Frustrating as heck to see that this is the only video on KZfaq with a Sitar Special. In my teen years, back in the 80's, I had acquired a Sitar Special from a local shop in Chico, CA; a pre-made sailplane in fantastic shape. At the time, it was set up to be a 4-channel glider, which I set up with my Futaba FP-T4NL (pre-Conquest). Regrettably, I was never able to find a place to fly it. Later, I lost that plane in a storage accident. But later acquired two more NIB Sitar Specials; an 84" & a 100", both I plan to build in the near future. Anyway, as for videos; as popular as this sailplane was back in the late 70's up to the mid-80's, I never got to see one fly. And since KZfaq came about, I have yet to see a video of one flying. Regrettably, this video is of such poor quality (no disrespect intended), that it just makes it all the more frustrating... that it is the only video with this plane in it. But at least it is something.

This is a video of the original design built and flown by the Austrians. The Sitar Special was a poor mans copy with foam wings. The original model was fully molded and very light.

Should not be to difficult to put in a bigger M.R engine, then you’ll have JATO or as the WW2 Germans called it, “RATO.”

Thanks for this Greg, as a newcomer it really does help to make sense of what to expect. Right now I am still getting to grips with flying my model with the confidence needed to be able to also look at the screen regularly. The information through the phones also takes a bit of getting used to, but this video does help to make sense of it all.

Some nice flying there Greg and a well deserved 30pts on landing. Or have I forgotten how many we get for the spot, being it's been that long ago now...... Bet the CG on that flying scythe is pretty critical and well forward.

I use a Hacker A30-14L with 40A ESC and 12x6.5 prop. Get around 9 mins on 2700 mAH 4S pack. Disappointed with the thin cowling/nose-cone, it is eggshell thin and cracks. Recommend adding a layer of very light GF cloth on inside.

Glad you enjoyed it. I had intended to put a commentary on it but never got around to it. I still have the original low band Umatic video tapes and a few interviews I did with the competitors on reel to reel 1/4" audio tape but no access to a tape machine now.
