I never did like boiling water, in a fire. First you have to find a place to make the fire. Gather wood and such. Light the fire, boil the water, then wait for it too cool down before you can drink it. I will filter and use water drops.

Not sure you know, but the higher up in altitude you are, the lower temperature water boils at. I live at 6000 feet above sea level, just to the east of a spur of the Rocky Mountains. Water boils at 200 degree's where I live. So something to think about. Also neither the Sawyer Squeeze, or the Sawyer Mini will filter out viruses. It even says that on there website. Also if your going through an urban area if you have to bug out. Be warned there maybe petrochemicals or herbicide in the water source. I think the Grayl can handle those, it will filter out 99.99% of viruses, also. P.S. Another way to pre-filter water, is with a good Coffee Filter. I've used two, with powdered charcoal between them, too pre-filter water. Works great. Also gets rid of Petrochemicals. P.S.S. at 1800 feet, where you did your test. Water boils at 208.8 degree's, not 212. Just thought you should know.
@KYPrepper5
@KYPrepper5 Ай бұрын
That is why you have to boil it longer to reach that magic number of 212. I really like those milbank bags and I have one that is actually a carry bag for the Grayl. I like the Sawyer and it would be fine for the usual areas I am in but the Grayl has many advantages. I really appreciate you watching and commenting!
@longrider42
@longrider42 Ай бұрын
@@KYPrepper5 The only way, I could get water to boil up to 212, where I live, is to use a pressure cooker. My mom learned that the hard way. When she was learning how to can stuff, once we moved to Cheyenne. I could boil the pot of water dry, and it would never reach much more then say 205ish, because of the lower air pressure. Yes, I like your channel. You do a good job.

Great vid! I bought a grayl.. I been reluctant to use it yet. I THOUGHT about sampling some local pond scum water and having it tested. Iam reluctant because they claim filtering of virus too.. first vid Ive seen where a guy pumped and dumped. Does it really make it taste better?
@longrider42
@longrider42 Ай бұрын
I just looked up whether the Grayl will filter out viruses. What I got was it will filter out 99.99% of all viruses. So filter and use water purification drops, just to be safe.
@KYPrepper5
@KYPrepper5 Ай бұрын
That is my experience that it improved the taste and I am certain it is due to the carbon in the filter. If you are reluctant then I would filter some and have it tested like you said. I would prefer to be confident in what ever I am using now so that I can change if it does not work for me while I still have the ability to do so because that may not be an option in an emergency. I really appreciate you watching and asking a question!

What’s your opinion on using bank line for snare wire and fishing line?
@KYPrepper5
@KYPrepper5 2 ай бұрын
Works great for bush hooks and is why I include some of the smaller line in my little fishing kits. While it would work as a snare it is difficult to get the loop right and could be chewed through much easier and is why I like the 1/16 inch stainless steel cable as my first choice and 22 gauge wire for my second. Great question and I really appreciate you watching and commenting!

Something else that I recommend for people that is looking for a BOL and a MAG is to look into the rod and gun clubs in your area. Besides having all the facilities needed for long-term survival, they will also have at least 100 well-armed members. My club has about 250 members with a private, stocked lake and open areas that could be used for gardening and raising livestock.
