlord or a bite mechanic like blood quee where you could bite a fellow player to give them a damage buff and if they return the bite before the buff ends then maybe it gives you a shield. May not be great for mythic plus but at least in raid you could time it so your off tank could get a damage boost and then pass back to you for the next tank buster. Really I think I'll take anything else at this point lol

Yeh mate, I think it's a good start to build from something (as long as they do) I was chatting to Mandl about it, and even just moving it from VB to Lichborne would change the degen gameplay around it, change the hero talent from IBF reduction to LB reduction etc. But it doesn't help the thematic sense of the spec/play or hero talents. So I don't know to be honest!!

Thanks for the video Dark! As a quick aside, one thing I haven't seen really talked about is just how gorgeous those icons are for the Hero Talents, both for DK in San'layn and Deathbringer but also other speces like Priest's Voidweaver. Art team always knocks it out of the ballpark but these are especially gorgeous artpieces that I'm just not seeing get the recognition they deserve. On the actual topic though, while I love the vampiric aesthetic of San'layn in Blood, it seems in it's current state kind of like Breath in Frost - super powerful when you pull it off but with an annoying play pattern it encourages and limited flexibility. I hope Blizzard at least opens the options up a bit and brings Deathbringer up slightly to be able to compete with San'layn, or it'll feel bad having to lean into a degen play pattern for that sweet haste.

Art team ALWAYS play, like 10/10 they have never dropped the ball, and this you're correct is no different. I think that's a valid comment though and I'll highlight that on other socials re the images, thank you. Yeh it's super early in the state of play, but San'layn is just going to dwarf Deathbringer as an option because who would give up that much haste basically. I'm not so much against the playstyle aspects of it, as I am the disparity between the 2 trees, think that's going to be the biggest challenge.
