This "forced redemption" happens because every playable character is trapped in the chat and friendship system with the Traveler, for a character to be playable they need to be on good terms with them and not an enemy. If Dottore becomes playable, at least he should be a "saner clone" who seeks revenge on his creator. Dottore is very intelligent and powerful, he is always one step ahead of us, so we need another him to defeat because Genshin loves making "Me vs another Me". The Clone could have to make a truce with the Traveler so that he can leave to seek a new purpose in life, correct his creator's mistakes or help the Taveler defeat the Fatui and etc. There are several ways to make a decent redemption for Dottore, but it will depend a lot on Hoyo's writing.

i think the fatui agent visions damage them as well but not as much as normal humans as they have been experemented on

I'm just finished Inazuma Archon quest in this week. What can i say is Inazuma is entertaining enough as long as you don't paying to much attention to details. I can even say that Inazuma's story is far more entertaining than Mondstadt and Liyue. But keep in mind that i only say entertaining and not better. And i think this is the reason why Inazuma is very popular back then, only few players outside millions realized how dumb Raiden's decision to lock Inazuma based on her view of immortality, how dumb Kokomi's strategy to let her troops getting infected with Delusion, how dumb Ayaka's decision to protect her status and not directly involved on the field even after the savior that saved Mondstadt and Liyue just comes to her land, how dumb people of Inazuma reacting to Raiden even after everything she was done. The only good character in this story is Yae Miko and Teppei, they truly help the MC, besides their good characterization.

this reminds me of how they handled kokomi vs alhaitham. both are supposed to be smart, but kokomi is underwhelming compared to alhaitham. alhaitham is SHOWN being smart, having an active role in the archon quest, while kokomi is just described to be very smart and that's about it. i always really liked kokomi and i thought her character had so much potential but fell flat in the end. maybe they can do something interesting with a second character quest but i doubt that'll happen sadly

Yoimiya is hero. Nilou is a princess. I don't particularly like either of them, but I appreciate both character types. Your suggestion is fundamentally flawed. Every character must be unique in their own way. The rest is up to your own perspective.

i pulled Yoimiyas kinda useless C1 when i coulve pulled Raidens very useful C1. Thats how much i love Yoimiya. I also love Nilou, but only her Design.. AND I WAS JUST 5 PULLS AWAY TO GET HER ON HER LAST BANNER :,) now i have a Emilie who has a Bad Design (her Rat Hair ruins everything)

This shows how Natlan, being a nation of war, is going to be treated since Hoyo showed that trailer of absolutely nothing going on. They care about cuteness and beauty over reality or current situations they "plan" on showing.

to be honest i see nilou as an "Everyone loves me character" and yoimiya as a girl next door character and i kind of lump hu tao and navia in with it as well because i see them as girls who are just doing their own thing without really needing help from the traveler

If he's playable I suspect they'll make one of his clones be playable. Specifically one that was experimented on to have empathy and wants to be redeemed. I expect the clone to have his personality intact with few changes

I have a theory that one of the segments of dottore will be playable. Instead of the evil dottore we will get a young genius boy( like a albedo 2.0).

I think they should make villains playable, look at honkai star rail, lots of morally ambiguous and questioning characters like Ruan Mei and Sparkle. And in genshin? Not. Enough. So I'm looking forward to playable Dottore and really hope they won't redeem him, it'll ruin him completely, you can make him neutral, but not redeemed like Wanderer.

Nilou felt more like a tool for the narrative in Sumeru rather than her own individual person. Nilou was the embodiment of what the Akedemiya was trying to squander, and that was her only purpose, and therefore, after the Sumeru conflict was over, her story hadn’t been given somewhere to go.

I would prefer dottore being killed in the main story like signora than him becoming good. I am no big fan of his, but i would hate him even more if he pulled a "sorry mb chat im not evil anymore"

i really hope he is playable. i love villains and am currently trying to pull for all the harbingers. however if him being playable means a redemption arc, then i'd be happy with him staying as the evil menace we know and love.

I need people to realize characters having their backstory revealed ≠ redemption arc. We don't even know Dottore's backstory fully to judge his character. Backstories usually serve as a way to understand characters. Nahida asks him " Like you said, it's difficult to make peace with yourself. Being as smart as you are, have you managed to do that?" and it's the first time he doesn't come up with a snarky response. It's clear he's in conflict with himself. We are talking about a man who divided his consciousness into pieces to understand himself. I think there's gonna be a big reveal about who/what he really is when the time comes and we will be able to understand his character. I don't think this will excuse his actions just like how Wanderer's backstory doesn't excuse his actions. It will be there as an explanation for his character. As a day 1 player I remember the days Scaramouche was treated as a demonic spawn and people would say he wouldn't be playable even husk of opulent dreams mentions how he would hit his subordinates just to see the terror and helplessness in their face. 😭Now he's considered as one of the best written characters in genshin and hoyo keeps expanding his character in event stories so I don't think hoyo cares whether their ex villains are hated or not. 🙌

I can't really see him being playable. I think the most likely way to make him playable would be playing one of his segments but with how unredeemable Dottore is, his segments can't be all that different from him. Not to mention with the other consistency issues his segment being playable would cause. Unless hoyo makes something with time travel, but even then that might cause issues with the timeline

Nilou's SQ was a perfect chance to show how important art is and expand on the conflict of academic vs arts. Or maybe a more laid back but in depth exploration o how the theatre shut down will effect her personally would give us much more information about her. My problem with her is just that I don't know much about her and the game doesn't encourage me to know more about her.

Personally, I think dottore will die, either killed by Wanderer or someone else (possibly traveller). I don't believe Aether/Lumine would make an alliance with him after just making one with Wanderer, and being friends with Collei too. We need real villains in this game that aren't morally ambiguous like some fatui harbingers or our sibling, and he can fill that role.

I had this conversation with a friend back when we didn't know he had clones of himself. We both agreed that it would be weird to have him playable. When this whole thing with the clones came out my friend messaged me and said: "they're gonna pull a Doofus Rick aren't they? There will be a friendly clone that will be the playable one 💀" Only then I realized that they both are mad scientists with the same hair colour

The thing with Dottore is that they’d probably get a crazy amount of money for him but like. as you said the redemption arc would likely be horribly botched but also isn’t his model the npc male one? I honestly can’t tell

Fascinating analysis. I find it amazing how polarizing villains are - either you love or hate them on average (like I enjoy Childe but on average really dislike Scara but adore Arlecchino), interesting to see what draws us to them. Your larger point is how villains and their lore and complexity draw us in...but redemption arcs often are not handled well or to their genuine potential, especially for playable characters - amazing to get to play a real villain and the implications that would bring to the game. Our hope is for it to not be forced, out of character, or to ruin them, as sincerely redeeming Dottore would do to him. I see no way to truly redeem him in a manner that would make it realistic, except for your timelapse hypothesis. Also for playable characters, I hope Capitano becomes one and yet I'm torn...for instance, I can see him being conflicted and/or for his loyalties to easily flow between numerous alliances yet I'd hope he would remain a morally neutral "grey" character that keeps you guessing - in this way, I could see it working for his character, but for them to make Dottore suddenly a "good guy" would make no sense and be a detriment. I hope your suggestions are taken into consideration! Really intriguing video with lots to consider! Always appreciate how much thought you put into your videos!

Honestly i hadnt thought of the chabce he would possibly make a new segment, he said it takes a lot of years & resources to do so, but once you mention it, it sorts does make sense. Tbh if it doesnt happen, i wouldnt be surpised if his main reason to "side" with the traveler is how Kaos from skylanders did it. How Kaos has a playable version, but it really isnt truly kaos but a clone, but then he is playable because he sides eith the skylanders because he wants to one up himself, of course Kaos as a character is overly comical, but seeing how our current Dottore killed all the clones, a new clone may know & be weary. Thats my thought on the clone route you mentioned

I think somehow they will have a cringy redemption arc for him, and then make him playable. But I hope they leave him as a evil villain.

Before watching: I don’t think Dottore will be playable. I, actually expecting him to appear in Natlan again and possibly die. Not that I hate him I just think that will happen. Also I love your videos!
