Visited Scone Game Fair today Charlie and watched your demo …. again! It’s a must every year. I lost my cocker a few weeks ago after 14 happy years and am very sad. Strangely you finished your demo this year saying that your dog was your best friend for a small period of your life, but for the whole of your dogs life. Made me cry but made me think and also made me a bit happier. Thank you.

I have learned a lot about dog training from you .. I feel your calm nature eases the dogs & hence their desire to please .. & the sudden horse voice makes it easy for them to learn right from wrong .. please stay the course .. most rewarding to view ..😊

I wish I'd done this more because suddenly I've now realised that my cocker isn't great at being handled.. he's 7 months now. How can I correct this as he's still a puppy so hoping to get it back so he's not aggressive when touched around the back..

Such a great overview. Our golden retriever boy is approaching 11 weeks and so far we've been bombarded by all the various YT channels that promote exactly as you mentioned: treat driven training, putting more pressure on the dog than required for the age. We've resisted all the tricks but have been training sit and stay, and thresholds. Building engagement by running away is superb advice - so far we've built that up with treats (kibble etc), paid on eye contact. When we get outside however, the garden is just too much of a distraction unless we get very high value treats out) eating grass and anything he can get in his mouth. Our 120m2 garden isn't quite like your setup but we do have the space. We've been using a lead/collar to walk him to it down the side of the house (he walks those 20seconds well, but will absolutely pull if he wants to get into some moss that's fallen off the roof, or to drive into the hedge.. we can carry him from the back door down the patio steps to the lawn however. I'm going to try to build up the engagement by running away and bouncing around as you suggest. Question: he just LOVES the hedge and that's going to be our biggest adversary on maintaining attention. Likewise the hedge gives him all his chewing distractions. What do you recommend to stop or lessen this distraction? What do you recommend if he just plainly ignores you because he's found a hedge to chew? Is it worth adding a temporary fence around the law so he can't get to the hedge? Thanks for your advice and videos.

Waffle is a great Chap. I’ve had my working cocker for a year and the struggle is real but so rewarding! What kind of slip lead do you use Charlie?

Thank you for another very good, informative video Charlie. Wish I lived closer as I really do like the way you train. I've just started introducing the sit whistle to my now 6 month old Setter x GWP puppy in the house (feeding times). She picked up the recall whistle straight away and as much as she thrives on learning, I have to stop myself from doing too much too soon (she's my first (working bred) gundog puppy). She has such natural working instincts it's almost as if she knew how to "gundog" at conception 😊
@missbabybiker2 күн бұрын
Just to add, she has already shown she has the natural ability to quarter, point and slowly stalk before freezing into a crouch almost to the ground. She loves to retrieve and has so far, recalled immediately from 2 - 300 yards (to my friend's 210.5 when she blew the recall for her dog in out local park). She appears to have inherited the best of both her Gordon Setter and GWP parents/grandparents/great grandparents etc. Such a lucky find from an accidental litter 😊

Recall is rule number 1. But how do you build up with distractions? A dog learns to associate, but how do you train a gundog to come always with directions of wild life surroundings.

These videos are a great reference for normal life with a dog. I am struggling to know how to stop a lab or any breed from chasing things like rabbits, deer and squirrels. It would be great to see how Mordor Gundogs approach this.

You are right, not everyone watches videos to the end and some people don't listen, in fact many only comment on some of the content of a video, instead of listening to all the information. Here where I live, E-collars are prohibited and it is a "divisive" debate and misunderstandings often arise and it is a subject that some people are very emotionally affected by. Thanks for a great channel to follow and thanks for all Charlie's good advice and bringing common sense and highlight that everything is not perfect when working with dogs and to say again and again, remember you get back what you give your dog and be present for your dog. Greetings from a fan in Denmark 🐶🐕 🐕 🐕 🐕 🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰

Thanks for all your great videos Charlie, Waffle and friends. I live in a City with a cockapoo . She goes into hunting mode when she picks up the scent of a cat and starts pulling on the lead. Will try this weaving in and out of cars as a distraction.

Hi Charlie, what's your thoughts on training a working dog with clicker and treat? Worth doing for a puppy/1yr old?
@coldpost998 күн бұрын
Hi! Please could you do a video showing how you stop a dog running off too far in an open field. I live in London and watched your London video with interest. Our dog (18 month old lagotto) has an OK recall in small London parks which are enclosed but in the countryside - she runs too far away (although she check in every 2 minutes or so).

Charlie I saw another guy How to remember the correctly put a slip lead on a dog .. & thought you might add it in your tips : when heeling on the left side : make the lead look like the letter P .. Right side heeling : make the lead like : the # 9 .. What do you think ?

Great video Charlie!!!Its what I tell my clients. Walks should be engaging for you and your dog. Your dog should prefer to engage with you than the environment.

Completely agree. E-collar for training things that will save a dog’s life like chasing sheep. Don’t agree with e-collars with everyday training or dog sports.

Hi I’m getting a cocker for the first time in 2 months and I’m not sure what to feed her. Should it be a raw diet? What kibble do you recommend? I’m in the US if that matters. I just want the best for her and I really can’t tell what food is good for her!
