Nowt like a nice new tent for winter, I would imagine all zipped up way too hot for summer, but 4 Season tents are for winter. Bound to protect you bigtime in the winter months. Great video Steve, and looking forward to seeing this tent put through its paces on a snowy peak soon.

Hi Cozzy and thanks for watching.🙂 There are tons of places around Edale to camp at. As well as Kinder Scout which the plateau covers 5 square miles, there's also the great ridge on the other side of the vale of Edale. You also have nearby, Bleaklow and the Derwent Valley areas. Kinder Scout is particularly good as it's the highest place in the Peak District with some great views if you camp along the edge of the plateau. Also, the place isn't patrolled, so you're not in danger of getting moved on. I hope that you have a great camp and If you have any questions about any of the spots featured in my videos, then feel free to ask mate.👍

Heyup Steve😊. Is your new Klymit insulated mat actually "insulated" . I wasnt too impressed with my original klymit insulated mat.. Mainly because it wasn't actually insulated 😂. Great video btw. 👏🫡👍🏼
@Hengists_Wild_Camps
@Hengists_Wild_Camps 3 күн бұрын
Hi Fraser. The Klymit mat is quite controversial when it comes to its insulation R-value rating. When I first bought it, I intended to use it as my winter mat only. The first time that I took it out in -2'C temps, I was cold. Klymit states that the R-value is 4.4 so I should have been warm, however, on closer inspection the actual ASTM R-value is 1.9. Klymit claim that the ASTM testing method doesn't take into account the design of the pad which allows your down (it has to be down) bag to loft up underneath you, thus providing extra insulation. My solution was to buy an ExPed R-value 5.2 mat to use during winter, and I've relegated the Klymit down to using as my 3 season pad now. My rule of thumb for using the Klymit pad, is that it's good down to temperatures of around +2'C.👍

Thanks for the comment Peter, it was especially great to learn that you're enjoying the Tarpstar. Dunno if I've ever mentioned to you, that the way I pitch the Tarpstar to guarantee what I think of a proper pitch lol, is as follows... 1) Ignore the instructions from Alpkit (even if they put the correct instructions in the bag lol). 2) Peg out each corner, getting the edges in-between as taught as possible (make sure that corners are at right angles). 3) Climb inside and stick your pole up as far as you can physically heave it, then lock it into position (this is where my method most differs from what I guess Alpkit recommends).🙂 4) Stick the other 4 pegs in along the fly and tighten all. 5) Crawl inside and attach the inner then tighten it at the top buckle. I didn't mean that to be patronising mate, just helpful.👍

I got a Geertop 1 man tent bivvy, a mozzie net with a rain fly is all it is, and at a oner it's a bit pricey, but it's the best defence against condensation I know. I use the Mountain warehouse bivvy for snatched nights on the hills, under a tarp (spring/summer, when there's little chance of rain). £25 from Amazon (mountain warehouse bivvy) pretty poor HH but on a mat under a tarp it works well. very good video bro!
@Hengists_Wild_Camps
@Hengists_Wild_Camps 10 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching mate, and for taking the time to post a comment, both are appreciated.👍 I used to own a Geertop bivvy, it was in a camouflage print and size wise it was very similar in dimensions to the OEX Phoxx 1 v2. However, the guideline attachment at the rear of the shelter came away and it continued to tear the sewing seam, so I had to return it. I like hooped bivvy's when I don't want to use a tarp, but as you've mentioned, a tarp & bivvy setup is better. Around a month ago, I did a tarp & bivvy video where I used an OEX Expedition Tarp, which cost me around £25 quid, and an Alpkit Hunka bivvy, which cost me around £20 quid. Cheap and cheerful but very effective.🙂

Thanks for watching mate. The Tarpstar has become my favourite tent. The weight v size v cost is superb. It's wind gust performance is amazing being a pyramid tent. I've had it out in 50mph+ met forecast gusts, and once my mate had his wind speed measuring gizmo which showed 48mph, both times the tent was rock solid. If Alpkit made a solid fabric inner for the tent to stop the wind chill and retain heat, then I would have used it throughout last winter, because it's the perfect shape to shed snow.👍

Thanks for watching mate, and also, for taking the time to post a comment. Both are appreciated.🙂 In the Peak District, I tend to do all my camping in the Dark Peak, in particular, what I call the holy trinity; Bleaklow, Derwent & the Kinder areas. Out of those three areas, the best place where your pretty much guaranteed not to be moved on is up on Kinder Scout. The Woolpacks is easily accessible up on Kinder, although it's a popular place and can get busy. An alternative would be to head towards Kinder Downfall and pitch there. It's still relatively easy to get to but there's less people around. Both places, which I mentioned, are on the edge path which goes around Kinder and can be easily identified on a map.👍

Thanks Watty.👍 I fired off an email to Klymit customer support, as the pad is supposed o have a lifetime guarantee. They replied that I have to send them some required info' first. However, the so called lifetime guarantee when you read the small print, says 'Limited Lifetime Guarantee', so I'm expecting some kind of 'natural wear & tear' clause to be invoked by them. Hopefully, I'm wrong and they repair it. We shall see.🙂
