Foveated encoding and modern codecs won't solve the issue of video encodes being 4:2:0 chroma subsampled, it will look image quality wise worse than native video signal.

The bettery life is the issue. 4 hours might be too short for some VRChat users tbh.

In my experience, The Vive Cosmos isnt that bad. I haven't had many problems with it its been quite reliable. The software is pretty bad though, but the tracking is much better than it seems to have started out as. Sure there have been plenty of moments where the IO tracking freaks out or the headset just becomes completely disorientated but i do this in a room with an entire wall basically being one big mirror, and it still somehow works 90% of the time. But it does have some flaws, the biggest being the software and the lenses but considering i live in a country where pretty all my options are on this list. Im quite happy with it.

Honestly I'd love to know what the best headset is. Except I live in Australia meaning that only 3 options are actually available to me without importing things. Vive, Meta/Oculus or HP Reverb headsets. It ended up being a decision between a Vive Cosmos or a Meta Quest 2. I almost got the quest 2 but then meta forced everyone to have Facebook accounts, upped the price by 300 dollars (from 450 to 750) which when combined with the link cable ended up costing nearly 150 dollars more than the Cosmos and then I started hearing about people having their headsets turned into paperweights. Safe to say I didn't end up getting a quest. So I got the cosmos instead, and to be honest I'm pretty happy. Hell the cable has turned out to be pretty study. Which is something that cannot be said about the Reverb G2 when I did my research on it. That cable breaks like wet paper. I just wish more options were available to smaller markets

just checked ebay - even in Australia 2nd hand quest pros are pretty cheap... sold my quest 2 when i was planning on moving internationally, once again getting the itch to sit in a dingy corner in vr chat for hours on end awkwardly staring people down. I think the quest pro will be my next thing.

Yea, my HP Reverb that I got back in 21 just sits there and is not used. I look at it and just beah. I want to play beatsaber. But the darn thing bumps my head position weirdly. There are other frustrations with it too. Do not get me wrong, the image look wonderful. However I would have rather wanted to go back to my Oculus Rift if it worked. And did not have to have any connection to meta naturally. I am even considering getting another computer to use as my main computer, and run Linus rather than windows, because I do not like the thought of being spied on. Having my information, regardless of how uninteresting or whatever it is, collected. I do not like that. I do not like the serious potential for that. I do not really like the idea that a company can shut down my vr headset for that matter. So yea, the meta headsets, even if they are amazing. That I do not have any trust I will not be effectively spied on, is a deal breaker for me. I would get the Valve Index. But I can not buy that. Its also a bit old so its probably not really up to things these days I would hope. I am just not sure what serious alternatives I have. The Bigscreen one seem interesting. However I would need to get base stations and controllers at least. But not from Valve I guess, because they do not want to sell em to me.

Finally started looking into VR again. Have a rift s in my closet collecting dust because it black screened and made static noises one day and just never worked again. No matter what I tried. From an everyday VR user to being in a headset maybe 5 times in the last couples years. I miss playing

Noo don’t do this to me. lol I had a quest pro briefly, and set my avatar up for face tracking, but in the end I didn’t keep the headset because I found it uncomfortable and I preferred quest 3 (with index controllers and fbt), but now I’m really missing the quest pro face tracking again

We already hit the apex in vr with the quest 2. Why? The quest pro is an over priced quest 2 we didn't need or want. The quest 3 is a dumbed down version of that already dumb ass quest pro, and the quest 3s is a step down from there. Sounds to me like vr is crashing and burning as we speak....

My vive pro 2 headset is currently being dumb in a weird way. It works and everything but it gets like 40fps when it used to get 120 easily. I also can no longer open any vive software like the console to change settings.
