Brilliant kiln opening Julia, sitting with my feet up in front of the fire on a cold, miserable winter night and all I want to do now is go and make a few more pieces, that first plate is fabulous. The bunny egg cup looks too large for a standard egg, but they would be brilliant with easter eggs sitting in them. Love the sassy lady, that's really inspirational.

So lovely to see another kiln opening pop up from you! Your spheres came out super round, have you made those in a mould? Nice concept! Big planter is nice, such a shame about the pinholes, great glaze combo, quite rustic. Love the jug! Totally agree with Nat about the arm supporting her back in the form. Very feminine. The handle shape is my favourite part. Oh saved the best till last! Sassy girl is fabbbb!!!! You can sense her energy and vibe totally!!! You definitely need to expand on this theme. Love her! Great to see you back sharing your craft, always a pleasure! Shame about the pinholes but they do seem to be contained predominately on the ivy glaze . Very odd. The mosaic wall sounds super interesting. Looking forwards to seeing that develop! Enjoy seeing the work you are currently waiting to glaze and working on. Great idea to keep teasing us with what you're working on. Look after yourself Xx

I have had pinholing with my clear on brown clay a lot. Brown clay which i like to use because glaze colours get so warm on brown clay, but that is my own preference. But i noticed that transparant on brown pinholes when its layerd on 3 times. So now i layer 1 time and its good, shiny and okay, the little sandy bits in the clay are popping out so good. So yeah, clear can do strange on different type of clays i think. ( i use Botz glazes). Curvy girl is so pritty. Wonderful vase Julia! A lot of details in there. The second vase is so pritty as well. I’ve got a slab roller too, it really helps because I have arthritis in my wrist and fingers. I’m fairly new to pottery and I’m disappointed with my kiln firings I’ve been using the preset schedules on my Ikon kiln and I’m not getting the glossy finish with my glazes I would have liked . I think I need to hold the final temp for ten or fifteen minutes what do you think ? I love watching all your glaze combos I’ve watch your vlog from the beginning Sandra
@ceramicsbyjulia8552Ай бұрын
Hi Sandra, thankyou for watching and supporting me 🙏 I do my own schedule as I didn't like the preset ones that came with my Nabertherm. For your glazing there could be a few different issues, what glazes are you using? What brushes are you using? What is your kiln schedule? Usually people early on in pottery have issues with glazing, I am currently just sorting out a glazing tutorial which might be of use to you, it is very surprising how much glaze you have to apply for a good glossy finish. Fan brushes are the best kind of brush. I do a 30 minute hold on a medium speed to 1190°c but the hold isn't going to do anything if you are not glazing generously or if your kiln is not firing correctly. Do you use any witness cones to see what the heatwork was like? 😊
@sandraashby9804Ай бұрын
Oh thanks Julia for getting back to me I do use fan brushes, I’m using mostly amaco glazes, perhaps I’m not quite putting enough glaze on my pots. I bought whitness cones but haven’t used them as yet. I will get there I’m sure ❤
