It’s appalling and disgusting. You’ll learn about Booker T. Washington, but not W.E.B. DuBois because he was too “radical”. You’ll learn about MLK, but not Malcolm X or the Black Panthers because they were “terrorists.” And even when we learn about someone - like MLK - their message is watered down poorly by whites. You always hear the “not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” King wrote later on about how he regretted that _because_ he knew how white people would cling to that and ignore everything else. You’ll _never_ learn in school that he also said “we all too often have socialism for the rich and rugged free market capitalism for the poor.” We don’t learn that because it goes against our War on ______ that has been ongoing in public schools since the 50s.
