By "rear end train crew," do you mean that there was a helper/pusher/banking engine at the rear of the train? Maybe I missed you saying something about that.

Somebody probably pointed this out, but the writer Adam Makos was supposed to be on this flight. He was supposed to be part of the French Club's trip but stayed behind to go with his family to Disney World. He would later write about this as part of the Introduction to his book "A Higher Call."

My dad was living in east Sacramento at the time this happened. It’s probably a 30 minute drive from where he lived to this location. Long story short, windows were shaking and breaking In his neighborhood from the concussions.

A terrible tragedy. You mention in the video that 'there was no way to get a message back to the rear of the train' prior to reversing. Normally the driver should sound the whistle to mark the change of direction, I expect that should be audible to all even in the tunnel. Perhaps they forget, or were already overcome by the gasses.

Very informative, not just about the accident, but the wartime chaos in Italy at the time. I don't think enough attention has been given to the fact that both a World and civil war were taking place simultaneously in Italy. Small wonder that so many emigrated to North America after 1945.

They took his keys because they were so alarmed by how drunk he was, and gave them back 🤦🏻‍♂️ Ford refusing to retrofit the busses is horrific, that's just like saying "We don't care" and a huge slap in the fave for the victims.

I remember this very well. Setting up at the auction just few miles away denials the Famers market. Had to leave my car when the evacuation time came. There was nothing but fields around, and the little town antelope. It was a huge deal, I will tell you. The concussion waves were intense. I can't imagine how it must have been like for those closest. From that experience, I thought a lot about WW2 victims having 500 pound bombs falling on them in their cities.

I was born and raised in Roseville, and was living there when the bombs exploded. The explosions were a little over a mile from where I lived. My Dad had worked for the Southern Pacific since he had come home from WWll. I was awakened when the first bomb went off. There was an AFB not too far away; McClellan AFB, and I immediately thought that a plane had crashed. When the next bomb blew I knew it was something else. I ran through the house opening all the windows so that any subsequent blasts would pass through, hoping it would be enough to keep the windows intact. As the following blasts came the Roseville P. D. began to evacuate the area. We were related to the then mayor, George Buljan, and we went to stay with his family. We were able to keep up to date on the situation. We were finally let back to our homes the next day. As soon as I could I drove through the town of Antelope. It was completely obliterated. What really amazed me was how the nearby grove of oak trees had changed. I'd watched the trees as I grew up and knew how they looked. Typical, healthy, thick oak trees. Now, after the explosions, the huge limbs on the trees had been twisted and turned in all sorts of strange ways. It was a heck of a weekend.

No he didn’t grab her hair. He went straight for her arm and knew what he was doing. I can’t know for sure but I believe he felt frustrated with her and more importantly, betrayed. It was the end of the show and she had him to a trick where he swims and shows his flipper. An easy trick but Dawn used the whistle to call him back, he did not hear the whistle and made a whole circle with his flipper in the air, which he thought was a good job. But the trainers, and this is stupid, they have negative reinforcement as well. So, because he did not hear the whistle, Dawn showed him the sign that meant “you screwed the pooch” obviously being an extremely intelligent and social creature he felt betrayed by this because he believed he did the trick perfectly and disagreed with dawns assessment but could not communicate it. After that he was already angry at being told he did poorly, Dawn began to search the bucket for fish. The orca know that towards the end of the show there are less fish and when the trainers have to scrounge around there’s almost nothing left. Dawn found two small fish for a 3 ton whale. After that Dawn, not sensing that anything was wrong with her best friend went to lay down for some one on one time with the whale. If she had laid down further away perhaps he wouldn’t have been able to grab her like that but this was absolutely normal and she had no idea what he was thinking. Tillikum had murder on his mind, maybe. Being that they are smarter than great apes I would assume that he knew that being aggressive with her would hurt her, I just don’t know if he knew how badly. I don’t know if he meant to kill her or just show her that she pissed him off and he didn’t like it. The fact that he held on to her for 45 minutes after she was dead tells me that he didn’t truly understand the concept of death. Was he trying to get her to wake up and play with him? What was he doing with her body for 45 minutes? Either way, watching the video of the end of the show until the moment he went after Dawn it’s clear that he felt not only short changed with the fish, I mean he works for that damn fish, but the fact t that he thought he did such a good job and she told him off actually hurt his feelings and made him so angry? The thing is though, I’d have to watch again but I believe that if he was that angry at the time he could have leapt up on to the platform and grabbed her right there why wait? Did something occur the time between them separating at the main pool and meeting again at the smaller pool? Only Tillikun would ever know why he did what he did. I wonder if he realized that he killed her, if he felt remorse or just sheer anger or frustration? He was punished by being put in a tiny enclosure where he could barely move for a year. And then he died from a lung infection. The saddest part is you could see how much Dawn loved that whale as she laid down to greet him for their one on one time. As incredible as they may be and as much as people want to see them, as much as the greedy want to profit of them, in the end it’s the friendship between the trainer and the whale that makes it all happen. Two different species, both extremely intelligent but limited in how much they can actually communicate. Either way, as much as I would love to be friends with a 30 foot beast that could bite me in half, the trainers, especially in China, should not work with the whales. Do not let their suffering continue. They belong in the ocean not in a Chinese pool. Worst of all it will bring nothing but money for the greedy owners and tragedy for the trainers and the whales. And if you thought Seaworld pools were bad, just wait till you see these Chinese pools. They are not fit for dolphins let alone orca!
