Lovely crafting space indeed! Very soothing watching the fibre soflty blow in the wind! I was planning to join tour the fleece this year, but am sick in bed for the last couple of days, so will have to wait a bit. I am using the time to decide what to spin and it will be my first three ply, I think. I also love a crochet project once and a while, l like to make baskets to keep knitting and spinning projects. Cheers to more lovely outdoors crafting days!

Watching this while we go through the hurricane in Texas. Where I am it's not terrible compared to others I've been through. But I'm spinning with my big window shades open and watching the wind blow the rain and the trees around. Lol it's cozy yet exciting if there isn't a threat of tornado or flooding so far we've been good.

We eat sauerkraut with potato pasta; it’s a staple in the summer. So happy that your little is learning about the handcrafts. Enjoying a laid back tour de fleece this year too with taking each week to wash and prep smaller fleeces to be spun during the women race.

Lovely visit. I enjoyed the fibers chat and other news. Envious that you were outside. It is 104* at 4 o’clock here in California. I went to pick up yarn to prep for our guild’s dye day next week. We are choosing a hat from Knitting the National Parks and figuring how to make all the colors. It will be the first project since Christmas. I think I have a little mojo to make some small projects. A quick story about my 3 y.o. granddaughter. On a recent visit her mom explained that they would have to in a little while (we don’t rush). Yaya exclaims lay yarn!” She grabs my hand to go in the craft room to get a small ball of yarn from the leftover basket. She loves to roll it and let it un wind all over the house. Take care of you and yours till the next time.

It's so wonderful to see you again. I started watching you while you were in Australia, ut was just before Janes joined you. I am definitely not a monogamous knitter anymore. I currently have a Vertices Unite, a Tundra sweater, a Habitation Throw on my needles. I have just finished a pair of socks too. My youngest kiddo is off to University this year. They have only just come back home after 6 months in New Zealand. I really want to go now but I am a wheelchair user and don't know how accessible it would be. Still going to go though. My eldest daughter is working one day a week but, hoping to find a job soon. My husband is working full-time and doing semi pro archery. I want to make all of the things but need more time! I can't believe that your little girl is already 2. I know people used to say this to me but it's true, enjoy that time as it goes in the blink of an eye! Oh I forgot, I am trying to learn how to spin too. 😁

Oh Grace!!! It is so lovely to see you and hear what you have been up to!! I can't believe your baby is already 2!!! Time flies!! (My babies are 15 and 21 as of tomorrow! WHAT?!?!) Leif use to LOVE my spinning wheel. I think I got it when he was 4 and he use to sit down at the wheel and pump the peddle as fast and he could and make motorcycle noises. It was hysterical and devastating at the same time (especially when I had painstakingly spun yarn on there)! Oh, I believe that stitch that you like is called the Star Stitch. I knit Kaia and myself the Wilde jacket years ago and that stitch was on the hem and hood. I love the way it looks!

Totally true. But Anglophones(especially in the US) are rarely interested in learning about foreign languages and cultures. I therefore don't have high expectations for them. In a like manner, Americans butcher most Russian words. If I tried to correct every bad pronunciation of Russian, Gaelige, German, etc, I hear, I would go mad. 😮
@GraceTheBabbler
@GraceTheBabbler 24 күн бұрын
This word specifically was driving me mad because within the knitting community it’s used quite a lot. But you’re so right. There’s a fear of trying in a lot of anglophones, fear of getting it wrong so they don’t even try to put an accent on for fear of sounding silly or disrespectful.

Your history is entirely wrong. Google "Gandhi Charkha Movement". Long story short: Gandhi promoted fabric production as a means of Indian self-sufficiency and self-rule, so much so that it was put in their flag (hardly hiding it from the British). A "charkha" was any size spinning wheel, large or small. Gandhi held a contest to develope a highly portable one so that every Indian could carry one and, whenever they had spare time, could spin. The winning design is what we now call book charkha--or just charkha. He took one to prison with him to make his own clothes.
