Well I learned a lot but I still don't know the difference between b4 and b4 in regards to my vehicle.

I have a 1996 k2500 with a 5.7 and bone stock other than swapping in a disk brake axle with an E locker out of a Hummer H2. I want to put some good shocks on this truck and have loved the 5160s and 7100s i have on a few other vehicles. I was recommended by your team to put 25-187878s on the front. However I never got a rear recommendation and I really want to get them ordered! The truck is mostly driven without any load and sees 50/50 on vs off road. The off-roading is rarely maintained limestone trails and rutted up sugar sand roads down here in Florida.

But maybe the mounting points on the H2 axle are different? And if you'd like to match that front 5165 in the back you'd need to know extended and collapsed lengths to find the correct 5165. Did you change the rear shocks when you mounted the new rearend?
@dancharles3022
@dancharles3022 4 күн бұрын
Hey August thanks for the reply! Yep I definitely want to match the fronts. Factory shocks bolt right in, I had to hack all link bracket junk off the H2 axle and burned in a leaf swap kit from Barnes. I made the width of the lower shock bracket same as factory and it’s in about the exact same location +- .5”. Extended is 24.5” Collapsed is 14.25” Static 19”

I watched the entire video but maybe I missed something, the length of travel and compression wasn't increased much but by maybe a inch extension vs OEM but also resudeced compression by 0.5? the piston diameter was increased to compensate for this to "act" like a longer shock? just was trying to figure it out or is that the max travel increase that could be made in the physical constrainits of engineering a sock that would provide 1.5" lift with the components bilstein uses? and the subframe spacers are optional depending on tire size? that part I was actually a bit confused on. I know 2" lifts use a 1" subframe kit to lessen extreme angles on the driveline and so your CVS don't blow out etc but at what point of discretion are they used in the Bilstein kit?

If I am not mistaken, the term Overland goes back to the horse & buggy era. Before grayhound busses & airplanes, people would travel in a horse drawn carriage (of many types) long distances, many times overnight to get to their destination. Think back to the all those western movies and/or cartoons where a stage coach gets robbed at gunpoint. Those stage coaches were traveling/overlanding multiple days to deliver their customers and goods to their destination. Also of note, there's a really old suburb of Kansas City, called Overland Park. I suspect it got its name by being a popular stop on an old overland route.

B4 is more comfortable as B6 / B8 - correct ?
@bilsteinUS
@bilsteinUS Ай бұрын
Is comfort is what you’re after then the B4 is probably the better choice for you.
@vollcare4076

@@bilsteinUS improved comfort and sport cannot be achieved both (by aftermarket damper) ? I heared people say monotube damper are superior, but I experienced that monotube damper was more harsh than twintube (on small bumps and at low speed)
@bilsteinUS
@bilsteinUS Ай бұрын
Typically you are either after comfort or performance and as you lean further to one side of that equation, you sacrifice a little bit on the other side. A lot of times, the soft “comfort” that people feel is due to the lack of damping controlling the vehicle keeping it to the road, hence why there is increased body roll and decreased cornering performance. On the other side, increased performance (for example, a high end coilover setup for a track oriented vehicle) will be much more “firm” feeling as the increased performance and damping ability is keeping the wheels glued to the ground without introducing any body roll or sacrificing vehicle dynamics. In our lineup, the B4 will be the most comfortable if that is what you are after. The monotube damper will offer better damping performance over a comparable twin tube shock. But on the other hand, a twin tube will offer more “comfort” and a softer ride feel.

Awesome content. There is a ton of technical information I have only been able to find on this video. I have B6's on our crosstrek and just purchased these terrasports for our outback. The terrasports are on another level of performance over the B6's.

In practice by adding something like a 5160 shock to a vehicle that had linear tuned shocks from the factory you may actually be increasing spring rate and in a round about way increasing GVW.

My taco is pretty heavy with steel bumpers, full steel skids, winch and sliders. Would the spring that comes with the 8112 dsa+ be too soft for my application or should i be considering a heavier spring? I currently have 6112 with a #700 spring, pretty stiff but i dont mind it since it helps with lift
@bilsteinUS
@bilsteinUS 2 ай бұрын
Hi Spencer, we do offer a 650 lb spring that works with either the 6112 or 8112, we also have a 700 lb spring specifically for the 8112. Those part numbers are 53-291387 and 53-332837 or you can also find them by heading to our online catalog at cart.bilsteinus.com and entering your vehicle info.

Ive got the Terasports on my 2017 Crosstrek. Ive got 15" rims on the way, and getting some 215/75r15 K02's (probably) to go with them with a full size spare. I've done some multi-hour FSR trips and I really want my build to be bomb proof incase of emergencies. Excited to see how the wheels look and feel with the extra lift, love the suspension so far. Great Ep!
