For anyone thinking of running in 2024, they've announced some big changes for this year: They're moving the start back up to the Olympic start (up near Crows Nest) so it'll be a much wider start line and downhill for the first couple of km; they're starting at 6am in case we get a repeat of last year's weather; and they've replaced a lot of the loop-backs in Centenial park with a leg down to Kingsford.

Yes thanks for sharing this info, I heard about this recently also.. should be much better overall especially for those out there for 4 or more hrs! Not sure if I will come back for a while.. I do prefer a flater course but that's because I am very PB driven at this point in time, thanks again for sharing with everyone

No idea what the thinking was to have marathon starting latest at 8am even 8:30am+ for some runners, was frustrating at the organisation. Other than that, no excuses, was such a tough day and ended up really rewarding.

u lost me when u got on that road with the cars.. the whole beauty of running disappears in a matter of seconds. not to mention the air quality. i get it that it was hot, but then you need to do your runs early in the morning.
@topofthemountainfitness72453 ай бұрын
Yeah I hear you.. its not the most scenic but I'll take the shade, it is a little bit cooler early but on the Gold coast here it's already about 26°c at 5am these days!

That's my turf, I run up and down that part all the time. What was the Salomon hand soft flask like? Thinking of getting one for the GC50.
@topofthemountainfitness72453 ай бұрын
Such a great place to train hey, say hi if you recognise me The soft flask is really good, as you drink and it compresses from the suction it holds itself onto your hand, found myself using it for almost every run now
@njs_gc3 ай бұрын
@@topofthemountainfitness7245 Yep I'll definitely say hi. I think I might get one of those flasks, thanks for the feed back. If you want to escape the heat the run from Kingscliff to Cabarita along the bike path is shaded in the morning.👍

I'm training for Tokyo Marathon 2024 and have the same target like yours: 255. I'm not a coach but it's possible that your average heart rate, 170, is pretty high when I compare yours with men aged at 40-45 (sorry it's my wild guess of your age). Another comment is about your pacing strategy. Your target is 2:55 so the average page is 4:08/km, but you keep your pace stably at around 4:00/km after 3rd km. It seems to be very aggressive. Again I'm not a coach but I'm happy to watch your training prep series as a motivation to myself. My race will be 3/3/2024 and wish you can hit your target in a better race soon

I'm sorry about the hamstring. You did well, though. I ran the full marathon that morning. I was aiming for sub 4 hours, but due to the heat, my time was 4:47:14. I've subscribed to your KZfaq channel. I love your videos. Keep doing what you're doing.

Thanks for that I'm glad you are enjoying my content and I appreciate you subscribing. Thanks Zac, it was a solid run in the conditions, definitely felt like marathon effort speed out there.. yes ankle is fine, it's the soleus tendon area that was feeling a bit dodgy but knew it would be ok if I stopped, more a question of how it would be if I continued until the end 👍 I have a heap of goals before the end of the year so need to keep running 😀 Thanks again for sharing your wisdom 👍

Love the videos Jo (just found you via your Sydney 23 video and have watched this and your sub-1:20 half vids just now). You've clearly got the speed! Hopefully the hammy and ITB issues will resolve soon. I had a similar hamstring thing - cramping up late in the race and derailing things - but it finally resolved through a heap more mileage and starting to include strides as well as hill reps and sprints in the schedule. What kind of camera are you using for the race footage too? And how are you carrying it? And what's your next race? Canberra next April (my local) is fast, reasonably flat and definitely a whole lot cooler than the other weekend in Sydney if you were looking for an option for a faster time around then!
@topofthemountainfitness72458 ай бұрын
Thanks Chris, yes I think more mileage, strength training and hills will all help a lot.. I carry a gopro 10 in Mt hand when recording and put it in the front of my flipbelt when I finish recording.. I will be doing a solo Marathon effort later this week on the flat paths on the beach here, and probably my next marathon race will be Gold Coast 2024.. maybe the GC50 here in December this year depending on how my solo effort goes.. all the best in your training and racing 👍
