I gotta say there are a few that bark the loudest. Unfortunately those few that do bark, out weigh the dozens with great feed back and happy. That being said, having 117 abused, raced hours on my 24 xcw bought middle of 23 has been phenomenal. But my experience gets over rode by the few with negative thoughts and a platform of viewers. And then bad information is disseminating down worse than the telephone game.

Cool video ya got 191 exhaust 130 tranfurs with 30.5 of bld @ 23% bigger the wheel the more accurate your port timings. Simple video good job. If your cyl was a 191 ehust and 128 tranfurs your bld% would be @ 24% just sayin

On the power stroke in a 2-stroke, the force is against the rear cylinder wall. On case-reed cylinders there is much piston support, on cylinder-reed or piston port cylinders it get to be much less. In the cylinders I machine, the intake side is often worn much more, right where the ring gaps are too. The exhaust port side is where piston support is on the compression stroke - far less rod force than the power stroke. Snowmobiles with engine rotation reverse "gear" have a very low rev limiter in "reverse" because the power stroke force is transferred to the exhaust side during this mode. Maybe a correction video is a good idea.

Always like the content, testing, testing ,testing, that is how you gain true knowledge on what works and what doesn't. Sorry to hear about the family farm, my parents had a farm in the lower east corner of South Dakota next to Iowa. They moved from there in the late 50's after a tornado dropped the neighboring farms barn in their field.

Love the core content, but not much for the intro non-bike related details. Lower compression = higher top end? Sounds right since higher compression gives more bottom end.

These KTM/Husky/Gas Gas 250 and 300 two strokes have 125 mm long connecting rod and 72 mm stroke so rod/stroke ratio is 1.736:1. If the motor is pushed for high rpm for a long period of time it definitely will load cylinder walls. I measured my Husky TC250 2018 exhaust port height and it’s just half of the stroke 36 mm height. So if piston top is just level with the cylinder top in TDC then the exhaust duration will be 180 degrees (half of the full rotation 360 degrees).
@jannep6772

This 180 degrees exhaust port duration when the exhaust power valve is in open position. I don’t remember how much less duration it had when it was closed.

My tbi experience… Bike is a 2023 300xc, VBKXCP233PM322***, bought last November(2023), didnt start riding until march of 2024. All stock. At 25hr the bike started to bog randomly(approximately may 3). Bog just happens, usually very subtle, usually after at least 1/2 hour of riding. I ride on a small Mx track with several jumps, 70’ being the biggest. I ride moderately on track but aggressively on straight aways. Bike never dies, just wont accept throttle, usually only for a few seconds but has happened a couple of times where I could stop and try to rev it but it won’t accept throttle, just hear throttle body open. Then it’s fine for a bit. It doesn’t act like it’s fouling out and has never fouled a plug. Does not seem like a short, seems like a fuel delivery issue. I do not ride in mud or pressure wash, and when I do wash it it’s with a shower setting on hose with a rag and bucket of soap. Issue started at 25 hr, now has 44hr, in that time i have done these things, the list is not exactly in the order i did them… -Replaced inline fuel filter multiple times -Replaced fuel pump pick up filter($60) -Tested old fuel pump(48psi) and replaced with new fuel pump, with part number ending in 200(supposedly updated)($275) -stripped down and checked wire harness, also with bike running trying to move wires to find short. -ended up cutting open wire harness and checking for shorts on main trunk. Looked beautiful in there. -pulled all connections looking for issues -changed spark plug 3 times, plugs always looked good, never fouled one, currently tried a 7 range plug.($25) -had dealer update software and look for codes, there were none($130) -did top end(used vortex oem piston)and pulled and cleaned power valve at 37 hr per ktm customer service advice($350) -Set power valve to 48mm(z dimension) -Adjusted tps to .400 volts, reset tps with wake up connector and 3 throttle twists -recalibrated power valve on both maps multiple time -changed crank case sensor twice, even used sealant on last one to be sure wasn’t leaking($120) -current compression is 208 psi, was 196 before top end at 37hr -current deck height is between 0.00 and .008, squish is like 2.12 -tried different fuels, one was an ethanol free 93 octane -unplugged battery(no ideal why) -Bike wrecked me, took to dealer(6/27/24) and this time it had 2 stored codes- P012211 throttle grip position sensor A short to ground p140312 exhaust valve short to battery… Some are saying codes could be from unhooking stuff during top end. Which would make sense since it been doing this for 20 hours and at 15hr there were no codes. I’ve spent over $1000 in parts and dealer service and many hours trying to find this issue. Curremtly I’m down with 2 broken ribs and a lacerated spleen because the bike bogged on a small jump 4 days ago(6/23/24) after another failed attempt to correct it. Ktm and the ktm dealer said this will have to be replicated when it’s hooked up or they cant find the issue. That is not something that a dealer is set up to do. I cant sell this bike because it’s dangerous and has no solution in sight. Dealer is hesitant on me proceeding with them repairing because digging into will be expensive, and a good chance problem will not be cured. I have attempted many repairs and Guinea pigged this bike until it ultimately injured me. I had another dealer tell me that after all the diagnostics I’ve done there really isn’t much they can do. I do understand my current dealers hesitation as a failed repair puts me in danger. I need help with this situation.

If you're measuring anything that matters your tools should be calibrated. The calibration facility should maintain proper testing and accuracy ratios and their testing and calibration equipment must be traceable to NIST ( National Institute of Standards Technology).

I bought the 1st new 23 250xc at my dealer. It ran boggy down low and left me stranded on the very first ride miles from the truck. I replaced the spark plug with a new one. And replace the pre mix fuel from a known good source. Still ran horrible, took it back to the dealer after just a couple of days. KTM charged me a lot of money to clear a fuel pump code because I accidentally bumped the starter button with the tank off when changing the plug. They told me they went ahead and updated the ecu it free of charge. But I was charged to clear the code.. The update did not help much with the poor fueling down low, the bike is not trailable at all. I put it in my basement and haven't touched it since. Brand new KTM that I have no interest in and haven't touched in over a year. I almost forgot, the dealer or the manufacturer somehow forced the skid plate into position. So that when you remove the bolts for maintenance or cleaning, you can not realign the holes because the plastic skid plate was not molded to the proper dimensions in the first place.

That second picture of the bore is just the first one with a hone passed through so of course it looks better. Rings are trying to scuff in the bore due to oil breaking down. A richer mixture of oil will prevent this too, so it may be a result of running oil to lean for use. If you run oil too lean for product, anything will show ring seizures.

Another great informational vid! We had issues with ring seat and blow by 125 and 250 tbi. Have always ran R-50 as we are outlaw kart racing hard on our motors. We found experimenting mainly the 125 (Dumonde tech storage break in oil) after re-ringing/breakin definitely helped the rings seat better, faster and 95% of the evidence of piston ring blowby that drove us crazy had stopped. Now this process has become another part of our religous routine everytime we re-ring and break in. Could be wrong but I believe that if it can be said, the R-50 might be too good of oil inhibiting a good seating and seal of our piston rings. Once seated we get right back to the good ole trusty R-50. Take care!

I love and appreciate your presentation style and demeanor. I like honesty, integrity and someone who is not afraid to act liike an adult. Torque wrenches no matter the price or brand can vary a little, a lot and even the same wrench can vary drastically every time it is pulled. I used to have torque wrenches re-certified for their calibration every 6 month at a job I worked at because it was a mandatory requirement (nuclear motor designing and building). I have seen some that needed to be sent back to the supplier or store for exchange as they were off from brand new.

Chasing data with off the shelf equipment can be frustrating, we run out and buy new testing equipment and expect it to be correct. I find myself doing the same thing, even though I had worked for a company in the past that required the use of certified pressure gauges for all testing for consistent readings. Watching your videos has me back to what I was taught when testing, never work without a leak detector or soapy water when testing and trouble shooting. Thanks for the reminder to never assume your equipment is leak free without always checking connections or even for internal gauge leaks.
