A video showing how the spacecadetpinball folder should look when everything is copied over correctly would be really helpful, I have it running, but there's no sound at all, I'm trying with the Full Tilt! version. Edit with a small adjustment I got the sound to work, I wasn't sure if I was supposed to copy all the wav, and midi sound files to the spacecadetpinball folder, or just the entire SOUND folder with the wav, and midi sound files in it, and sure enough it was the latter lol.

I also did get one, just love the design and the computer. I can load Microsoft Windows, Linux and now with Open Core you can still use Mac OS. I can't understand why people give this computer such a hard time.

I got the exact same Mac Pro a year earlier than you did for $1100, and am just now upgrading it to Mac OS 12 with Open Core Legacy Patcher to make it last a year or two longer. I create music and create books for self publishing authors and so far the 2013 Mac Pro does everything I need.

The reason that Doom performed worse than expected was because you were using the NuBus card for the video out. By the mid 90s with the faster PCI Bus just coming out, NuBus was getting pokey. While it was faster than ISA and competitive (speed wise) with PS/2 it was slower than PCI. For best performance with Doom on that machine, your best bet is to use the Motherboard video. Those Radius NuBus cards were great for creative work in Adobe and Macromedia apps (where the QuickDraw software routines could be hardware accelerated) but they sucked for gaming.

I recently purchased a Mac Pro 6.1 (2013) 3.5Ghz x 6 Core, 32Gb, 1Tb RAM x T500 here in the UK for less than 10% of the original 2013 price. I appreciate that these are older machines, and they are no longer supported, or have any future OS support (beyond Monterey), but they are simply beautiful works of art, design and engineering. As a Mac Pro 4.1, and 5.1 owner, I wasn't convinced at the time they came out as they really did not meet the necessary upgrade specs of the professional user base of the older units (I worked in audio engineering / radio at the time) which required easily accessible drive bays, card slots for sound cards etc, but now I can simply admire them for their sleek design, and reliability etc. As a workstation it is a talking point, and I suspect I'll be using it well past it's useful life span for fun. Great to see older tech still being used.

And what are you going to do when Apple stops support for Intel Macs in a few years? Most of your reasons (which you repeated 7 times over) are easily solved with a M2 Pro Mac Mini and external drives.
@IgnoreSolutions
@IgnoreSolutions 6 ай бұрын
External drives are less elegant. The RAM capacity is far lower and everything is soldered. Repairability is low. I have an M1 Max Mac Studio now, it's nice but if the drives die it's done for. If the RAM dies, it's done for.

Hi, Im about to put the 970 pro nvme ssd in mine...looking to see the maximim read and write speeds of about 1475 write, 1525 read..the 970 pro is the best ssd for this Trash can.. trust me, with a sintech adapter ok guys 1600 Mbs speed is the max for the trash cans interface, and the samsung 970 pro 1tb is the fastest gen 3 ssd on the planet, im using the 512 gb model first...right now i have the samsung 950 pro 512 gb ssd..the write is 1280 and the read is 1350.the 950 pro uses dddr 3 ram, the 970 pro uses dddr 4. these specs are from black magic speed test..the stock ssd speed in the trash can is about 850 write, 950 read ok..roughly.Please post your black magic speed tests here guys, if you upgrade your ssd. its so easy..1 screw. torks 8...then formatt it extended journal, clean install is best

Mac Pro 6,1 (Late 2013- maxed out/+D500) is a very good machine, the design is stunning while the ports are excellent and the performance more than adequate these days for most tasks. So this Mac deserve a 3 words in Arabic رضي الله عنه

I got it to use it as an ESXi server. It's silent and neat, perfect for using it as a homelab server. Unfortunately, GPUs are always on under ESXi, and it idles about 120W. Found out that it consumes much more lower power under macOS.

I finally got a trashcan Mac Pro in December last year for a bargain price - $400 plus postage - and I ultimately upgraded it with 64 GB of RAM and a 1 TB NVMe SSD. I love my trashcan Mac Pro. I use it primarily for Photoshop CS5 and 32-bit applications and games; I keep this Mac Pro at 10.14 Mojave, as there are so many great Mac games that no longer run on modern MacOS. I recently had a blast replaying Deus Ex: Human Revolution on my trashcan, for instance. Funnily enough, while my M1 Mac Mini is, of course, much faster, more advanced and arguably more powerful than my trashcan Mac Pro, the trashcan has more reliable WiFi and Bluetooth, and from what I've heard, the NVMe storage is actually faster than in the M1 Mini. I also have a 2010 cheesegrater Mac Pro, which I've upgraded extensively: a 3.46 GHz six-core CPU (up from the stock 2.8 GHz quad-core), 48 GB of RAM (but I'm eagerly awaiting a 96 GB kit), an RX 580 video card, a 2 TB NVMe SSD in a glowing PCIe adapter, a USB-C card and a Blu Ray drive. :D

I always wanted a trash can Mac Pro but for so long they remained annoyingly expensive and I wasn't willing to pay over 1000 dollars for one. This year I got a 8 core model with 64gb of ram dual 500 graphics and a 1tb ssd for 350.00. I patched mine to Ventura and I couldn't be happier with it

I have had this keyboard for a while now, I thought it wouldn't be that great since of the price I bought it for. I was surprised of the weight, and since it doesn't really move while I am playing. Tezarre has, in my opinion, one of the best budget keebs I know.

I found this video very helpful. I was attempting to make a flag using a plane and this helped heaps by allowing me to mirror flip the opposite side! I also had an issue when it came to lighting. I haven't found a proper solution but I was able to use that branch component to increase and decrease the ambient occlusion depending on the face.

Right now, in 2023, you can buy a Mac Pro, 3.5GHz 6-Core / 32GB RAM / 512GB SSD / FirePro D500 x2, for $399. That sounds interesting to me. It's half the price of the Mac mini M1 I'm using here at work, and I might add it to my collection of cast-offs at home. :)
