How do you get the fibers to be in a ribbon? Do you have to manually glue them like that or is it a certain type of fiber?

When you marked the 5ft at the beginning and of the video, did you do that because of the size of closure you were working in or because it was a 48 loose tube?
@fibersplicegod
@fibersplicegod 24 күн бұрын
Great question I did it because for any of the commscope foscs when it comes to loose tube cable I only open 5ft because that’s all that is needed to get to tray with one loop in the tray for slack to allow for a splice. If it’s ribbon cable and has to run through the basket then I open up 8ft. Thanks for watching and subscribing I really appreciate it

I'm a mass splicer. LT adds a step to splicing. Ribbon routing has tricks to it. You learn the more you use it. The new spider web rolls like LT fiber and isn't as much of a pain in the a#$. Harder to read the ribbons IMHO.

I love splicing ribbon. Only hard part is splitting a ribbon that has live circuit in it. Not fun. We usually deal with 288 to 864 strand cables. We are usually not doing straight splices either. It’s usually an 864 trunk going to 2 or 3 144-288’s and sometimes the 864 is continuing down the road. I can’t imagine splicing a loose tube 144 on a regular basis. Making ribbons isn’t terribly difficult, but it certainly isn’t as fast as splicing 2 ribbons together.
@VGDomination
@VGDomination 22 күн бұрын
@@brians8664 I can do 144 butt splices in 5 hours so it’s not too bad in loose form. Where I’m working it’s a 96 ribbon and we’re using splitters and not even half the fibers in the 96 so it’s just them cheaping out. Not to mention we’re putting slack ribbon in trays not made for it. Just a total cheap out that costs the contractors time and money. No reason for ribbon on a job using less than half of all the fibers in that 96 count. It’s not even commscope ribbon, it’s the nova bullshit.

Great question🙌 I opened all tubes on the 48f because it was the feed cable for this splice location and the customer wants all feed cables opened and trayed so that the next time a tech is in that fosc it will be ready for easy access. Thanks for watching and subscribing I really appreciate it

That Tii box is hot garbage. You also wrapped the feed in the wrong direction. No matter what you do in those Tii boxes, the feed always ends up at an awkward angle. There’s also no slack storage for the distribution cables. The Tii also doesn’t give you the option to do splice on pigtail for the distribution side. The Commscope BUDI series is so much better.
