Its really good he's taking this on. Loneliness is a endemic social issue now. Just him talking about honestly about loneliness helps.

The Loneliness project is complicated by poor or often absent 'communal spaces' (all weather ones). A National (Anti-Loneliness) Community Connection website (online and off line strategies). In some ways large populations tend to stimulate loneliness rather than small more connected communities. Connected Community Hubs. Also the link between unbridled Capitalism and harsh socio-economic inequalities. The significance of way too many people with Adverse Childhood experiences also promote loneliness and isolation. So you have to start with small children up to older people (all of life approach). Also the interpersonal theory of Loneliness with Attachment and Trauma issues rampant in U.K. Society. Also the ongoing rise of smaller families, the housing and especially rental market. Has there been a study about Loneliness for people renting Vs. People who own a home. Also the fade of the Church and nothing 'community wise' to replace religion. The loneliness of disabled including Autistic people are extreme. The lack of older people at University. The distancing in many employment situations. These are just a few ideas that come to mind.

I wonder if they are applying this to Autism ? As Autistic people are one of the very 'high risk' ultra lonely group. A lot of this is down to poor acceptance (not a deficit idea of Autistic people).

I make eye contact with everyone. I smile and make a little comment. I smile and say excuse me in the stores. It makes a difference in my day and I really hope in other people’s.

You seem to be suggesting that the main alleviation for loneliness is physical proximity. That was true many years ago: Now, I sense that many, if not most, people cannot be within 6 feet of another person without automatically thinking “disease”. That’s not even to mention sex. Again, I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of people think of smelly, dirty disease-carrying fluids long before they get closer than 6 feet to another. Especially of the opposite sex. Eight billion separate and incompatible agendas is where we are headed now. And “dialogue” and talk about “rights” and “safety” is only going to hasten the process. Who wants to kiss a mask worn by someone you despise? As the new saying goes, there’s no fixing this.

I am not elderly. I am lonely too. I am in my late 50s and I was living with my two cats, my mother, and my son. Then, one cat disappeared and the other one got out of the house unnoticed. We never found him. I then lost my mother last month and all of a sudden, my son eloped with his girlfriend and left to live with her in another stat. I am now alone in this big house. I keep busy during the day with my job but at night it is so hard to be in this big house all alone. Loneliness can really destroy you, it can make you physically and mentally sick. It is not good to live alone.

Man oh man - I want to win the lottery to build a huge shelter with lots of land for unwanted and abandoned animals and also a place for older people who feel lonely so they can get out and go hang out - with other lonely like minded people and have enjoyable activities available if they would like and also the transportation to pick all of them up so they don’t have to worry about anything. Even a weekend escape - who knows - they just might meet the right guy or gal and enjoy the rest of their life. It’s my dream - that will take a miracle to pull off - but I am very focused on doing this . I’ve had a few miracles happen in my life - I’m focused on getting 1 more for both of these things to happen.

Hello Lil from America 😊 I know what you are going through as I’ve lived alone for almost six years now. I don’t have any transportation and I live in the country so I don’t get out much at all . I spend my days and nights watching KZfaq clips which is nice bc I get to choose my own interest and I have two cats so they keep me company. I crochet sometimes and that passes up a lot of time and I cook at times but not a lot as I’m not a big eater, I’ve often thought that we lonely people should have a website to communicate with each other on . That might help some , just a thought , the Lonely Hearts Club might be a good name for it lol 😂 anyway I hope you this message finds you well and less lonely maybe you can mention this idea to someone that could get it set up as I feel it would help some people to just be able to communicate with others when there’s nothing else to do

Loneliness is painful, it literally hurts. To you who's reading this, smile at and chat with a stranger today, especially a senior. You'll be amazed at just how meaningful that exchange is to someone who's lonely. It can make their whole day better.

One week, no friends, no phone, no contact, but he can still use everything else in his home including computer and Internet? Seriously? This is so easy. It even seems doable without social media. Does KZfaq count if you don't allow yourself to comment? I mean, he was watching TV.

My advice about ending loneliness is to learn to cherish solitude and all the neato shit you can do. Remember that KZfaq videos don't judge your clothes, your finances, or anything else you don't want them to unless you want to watch one that is aimed at making you feel inferior. People, good and bad, are a goddamned time suck full of meh to say. High price to be bored so often to achieve the highly improbable goal of finding a relationship that isn't commerce in disguise or a consolation prize in countless other ways. Odds are you don't earn enough money to manage others' expectations either. It's all a money pit and your friends will not be there for you when you're homeless. Other homeless people will be there for you, but other homeless people will also take the last thing you have if it makes the molasses of time drip any fucking faster.

Warm weather helps. Summer time. I call it it "a person has to kill the day somehow?" Meaning one has to find something to occupy their time for 12 hours. A hobby, exercise, etc., etc. Easier said than done though, but one has to plod on. In winter, when the days are short, sleep is your friend.

There is a difference between solitude and loneliness. There is also a difference between social isolation and loneliness. I think this is a peak into a bit of social isolation and loneliness. Loneliness is the perception of social isolation and solitude is deliberate aloneness for the purpose of self-improvement and connection to yourself (which I personally need). I think belonging is the key. When we believe we belong to a group, to a friendship, to a partnership or to something bigger than ourselves, we are psychologically strengthened. Even if we are living with other people, but we perceive that we don't belong, it is still very lonely. I think the elderly widows and widowers who aren't tapped into a community where they belong can really struggle with both loneliness and social isolation. Solitude gets old when you don't belong to something and to someone. We all need both autonomy and belonging.
