Immagine invisible soldiers (you could look them through thermal, but they are less precise). Imagine an unending army of skeletons that slowly eats your ammo. Imagine creating water in the control comand of those helicopters. The anime portrays the modern army winning because the creator wanted them to win. But you can easily imagine how a fantasy army could beat a modern army.
